if you dont score 4 points. a point is earned when a ball passes the headstring (the breaking point) and if a ball is potted during the break. so if for example 3 balls passed the headstring and 1 ball is potted, it's a legal break. if only 2 balls pass the headstring and 1 ball potted, it's an illegal break. a ball potted behind the headstring is counted as 2 points. hope this helps.
