I AM NOT A HAIRSTYLIST! YOU MAY NOT AGREE WITH ME AND THAT IS OKAY. THIS IS MY HEAD AND MY LIFE!
PLEASE BE RESPECTFUL IN THE COMMENTS. I UNDERSTAND THAT SOME OF YOU WILL SEND ME PRODUCT RECOMMENDATIONS, WHICH I DO APPRECIATE, BUT KNOW I HAVE TRIED IT ALL!! I’M JUST HERE TO SHARE MY STORY.
Today’s video is probably one of the most open and transparent videos I have ever made. I wanted to speak to you all about my battle with traction alopecia, which means I don’t have edges.
Recently, I went viral on TikTok and I wanted to provide you guys with the backstory and an in depth tutorial of how I would do a swoop ponytail. This ponytail lasts about 3 days. You can touch it up, but make sure you wrap it at night and get a good oil sheen to avoid flaking! Also, to remove the edges, just wash it out (don't pull).
I am not the originator of this hack, I just added my own spin to videos I have already seen. Please check out the women below, because they inspired me to try this edges hack on myself:

I am suffering from Alopecia on my edges as well. When I listen to your story I said OMG this is me this is the same thing I had to deal with growing up as a child and in high school also right now in my adult life before you even started the tutorial I automatically subscribe to your channel because of your story alone touched me in so many ways and after watching the tutorial thank you so much for giving me the confidence to be able to wear hair styles that I thought my self cannot achieve because of my edges.

A lot of people are ignorant to the fact that sometimes people have weak edges or no edges just naturally ,and it's not due to abuse or a wigs or braids. So I'm glad you shared. I don't have this problem but I know people that do and it can get worse as you get older. I do have times where spots and my temples go bald in a circular pattern due to hormones. I can nurture them back but it means no relaxers anymore. I think it's amazing that you shared this and you're just gonna get blessed for it. So thanks for having the courage to leave everything in place and move forward in power. Will's slap has had a positive side in educating on alopecia.

    • @xr2863

Traction alopecia is from abuse. The majority of the time some type of habitual and consistent abuse of the hair and scalp is the reason.

When I saw your video on TikTok I saw myself. Alopecia and baldness runs in my family so I know exactly how you felt growing up with no edges because I experienced the same trauma. And because of that trauma I would constantly wear head wraps, hats and scarfs. Not really into wigs and weaves but after watch this tutorial I will definitely be trying this. Thank you so much for sharing 🤗.

I'm 63 and had thinning edges most of my adult life. It was because of what I actually did to my hair over the years: coloring, perming, different processes. I became very self-conscious about my edges and at one point couldn't disguise the thinning any longer. The last process of trying to get a texturizer damaged ALL of my hair! When I left the salon I just couldn't believe how awful I looked! My only option was to go to the barbershop (in Okinawa where not much English was spoken) and describe to the lady what I wanted. I had her cut off all my hair! Afterwards, I was so ashamed! People were staring at me. I was terrified to let the officer's wives see my hair at the functions I was expected to attend. Long story short, there were more people that LOVED my hair than not! I couldn't get over it! I've had MANY compliments from MEN!! I was floored at the number of women that stopped me to tell me their hair stories and to say they wish they had the courage to cut their hair off! I never grew my hair back. As a matter of fact, during this pandemic, I stopped going to the barbershop. I just bought clippers and cut my own hair! I find that I look younger and more put together without hair. So, I applaud you for telling your hair story! I know what it took for you to tell it. You're beautiful! Blessings to you!

I suffer from alopecia acreta in the center of my scalp along with hair thinning. I have always struggled with going to braiding shops or how to conceal my thinning hair. TH-cam has taught to embrace my texture, how to treat & care for my hair. Now I celebrate the hair that I do have. This video almost brought me to tears because now I know that I am not alone & we are still beautiful. You are so beautiful & deserve all the positivity. Ty

TY TY TY! My daughter sent your video to me. I am a 58 year old woman that has been suffering with hair loss. I don’t know if it’s alopecia because I’ve yet to get diagnosed. I am so discouraged and depressed..not only do I not have edges my crown..the top of my head I have SEVERE hair loss..you can see the shape of my head because what hair is there is so THIN that I can’t even wear it back or over let alone to cover any “pieces” so I have elected to wear wigs. My question is..do you think this technique would work to cover all over? I am SO tired of wigs and have not worn MY hair in over 5 years. Please let me know and TY again

I have never really paid attention to other people's edges. I have always known that we all have different hairlines, but I haven't connected the struggle that some people face with that particular part of the face/head. This video here has been very eye-opening as well as encouraging to others who have been suffering in silence. With or without edges, you are indeed beautiful. I hope that you'll continue to be an encouragement. ❤

This video is more than "hair care"! Know that. You will be sought after by a variety of people from many walks of life informing them that the average person can too, be gorgeous to their likings and you're a walking advertising tool for the company's products that you're using. Something you thought was bad has uplifted the lives of so many women. Stay on the path that you're on because you have a purpose and this is just the beginning!! I wish you the best at your journey! Continue being an inspiration to so many of us.

I decided to comment to let you know that you are not alone girlfriend! I've had traction alopecia for years and I had no other solution but to slap a wig on my head everyday. I can never wear the braid styles, the ponytails, the sew-ins, the crotchet locs or anything all the other girls wear and that has dampered my self esteem so much. You have to walk around everyday subconsciously knowing that there's a part of you that you have to hide and that's not easy to cope with.
Worst off i've been married for 4 years and im still embarrassed to let my husband see my hair. I always keep a wig on or a hair bonnet on when he's around. So i must definitely say, kudos to changing the game with this one!

I'm 32 and started losing my hair about 2 years ago.. it will not stop falling out and I'm starting to get very thin on the sides. My doctor will not help me figure out what's going on. It hurts so much and is embarrassing so I understand what you're going thru. But I have to tell you that you're absolutely beautiful!!! With or without edges! And please ignore the people that are mean to you, they obviously have something going on in their life that they have to take out on someone. Or they have to put down others to feel better about themselves. It's very sad, but you seem like an AMAZING beautiful woman helping others! There is absolutely nothing wrong with you!
