    Love the sticker Rod made for your lathe... Those T-Nut's are real beefy, hope the viewer can share photo of the nuts being used. Funny how a desire for an straightforward job on a rainy day, can often bite ass in many different ways, but you got there in the end.

    Hiya Matty, hard spots in steel can be a pain in the backside. Many years ago we were machining S96 steel blocks, that steel has 2.5% nickel, chromium-molybdenum. It was a nightmare, luckily the foundry accepted the blame, still didn't help us machine the breeches on a MoD contract. We played about with feeds, speeds and tooling. That helped but it was still very disheartening.
    Recently we've had an increase of 256% of the normal rainfall. Regards to you and the family, stay safe and well 👍

    It could be play in the "Y" axis on the Cinncinati mill? Lock up the "X", just drop a clock on it and put some force on it. Worst case its only worn in a smallish area.
    I did notice sparks from the fly cutter, so more force?=

    Well it turned out well in the end Matty. Never done any horizontal milling . My machine is vertical only & probably only a 1/4 the size of yours. I cannot take deep cuts like you did , as the machine would take off. Deepest with my facemills are about 0.25mm per cut. Any more & it does not like it. Hope you are ok & see you on the next one.

    Nice work - sometimes it’s good to knock something simple out. It results in a completed project in short order, which is satisfying. There is a lot to be said for “small wins”. I don’t know what might be causing that “break” pattern after flycutting. Curious - I’d love to know the reason if it ever comes to light - although it’s really just a surface texture. Overall looks excellent - but I totally appreciate how you are concerned about the fine details. Cheers! 👍👍

    Matty, based on the changing surface pattern you got when using the Cincinnati, my guess is that the table swiveled as the tool pressure changed. If you can't adjust your gibs to eliminate that pattern, you may get to machine and/or scrape the worn surfaces. Good luck!

  • @Rustinox

    another great video, keep em coming, l have what l hope is not a dumb question, is it not possible to have a central sump for coolant, and have each machine draw from of, and drain back to it, it looks like coolant sumps are not high up on the list when machines are designed, judging by the belt drawing out the sludge.

    • @MattysWorkshop
      @MattysWorkshop  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Gday, theres no such thing as a dumb question mate, this could be done but I think it would require a lot of plumbing and a bigger pump, the lines would more then likely have to be over head to feed each machine, if all the machines were along say one wall side by side it would be quite easy to do, Thanks for watching, Cheers

    Hi Matty, from Cumbria, UK, Had you considered the square bar is probably end of a bar? I got a lot of large offcuts which were end of bar off cuts for free, they are OK but can be very unpredictable as for how they cut. End of bar cools quicker and sometimes the mill rollers don't press as hard or press harder at the end of the bar so for critical components many engineering shops dispose of the bar ends, not worth the trouble.
    Seeing your horizontal mill make me yearn for my old Denbigh flat belt mill. Great old tool, I even used it for line boring motorcycle engine crank bearing housings.
