Journey to the Gas Giants [4K]

- Far beyond the reaches of the four rocky planets, we find our Solar System's showpiece worlds- the two gas giants, Jupiter and Saturn. As the two largest planets, both are tantalising targets for probes exploring the planetary neighbourhood. But both lie significantly farther from the sun than the Earth and its terrestrial neighbours. But in the early 1970s, the technology for deep space voyages was primed, and missions to both Jupiter and Saturn ensued. Those missions make up the topic of our video today, in this second episode of our trilogy of Probes that Studied the Solar System.
PROBES Episode 2: Journey to the Gas Giants
The next video will be the last of 2023, and it should be out around Christmas.

😂
A full 45 minutes of pure entertainment. Love this channel!

I thought people only watched these to fall asleep like me
lol same thought
24:08 caught me by surprise. Fantastic video and shout out to Earth, Wind, and Fire!
LOL!
If that was intentional by NASA....lol
i thought i stroked out at first
In best interest of Water
*in the moons* 😊
24:06 caught me off guard lmao
You know it’s going to be a great day when SEA drops a video!

If you have not won an award for your channel, you should. It is an amazing effort and makes astrophysics accessible to a very large audience.
Not minimizing SEA, but it’s crazy how some guy can create far superior productions to major tv channel.
I agree. I'd like a bit more technical narration, though. Like, more details on atmospheric composition etc. Or maybe what kind of equations you need to pull off these missions, and how a layman can relate to them.
Well said. Sea does a great job breaking down complex astrophysical topics for a general audience, and doesn’t heavily use technical jargon
@@Ken-fh4jc Major tv channels are just a bunch of guys with a lot less enthusiasm
I legitimately thought I was having a stroke at 24:05
I was falling asleep and my heart just dropped lmfao.
No same I got scared 😂
SEA and Astrum are #1!
why does astronomical science sound so good with a British man narrating it?
I love both of these channels as well!
As always, your videos are wonderfully composed, from the topics discussed down to the visuals and music. I truly am more amazed with each video you put out; the amount of skill required to not only explain the information you're presenting, but also understand it enough to convey it effectively... it's (pardon the pun) out of this world. I can't wait to see what the future has in store for you, SEA. Things can only keep going up from here, and I can't wait to witness it. ♥
Thank you so much for these beautiful words and that equally out of this world donation!! 💙 It brings me a lot of joy to see people enjoying the videos, and they’re a lot of fun to make 😊 thank you so much again for your support💙🙏
I recently bought my first house and played all your videos while I painted the rooms and did some minor repair over the course of two months before fully moving in. Your videos are the best and are now forever part of my memory of my new home. I was born and raised in Hawaii but moved away. This video is so fitting for me to finally have made a comment with a Hawaiian name given to the super cluster. Thank you.
That is such a beautiful sharing. Thank you!
Finally a Sea video, I always love watching them to forget about everyday problems, also this channel has one of the best quality of all astronomy focused channels on TH-cam ❤
Agreed. It’s great to be able to shut down everyday problems and replace it with excistential dread about the universe. And yea. Sea is the clear winner when it comes to all things space
@Reladan187 definitely. I would have to say SEA and coolworlds are about tied with the quality space content. Both are really enjoyable to listen to
@@smellmyfinger85 oh yea, coolworlds definetly up there too
24:06 I was half asleep when I first heard this. I thought I was having a stroke.
24:20I NEVER heard you break character lmfao
I remember.
Thank you so much for the detailed accounts of the Pioneers! I've seen so many "documentaries" that never mentioned them at all, and they were the first to the Giants and the first to leave the solar system!
Both sections were a pleasure to make! They are majestic missions and I was really lucky that someone made a Pioneer mod for space engine too!
If you like the Pioneer probes you should read "The Depths of Space" by Mark Wolverton. Fantastic book about them.
@@LegitPicklez I have, I've got a copy.
Haha that's awesome. Great book@@AuntyProton
SEA, I do not know who You are but Your work have allowed me to live, not die, for a long time. You are appreciated. I offer my respect.
I would like to recommend doing a video about Cixin Liu’s Three Body Problem series subjects. F.ex.: How do human research approach the reality of a hostile extraterrestrials.
He helped me through some tough times too 🥰 hope you're feeling better. Each one of us is a beautiful thread in the tapestry of the universe. Be well friend 🙏💫
Just amazing that one very smart guy on his own can out-do all the resources the BBC has on hand to produce a space program this entertaining, enlightening and endearing….! Who would have believed it possible only a few short decades ago… Many thanks for bringing us with you along your journey into the astonishing world of astrophysics!
