    Thank You.
    Yes, it is a powerful song and video, done as only Tom Waits could do it.
    Thank you to all of the men and women who have served and are serving today.
    The work you do in keeping the peace, in disaster relief, in hospitals and so much more is greatly appreciated.

      @@Mel_ForReal. This song had nothing to do with Jeff Lucey. It was written in 2002. Jeff Lucey committed suicide in 2007. It was based on some graffiti scrawled on a cell in Alcatraz during a prison riot. Tom Waits saw it in a book and intended to write a concept album around prisoners in Alcatraz trying to escape. In the 11 years between writing the song and releasing it, the song changed from being about prisoners in Alcatraz to being about men that Tom Waits served with in the Coast Guard during the late stages of Vietnam. People attached Jeff Lucey's story to it because reasons.

    Tom is a poet - able to provoke a strong emotional response with just a few words. And his portrayal is not wrong - the powerful start wars they never have to fight in - sending our young men and women overseas to come back broken physically and mentally and then they are swept under the rug so we don't have to see the fruits their garden has borne us. It is pathetic the way we treat the most valuable people in our country. And not just veterans, but doctors and nurses, teachers and even the average laborer that is the glue that binds our country together. But who makes the money? - influencers, politicians and corporate criminals - people I think we would be better off without...

    Tom Waits is a legendary song writer, showman and actor. He is known to be many characters over the years; a carnival barker, used car salesman, vagrant, preacher and a mischievous teller of tall tales. His voice has been described as a cross between a clown and a firecracker, something that has been soaked heavily in bourbon and hung out to dry in an old smoker.
    His wife has broken down his vast catalog of music into two categories; grim reapers and grand weapers.
    Take your time and delve deep into the muddy waters of his music which spans across 5 decades. "San Diego Serenade",
    "Invitation to the Blues", "Kentucky Avenue", Ruby's Arms", "16 Shells from a 30.6", "Jockey Full of Bourbon", "Way Down in the Hole", " Falling Down", "I Don't Want to Grow Up", and "Make it Rain" are all good places to continue your journey and showcase a fair portion of his wide and varied stylings.
    Thank you for your earnest and perceptive reaction.

    This is one of my all time favourite songs, but I never looked into the lyrics.
    I simply used it as a rack to hang my hatred and anger of what is done to our troops.
    Now that I know Luce killed themselves, all I can do is fucking cry. I have not cried this hard in years.
    Thank you for this insight.
    Support the troops.

      Luke I can understand your anger towards those that disrespect the ones who have fought for our freedoms; but you honor them more by never forgetting their sacrifices, helping where ever you can at Veteran run businesses and Non-profits.
      This is a very deep, powerful song that is extremely hard for me to listen to. I am a Veteran and any pain felt by me fellow brothers and sisters I feel. We've lost entirely too many.
      Thank you for expressing your truth. Peace, Mel

    Thank you for bringing this video out for a public viewing. Tom Waits doesn't get much play in the club scene. But then, their music idols don't make songs about the plight of soldiers.

    I personally think this is the best music video ever. Just beating out "sledgehammer" by Peter Gabriel or "Land of confusion" by Genesis. Tom, his wife and the band members are always on point, with expression only a fan of art can fully grasp. The director of the video nailed it. Yeah again, the best music video ever in my mind.

  • @aleshacoats9033
    @aleshacoats9033 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I liked it, especially the video mentality being chained dragging your home you'd rather be at, the land/idea your fighting for, and all the people you lost while trying to keep on going. I wasn't expecting grrrawl... but then again I've heard that style before Gwar, Five Finger Deathpunch and another I can't think of atm. From FFD I liked Wrong Side of Heaven course the video to that made me cry more than the song, when the one army buddy see the other struggling on the streets and I could see he was desperately saying, "You know me."

    • @Mel_ForReal
      @Mel_ForReal  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is "Wrong Side of Heaven" but they have others as well. FFDP are huge advocates for Veterans. And even though I've seen their videos hundreds of times they and still get emotional they don't trigger my PTSD. This one the other hand...I was getting triggered throughout the whole video, so much so I had an anxiety attack right after. So I decided that I had to take a step away... I apologize that I did not get to your video, Please let me know if you still wish me to do it and I will get it done ASAP. I am deeply sorry. Mel.
