Jeff, this video gives countless people the opportunity to grow veggies when they never dreamed possible. You get a pat on the back from me. Now go make another because we’re all waiting.
I love container gardening, I did lettuce, carrots, strawberries , pumpkin and squash and they did amazing. (Though the squirrels kept scratching into the pumpkins and squash lol) It also gives you the added benefit of being able to move to shady areas if the sun is cooking the daylights out of them. I use grow bags and watering from the bottom up is so easy, just put them in a plastic tub with about 2-3 inches of water and let them drink their fill for about an hour or two which also minimizes soil leeching. A 3 inch layer of mulch around the plants helps protect that moisture too.
I have been watching your videos for a while now and I haven't commented yet, I struggle to find the words to thank you enough. I have learned so much for my garden from you and that's amazing. However, an even greater impact you had was on my mental health. Your attitude and wholesomeness helped me through immense struggles I've been having, it didn't solve the problems since only myself and my close friends and family can do that, but you are pretty close up there. You are one of the reasons I've been able to stay afloat. Thank you so much, never give up on that kind energy! I am sure that you helped this way many more people, and I am certain that many more will benefit in this manner. Thank you!
So glad green onions made the list! They are such an easy crop to grow, maintain, and harvest. I started with planting store bought green onions directly into soil in a planter pot, they do really well! Cheers from the Thompson-Nicola region!
Good morning Jeff. 🙏 I am praying I don't miss any steps in gardening. Our strawberry plants still have not come in on ups. But everything else is growing and starting fruit. Except egg plants haven't even germinated yet. He keeps planting more. Idk. You can't fall asleep on research job. Lol 😆 but my head hurts. Lol 😆 love yall ❤
Hi Jeff. Thank you for this. I'm happy you mentioned depth. Depth is my stumble. Most seed packets, let you know. My next dilemma is on fertilizers, the numbers. I understand their in part numbers. But I am not sure which I'm supposed to use for which veggis/ fruit. I'm sure I'll come across your video on the subject. And I was wondering what about bone meal and blood meal? Like which plant benefits. I have purchased it. But I'm not sure wh9ch . Oh, never mind, I just have to figure this out. . Nitrogen, prosphate, and something else, but I have to figure out which plants thrive on it. I'm a little wound up today. I'm not sure if I'm cut out for growing food. I guess I never realized how much knowledge is needed. I really appreciate you. You're just so damn smart. I'm not even sure if I'm making sense. Since my heart . 2 or 3 weeks ago. I get antsy and overwhelmed at simple things. I am hoping my memory improves and this hyper stage goes away. The doctor claims, " you may have some improvement, Donna." If so, I won't have to pester you. And figure things out. I guess it's medication time. Lol. Sorry, Jeff. Thanks.take care & God bless ❤
Hi Donna, all great questions, all completely on point! NPK is your macros..your Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium. They are the 3 biggies. The next group are the essentials and they are calcium, magnesium, sulfur, chloride, iron, boron, manganese, zinc, copper, molybdenum and nickel. After that, there's trace elements, then compounds. Each plant requires different amounts at different stages of its life. With a healthy, compost-amended soil, you'll likely never have to add chemical fertilizers.....ever. And most things should never ever be fed in the few weeks prior to harvest. After that, its a crop-by-crop basis that's unfortunately beyond the scope of a single comment here. But keep at it, you got this!
Thank you so much. After purchasing my home, I couldn't wait to see if I had a green thumb. following you made a big difference and gave me the confidence I needed to start a garden. ❤❤❤
Appreciate you, Jeff!! Starting serious this year, but I live in a townhouse and must grow 95% of crops indoors (annoying HOA, lol!)… I’ve got a lot to learn! 🙏❤️😋
Right on! You're not limited at all! Higher costs in soil and possibly nutrients, but so many crops suited for pots and containers.....I had to stop or this video would have been 30 minutes long! Best of luck. 🙂
@@TheRipeTomatoFarms Keeping those great videos at a good length, you must be a master editor, lol! Thanks, Jeff! I’m gonna keep on keepin’ on! Thanks for your help with gardening! Going to be moving maybe within the year and plan to take transplants. Getting started in containers now would really be a good thing. I grow some in containers now but so much more can be done. Like blueberries, i have one from last year and one I just got, so I plan on keeping in containers. pH is a concern as i pot up and maintain. Thanks!
Hi presently I'm seeing my tomatoes looking just like that and wondering what did I do to my tomatoes but didn't know this was a thing thank you for this video 💚
Amen you’re preaching to the choir, that’s exactly what I had to do , place my vegetables and herbs in a container and on my front porch patio because that’s where I have the space, there’s walking space on my patio and I have very large stairs or should I say very wide stairs, so I probably can utilize the very wide stairs too , just five of them very large and wide stairs wide enough that people can pass by not trip over anything that’s how large they are . lol 😅🪴🪴🪴🪴🪴🪴🪴🪴🪴🪴🪴🪴🪴🪴
Thanks for the list Jeff. I'm going to be growing strawberries in a Green Stalk. I just assumed in Minnesota they would die over the winter without being dug up and buried. What do you think?
Cheers yukon. Yeah, the greenstalks are tough. So little soil..so little buffering capacity for exposure and temperature swings. If you could over the planter without warming it up too much, I'd think you could overwinter them....hard, but not impossible. 🙂

Sound great! What pepper varieties?
When doing container strawberries how do you winterize the outside of the pot? Would it be bad to use fabric pots?
Fabric pots are great year-round! I group mine together near a fence or structure to minimize the exposure: th-cam.com/video/d7DqpIUTOlg/w-d-xo.html
I germinated strawberry seeds it sprouted
But why did it dry up in a few days?
And what is the best home made fertilizer for strawberry plants?
I have a 2'x4' planter. Is that big enough for a pepper plant, a vining tomato plant and 1 or 2 celery plants? Thanks
Hi Jeff, do you put fabric pots elevated or on the ground?🤔
Hi Paul, I do both! Mostly on the ground, but I have them EVERYWHERE....:-)
Dont forget peppers easy container grow
How do you feel about peppers?
Honestly, exactly as tomatoes. Big enough pot, they are awesome in a container setup. 🙂
With produce prices rising I purchased a Planta greenhouse