If anything is the imagery I recall from my early youth, it is that brought home by those astounding probes, Pioneer 10 and 11, and Voyager 1 and 2. Without it, I doubt i would have gone on to become an aerospace engineer.
24:07 this was so unexpected, but a welcome one.
24:05 completely unexpected and hilarious, thanks for adding this hahaha
Video is top-notch, hands-down my favorite channel, but that part had me laughing hard!! Subtle and well-placed!!! Thanks SEA
It scared me shirtless while I was drifting off to sleep 😂
I cant sleep. Started youtube to type SEA to choose wich video to watch.. And now this!!
Goodnight everyone.
:D
New SEA? Yes please.
Earth Wind and Fire reference, priceless!!! I had to rewind to make sure I heard what I thought I heard! LOL 😂
I legitimately love this channel. Id gladly wait for a quality video, which you always provide. I have probably watched/listened/fell asleep to nearly every video multiple times. Your voice is perfectly relaxing and the information delivery is on point! I'd give more if I could (: thank you SEA
Thank you so much for the kind words and for the donation! Sorry it took me a while to see this comment! 💙🙏
The suspect white discharge of the great white spot 😭 this is by far one of my favourite youtube channels, if not my absolute favourite. Keep the amazing videos coming!
No matter how many times I hear about these probes I'm always floored by the brilliance of the people who worked on them and all of the things they had to figure out and account for. Very awe inspiring.
The sheer amount of happieness I feel when I see another upload from this dude is something I have not felt since childhood. Keep doing what you do :)
Love that little "21 night of September" easter egg!!!
Nice EWF reference.
The content is top shelf.
That caught me off guard 😂
It's soo great to see the compilation of over 50 years of data spewed and compiled into a format that resembles pure gold. Well done as always SEA. Love it
Hey Sea, I know you don’t play GD anymore but 2.2 finally released 🎉😂
Idk why every SEA-video is below 10m views to be honest, the quality is outstanding
I cannot express how enjoyable these videos are. A well-written, well-read script. Beautiful imagery.
And most important, no ads for scams or tat nobody needs, no aggressive plugging of your other socials, just a short frame with no narration, \btw, I'm also here, but I won't ruin the flow of the video pitching them to you.'
Stay classy, Sir!
It was this day, about midnight, when failing asleep, I almost shit myself. This weird pronunciation of date 21 of September waked me big time. Was it a demon? Was this my hallucination? No, it was a joke... 😅
I remember when you did GD content, good to see you have come this far! (PS I miss the riot-cyclic rivalry video pls repost it lmao).
The Galileo Jupiter probe surviving up to 18,000K is insane, I can hardly such a thing is possible. Wow
Thank you for covering the ingenious Pioneers probes. I love the tension of the first passage through the asteroid belt.
Never ceases to amaze me how criminally underrated this channel still is. Thank you for delivering us consistently phenomenal content. Please know just how much we all appreciate your effort; you’re doing something truly great here. Much love to you my friend ❤
It is just staggering to learn about all of the space probes that have been launched and where they are decades after. Astronomy is truly mind blowing.
Our limited knowledge of the cosmos makes me envious of the future. New discoveries within solar system and beyond will be discovered long after we pass. We as enthusiasts will never see or hear about these new discoveries, but we have SEA to guide us through what we currently understand. That I’m thankful for.
Personally space has always been an interesting topic
I just wanted to say, I’m asleep for half of the videos you make but I still really enjoy them. Very educational, very high quality, very professional. But not boring, and still quite unique
SEA great hanging out with you today. Great Part 2. Can't wait until Part 3.
People can say w3hat they like about these space probes. They truly went the distance. Litteraly and figuratively.
Pioneer. Voyager. Galileo and Cassini truly performed and showed us what was out there.
Man, what a great channel. Top tier quality, content, production, storytelling, I can go on… you dont know how much you have gotten me through.
Your videos have honestly reinvigorated my love of space, the detail, organization, and care you put into these videos is so appreciated. Thank you
Thanks for your time and effort SEA
These kind of astronomy documentaries are what used to be on the Science Channel back when it wasn’t mostly reality shows. Except this doesn’t have the resources of a whole tv network conglomerate behind it; it’s just this channel. What a giant accomplishment!
Outstanding videos this and the previous one. You can't go wrong with the solar system. Basically we are not yet to the point to travel to interstellar space but in the meantime we have a pretty awesome solar system to explore. Great series. I can't wait for the next one!
If you like these two I promise I’ll blow your socks off with #3 😁🙏
the perfect subject to watch in 4k👍🏼 thanks!
Another absolute gem of a video. You should be on a streaming service.
