Very nice I got a gig coming up and I’ve been producing Dubstep for 6 years with Ableton and never DJ’d but I got a push 2 and know it pretty well for making all the music but this vid and your vids are great and are gonna help me figure this out on the fast track. Good job.
I'm watching your vids to see if I could learn anything new. Especially with push, I have version 1 of apc40, it's been acting up with ableton and unusable. Tips for anyone new: get mixed in key and scan your songs, it puts BPM & key of track in the songs title(customizable). This way if you import a bunch of songs you would import the same BPM tracks at the same time, before you import changes live master tempo to BPM of group you are importing. This set the warp file to their BPM. What I also do to scan a song set loop in the track to 8 bars, now when you click the loop bracket with mouse you then can make the loop jump on time with up and down arrow keys, I hit up till it goes to end. Then you can look to see if ending is still warped, also doing this you can find a spot to loop at the ending of the track. Leave the loop bracket there, go to the yellow loops button. And shut it off. This way if you run out of time DJing you turn loop on and the music won't stop. Also when DJing try not to mix tracks more then 2 BPM away from each other, this way you can use repitch mode . Repitch is the natural audio, and no artifacts, or sound quality loss with occur.
Yes it,s true, I I also use this method and it works very well.However, with older 70s, 80s, a bit 90s or disco, hip hop, rock, I sometimes use more warp markers to set the perfect tempo.Repitch is a good option for rhythmically and tonally equal tracks.
Dylan Tallchief made a video about Ableton for production (HOW TO ABLETON (Like A Pro)). He mentions a fan-made program to direct everything with short-cuts. When I see all the right-clicking stuff... I wonder if it would enhance your performance drastically if you linked your personally set short-cuts for warpers in Ableton.
Great tutorial! I haven’t watched part 2 yet, and you may cover this, but you can assign an A/B fader between any two tracks that are next to each other(possible any two regardless of location)
this may seem a stupid question but I’m new to DJing. so beat matching is obviously for putting the queued track in time with the current track and this process is repeated throughout the whole DJ set. does this mean that DJ sets are often the same tempo throughout?
They can be but don't have to be. Sometimes tracks are speeded up or slowed down to match others but usually only a few bpm. Often a set will start with slower tracks and gradually get faster to build the energy.
beatmatching is important and essence of djing , having started out with 1210s and cdjs back in early 90s i now am more interested in djing with abelton push k2 s it gives more freedom and creativity, putting one record after a another is kind a boring these days. thanks for the tutorials and information

The faster or slower a track is played after warping (time stretching) from it's original tempo, the worse it will sound. This is why a wise digital dj mixes tracks together with similar tempos, with no more than a few bpm's difference.

Ableton tends to give the bpm of the track but it’s not always accurate

Its certainly not an ideal solution but its an option for DJing if you haven't got decks
There is another app that I used for nix tapes it's called Mixmeister
