Homeworld is a legend of the RTS genre, it's captivating story isn't just good by RTS standards, it's up there with the best of them. With a 90% discount you may be wondering whether this game is worth your time? Perhaps you've played it already, are you looking forward to Homeworld 3? Let me know your thoughts!
Yes! I am so excited for homeworld 3! It might be a bit of a rabbit hole, but part of the reason that homeworld 2 was so underwhelming is because what is now homeworld 3 was supposed to be in homeworld 2, 20 years ago. It ended up being scraped because computers of that era had no way of computing that, but it's a cool little nugget of history. If you ever want to learn a little bit more about that look up homeworld dust wars, the original title of homeworld 2. There's a cool youtube video showing off an old demo. Also loved the review and glad you enjoyed the story as much as I do!
I think i saw 2 of your videos in the last few weeks. Both were exactly what i was looking for. There are no questions unanswered after watching them, as a player who never played those games. Absolutely brilliant, subscribed and whish you all the best 👍
I'm glad to hear that! It's difficult to know whether the videos are the right ones, so it's great to hear the positive feedback! Please let me know if there are any other games you think need this kind of video :)
@@twiglets2 I'm at the start of space strategy games exploration and have a rather long list ahead of me - Battlestar Galactica: Deadlock, Nexus - The Jupiter Incident, Battlefleet Gothic: Armada 2, Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion, Endless Space 2, Galactic Civilizations 3, Stelaris and Distant Worlds 2. Feel free to pick any of those, i'll be happy to watch the video 😉
Gotta agree, the 3D movement at first it's kinda hard to get used at first, but it becomes really useful to master once you start to encounter your firsts capital ships
I remember being baffled by it initially but have since discovered my mouse is a bit dodgy so that probably compounded the situation. Once you get used to moving the camera quickly and commanding ships in 3d space I started having a great time!
I'm so stoked for hw3. Hw and hw2 has a huge portion of my heart taken up. Absolute best game I've ever played, adagio for strings is the best possible piece paired with the story, hope, loss, redemption and release... (chefs kiss)
Absolutely! I'm glad I decided to pick up both games all these years later, I hope HW3 does HW1 justice. I've heard there's a lot of hate for HW2 though, what did you think of it?
Over 20 years game was so forgotten that yes - multiplayer is dead since like 2009 and even Remastered Collection didn't helped much. There is still existing commmunity of homeworld players - but yes, it's a community, so games are mstly being set up at some exat time when groups of players are talking together on discord. A random person can have a hard time finding open game at lobby. About mods - yes, a lot of them are out of date, they were created before Remastered Collection and work only for classic versions. Still active are FX Galaxy. Complex is still up to date, but was abandoned by creators in previous year. BUt Complex is still one oof the best and the biggest mods created. Since 2019 nobody makes new mods or updates them because everybody are waiting for Homeworld 3. Really nice video! Oh, and yes - Homeworld 3 is going to be released in 2023 :)
Thank you for the additional info on multiplayer and mods, it's useful to hear this from an experienced player. Did you see the recent Gamescom video on Homeworld 3? It looks like we will be using objects to sneak up on the enemy, interesting!
Thank you! I hope you found it useful. A shame this particular video hasn't gained more traction as I found Homeworld to be a superb game. Perhaps next time.
I've always liked homeworld since I first got into it in 2014/2015, but it's really sad that it didn't take off similar to games like Stellaris or Endless Space because the game is incredibly fun. I haven't played it a lot recently because once you complete the campaigns and play a few "multiplayer" games there's not too much left to experience. The replayability isn't huge as there's a very limited number of factions, the multiplayer is basically dead with only a handful of communities out there which play at very specific times, and mods are generally outdated. I really hope HW3 takes off because this game franchise definitely deserves it, it's the one game that got me into strategy games and I love it for that.
I agree, and I was particularly disappointed to find the mods so outdated. Do you think there is a risk that HW3 will have the same problem, once you've completed the campaign and played a bit of multiplayer there isn't much replayability left?
Amazing video, I love this game a lot. The ships are beautiful (except for the Taiidan multi-gun corvette), The lore is amazing. & The story of going home, Fighting the death plague as discarded miners, & homeworld 2. It is great. & you are right on time for the steam summer sale.
Thank you! I have fallen in love with this game, so glad I tried it (took me long enough) it's not often in RTS games I feel I can play the campaign missions more than once but love the replayability in Homeworld! I hope others find it useful for the summer sale, it's such a bargain!
@davecarr2000 what a great deal for those that haven't played it before! (I'm not sure if free is technically a "deal") but either way, it's one of those games I would like to forget playing so I can experience the campaign for the first time again
Game is so worth it, already have 10 hours on this game from playing and I've enjoyed it. Including the mods that make it so much better and realistic like eve online but better. I still have to get better because the AI is somehow smart, still new and learning what combos are best n stuff, but if you like rts games and space then this is a crazy good game to play
I'm glad you've found mods like eve online as I've struggled to find any that work, though I didn't look for particularly long. Are there any others you've tried that you would recommend at all?

@zacharypump5910 you're correct. There isn't a galaxy map to explore, the games take you from one mission to the next, one map to the next without you having a choice of where to go.