That count down intro is trippy
This was amazing! Your talent is next level, these videos could be documentaries on Netflix etc. Thanks for such incredible content!
Can't wait for ice giants video now.
Bravo my dude!!! I love watching your videos at night (late night) when it’s just me doing house work, side hustle hobbies or just laying in bed. I love the outer planets the most. So full of wonder and beauty, and Jupiter (The Godfather) is earths protector. Keep up the great work!!! I can’t wait for part 3!!!
Jupiter wind and fire! Nice job, another gem in a long and consistent catalog of quality content!
Thanks for the little nod to the 23rd of September. It was much appreciated!😉
Nothing like a cozy and warm SEA video after a day working in the frigid cold!
Sea I absolutely love these videos. Nothing like being educated and entertained at the same time bro. Much like the spacecraft you're describing over the years you have developed such a wonderful style and substantial substance thank you
oh my gosh I was convinced that another tab was playing audio when SEA started singing 21st Night of September-
Ah yes it's that time again.❤
30:22
Those photos of the decent and landing onto Titan always bring me such joy. Simply amazing.
@24:12 I was not expecting to get a muscial performance. 🎶😆
"on the 21st night of september" 🤣🤣🤣
Amazing as always
I watched all of your videos before I was pregnant but when I became pregnant I only watched your channel. Now even with the wonders of Ms Rachel, my 15 month old son only watches the screen when he hears your voice.
I hope he grows up thinking your voice is the voice os Space the way I grew up thinking Sir David Attenborough is the voice of Nature.
Thank you for this sharing of knowledge. ❤
This is so awesome, thank you very much and I’m so glad you can get so much enjoyment from them 😊
Incredible content as always my friend. Thank you!!
How the hell this channel hasn’t have plus 50 million subscribers!!?? I’ve been falling asleep with this channel for years ❤ thank you
Simply wonderful! ❤
thankyou for the interesting video
What an outstanding series!
Thanks! Your videos are always amazing
Glad you like them, and thank you so much for the generous donation! 🙏💙
It is anathema to one’s astronomical education to ever miss a Sam E. Anderson video!!
💫🙏
Dude 😁 thanks for literally spelling out the meaning of his channel name, I've been wondering for ages, I was gunna have to sound stupid and ask. Sweet 😎
Thank you for these. You, John Micheal Godier, Astrum, and few other channels really make life tolerable.
You specifically are my go-to.....
You really deliver excellent content that teaches me a lot and slows my Brian down from the busy that is everyday life. Truly, thank you, sir.
Love your stuff man! Thank your making such quality content available for free.
God bless you!
24:08 lol very cute 😊
Love this channel so much....only wish the videos were more often! But I know brilliance takes time... genuinely love it🥳
"Leaving long trails of suspect white discharge." That was the best way you came up to describe that thing? Lol
Jupiter is my favorite planet and this video just makes me giggle with joy, thank you Sea for being awesome, wish you health and happiness. ❤
@29:46, is that supposed to be a view of Jupiter from Titan? Love it!
at 24:05 when ya say 21st of september. that was so weird.
lol
Orbiting Uranus and Neptune like Cassini did around Saturn would be a massive technologic achievement.
Hell yeah, been waiting for a new vid
Amazing video as always. Cannot wait for the Ice Giants!!
The original and best! SEA! 😊
Good video to fall asleep to
great video to stay awake to too!
perfect timing
This was awesome to watch ❤🪐🛰️📡
Best space channel on TH-cam
Thumbs up and added to favorites because of different to others info. Thank you 😍
Love it, absolutely fantastic.
Beautifully done. Thank you 🌎🌕🛰️
Your channel brings back so many good childhood memories of mine. Back then my parents would bring me encyclopedias and picture books to read about these planets and heavenly bodies cause they know how much I love astronomy. I found this channel to be extremely informative and easy to listen to, it’s like reading those encyclopedias again but on a much more visual and documentary style.
"Brilliance" is what comes to my mind whenever I see an SEA video.
The video itself is high quality and then we have the commentator, with the most soothing voice, telling you all about the universe we live in. His voice fits these videos perfectly!
Not sure what his name is, but in my humble opinion he should be mentioned in lists such as: Morgan Freeman, David Attenborough and Neil deGrasse Tyson...
Another AMAZING visual and educational time with SEA...❤ Can't wait to see the finale to this trilogy.
Looking forward to listening to this tonight!
24:00 lol :D
24:05 was great! You earned a sub!
That september song was hilarious 😂
Another bang up job Sea! Cant wait for the next part ❤
🎶 *On the 21st night of September* 🎶😂
Great video! Loved this one 🪐🌎
Another fantastic video from SEA. Thank you!
