    I've had the blue Toughbox for about a year and a half. I wanted a tougher radio when working around the house, wanted to use rechargeable batteries, and like Sangean so went with it. I'll say that, while it can get somewhat loud, the sound is just okay and isn't the clearest. It could really benefit from a tone adjustment. FM reception is just okay. I wish Sangean sold antennas of different length for better reception.

      It has an sma connection so theoretically you could put a diamond or comet on it.

    I bought one. I sent it back the same day it arrived because it would not pick up many of the stations in my area (New Orleans). If you get one, don't bother to call the Sangrean Customer Service line. They're of little or no help. What a shame. They're the only radios I can find with push button tuning like a car radio.

    I just clicked the link in your description and ordered one from Amazon for $60.65, thanks man, I hope you get credit for that!

      Thank you Vince! I should get credit, will let you know. They tell me what sells, but only after it ships.

    That would be perfect for my living if it had wider band audio on the AM.

      Thank you! it was a fun video to make. The radio is a real winner at that $50 price range.

    "I didn't expect this radio to be so big" Well it is a job site radio.... men driving big tough trucks need big tough radios

    The AM reception seemed quite good this may have one of the Sangean large ferrite antennas inside.

    • @todderbert
      @todderbert  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wondering on the length of the ferrite bar, I don't want to take apart the radio this time so I'm going to estimate the length to be close to the length of the radio compartment..about 3-4" depending on orientation.

    I can tell your in the northern suburbs of Chicago. You get will rock 95.1 and power 92 is kinda fuzzy from Hammond. I also heard Milwaukee FM stations which is probably about 50 miles away from you. This radio does very well with the provided antenna but I wish FM stations were allowed 1000kw. Also I tried putting on a longer antenna because FM works best with a 33" antenna. AM reception is good with the provided antenna, FM can do better with a screw in 33" vehicle antenna to optimize reception. Also, I'm wondering if you connect a 6V 20Ah battery to the radio will it still output only 2 watts?

    Seems like you would open the battery doors when you are reviewing radios

      Sometimes I do. It has been a recent feature to my reviews. People want to see how the batteries are arranged.

      I was shocked by it...must have a built in NIA...:) The AM was way beyond my expectation of a shop radio.

    How would you compare this to other worksite radios such as Craftsman or Milwaukee? If I wasn't in an apartment complex, I'd choose the loudest one!

    • @todderbert
      @todderbert  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I may have to put some of those on my Amazon wish list and maybe someone will be generous enough to donate one to the channel for a comparison review. This little lunchbox will wake your neighbors.

    Ugh! Sangean has taken sublime to ridiculous with that one. To each their own, I suppose. If it appeals to you, look at some of the Black & Decker and/or DeWalt worksite radios. They'll be right up your alley.

      You have not seen their "FatBox" :) amzn.to/2H3vXSa

      Well played, todderbert. The ugly goes up to 11 on that one. Yikes.
      For the record, I'm not averse to big radios. One of my favourites is my Grundig Satellit 800 Millennium. It's massive although it backs it up by being one of the best radios I own. These 'work' radios though, they seem to have crossed over from tough looking to garish (IMO, of course.)

      It's no lightweight :) It's also dominates the radio collection a bit.

    I like your review but I don't like that radio. 100 bucks doesn't even get you a radio with channel scan. Thanks for convincing me not to buy this
