Childish Gambino/Donald Glover is really one of the most talented celebrities there is. The guy was already a succesful actor and comedian. Then he became an extremely succesful rapper and then he suddenly decided to drop this album right here. Also, the series "Atlanta" which he produced/writes/stars in is one of my favorite series ever

This is Bino's magnum opus imo. This is the culmination of his growing pains as an artist in his early days of mixtapes where he was sure he wanted to be a rapper, but didn't know if he had what it took. To establishing himself with CAMP and solidifying himself; to breaking everyones expectations with Because of The Internet, and then using all of his knowledge and life experiences to create this. Awaken, My Love. A soul-funk (dare I say) masterpiece and simply a completely overlooked piece. You enjoying it as much as you did shows that by itself.

Wordsmithing as well as being able to interweave current events from that time into this dystopian universe he was creating was just godsend. Timeless album for sure.
If you’re a drummer, I highly recommend you to listen to “Random Access Memories” by Daft Punk, which features some of the most crisp and best drumming I’ve honestly heard, not to mention the incredibly clean production and engineering.
Baby Boy feels like it mutated out of Just Like A Baby by Sly Stone, apparently they pulled a sample from it but from what I can tell they probably replayed that drum pattern. There’s a lot of funkadelic on this album too.

@@lusciousluie BTI is a verrrrrrry different album, might be jarring going backwards from this, but to me if you read up on the concept beforehand and then go in understanding it's much more of a hip hop album with experimental elements and a running concept behind it, you'll enjoy it. I really love BTI but the context matters for it.
yo, you should check out glorious miscellanea by ruru, its got a bunch of really interesting rhythm and sound design! another album that i think is really incredible is fever dreams of a floating woman by kiri no mikoto. its mostly instrumental but i think that the flow of the album and the moods and themes it delivers are really really amazing
@@illson2019 Fun fact, D’Angelo actually cut the drums himself on quite a few of the songs on there. Especially where you can hear it’s not too much going on besides a consistent pocket groove in that slurred Dilla style like on The Root and Untitled (How Does It Feel)
i feel like you're either the type of person to have never heard of them or the type that's literally listened to all their music but it'd be really cool to see you react to twenty one pilots! it's kind of a hit or miss (i think lol) but 50% of the band is a drummer and they have a lot to look into lyric-wise so maybe you'd like them? vessel or blurryface is probably a good place to start
