    I was going to get the PA-12' love that boat and the blue and new orange camo is my Fav. But I also loved the AP-120, with spot lock. I had already purchased my new PP-767 J2 Bixpy. So I run the Bixpy, and then my Minnkota when I fish. It's awesome to have that spot lock on a craft you trust. Sweet set-up bro!! 😎 💯 🛶

      Good choice! I was afraid of getting stuck up the creek with a paddle, so to speak, if my motor died so went with the peddle drive as a back up. How do you like the Bixpy? - I Agee the spot lock is a game changer.

      @@CurrentJAM The Bixpy is awesome, and it's just one power wire. I purchased it because, if my Minnkota dies, or I have any issue connection on either. I'll always have power, to get back home. I've always run a Bixpy, with my fin drive. 😎

    Hi, thanks for this video! I have the same PA360 and i'm iteresting of Motorguide. Some curiosities : what was your speed with Motorguide? How many Knots? How aobut battery and capacity? Thanks for answer. luca

    • @CurrentJAM
      @CurrentJAM  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Luca
      I was getting about 4 knots but since my shaft wasn’t in the water enough, it wasn’t a good test for max speed with the unit.
      I use dual FPV-Power 50Ah Lithium Batteries. They should last me 10+ hours but haven’t had the chance to confirm - it’s off season at the moment so I would need to test this coming spring.

    Great video, thank you. Curious if you have a center mounted transducer? If so does the bow mount trolling motor cause issues with a center mounted transducer since it will be subject to the transducer to water turbulence?

    • @CurrentJAM
      @CurrentJAM  ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question! I do utilize the center transducer mount that comes with the Hobie PA. I have not noticed any image artifacts or noise due to the water turbulence. Even at top speed. Hope this helps.

      Hi Tom, the unit is about 42 lbs and the plate is really light composite (max 50 lbs total)

      The model in the video is an XI3 that was cut down to size as they didn’t have a saltwater kayak version available at that time. There is a newer kayak version XI3 SALTWATER 55LB 36" WITH PINPOINT GPS.
      Pinpoint GPS is required to use the anchor feature.

    Have you tested this set up in choppy/windy conditions? I have a pa14 and frequently fish in 1-2 ft chop. I'm very interested in buying one of these but I'm worried that the weight on the bow would make for a very wet ride.

    • @CurrentJAM
      @CurrentJAM  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It could be a wet ride in chop even without it, at least from my experience, the bow digs into waves.
      1-2 ft chop shouldn’t effect the prop but would really depend on the frequency of the waves. 1-2 ft chop at 12+S np, 1-2ft at 3-5s might be an issue - with the prop getting a lot of air time

    Have you had any problems with kayak itself? Some people have had problems with the drive and belts for the 360 popping. I just sold my 2020 Outback. Looking to upgrade to a PA14 360 now.

    • @CurrentJAM
      @CurrentJAM  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jimmy, i've encounter noise issues early on, very loud squeaking, each time I peddled. I did a combo of Boeshild T-9 and clutch tightening to address it, although I do have to reapply T-9 after a few trips.
      I also take on small amounts of water from the rear hatch, it's not enough to cause concern, but I do have to dry it out after each use.
      Other than that I'm happy with it so far.

      @@CurrentJAM I have that same problem but for the life of me I can't figure out where the water gets in. I have to keep a sponge in the front hatch and sponge it out after each trip, not a lot of water, about a coffee cup?

    • @CurrentJAM
      @CurrentJAM  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was determined to try and figure it out where the water was coming in from, so when hosing down the kayak I paid close attention to where water was coming in.
      If the bucket is inserted in my bow hatch it doesn’t seal correctly. Removing the large white bucket solve that.
      Water also get in via the rod tubes in the bow, I haven’t solved this yet.
      I also have water coming in via the hatch in the stern and also via the screws on the rudder square hatch in the stern (I’ve sealed the screws but the round hatch still leaks)
      Not a lot of water to be concerned, but enough to be curiously annoyed 😠
      How that helps.

    Hi great video but, too much trouble, an Old town Kayak has all of that setup already

    • @CurrentJAM
      @CurrentJAM  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This is true my friend, but the pedal drive does provide mobility and non electrical propulsion if needed, outside of a hand paddle. These two combined are the best of both worlds.
      If I had to choose one or the other, it would be dependent if I ever want to fish tournaments that don't allow for a motor.
      For my current fishing, i would lean towards the Old Town.

    • @ArbitraryLifestyle
      @ArbitraryLifestyle 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hope you enjoy paddling, because you'd never be able to have your motor deployed in a lot of places I fish or need to cross in order to get to the honey hole. I can simply do "futter kicks" with my fins in skinny water and then return to full kicks when it's deep enough (sometimes for only a few feet at a time) in my Hobie. Having a powerful motor up front that can be deployed when needed and still retail pedal power otherwise is the shit!!

      I haven’t experienced any issues with the Xi3. I have a minn kota on my boat and the spot lock feature struggles to keep position from my experience. That’s not to say that the kayak version wouldn’t have an easier time with a smaller vessel.
      Minn Kota is overall ranked better than the Motorguide from the experts so it comes down to budget vs some extra features.
