Mayakovsky loved Lilya very much but Lilya didn't love him back the same way (maybe in a different way but not the way he loved her, and not that strongly). Here in the song they both say that they both love each other in the same way, the way Mayakovsky loved Lilya. So actually, they are both safe from betrayal and heartbreak. Because they love each other equally strong.
