    You'd be surprised how many videos do NOT tell you to set the body at infinity before reinstalling the 50mm. You're the first video I've seen that mentions this. On my Kiev 4M, which arrived yesterday, I don't see a selector marker on the shutter speed dial to pick one of the shutter speeds below it. Just those screws on the side of it.

      Thanks so much for watch and your observation is well-taken! Enjoy your Kiev 4m. I have one too!

    You have a great collection. I have a Contax III, IIa, IIIa (two), and some broken Kievs. The postwar Contaxes are really well built. I just suggest to send this camera only to people really familiar with them, because there are many bad technicians out there. Concretely, the 1/1250 speed will only work correctly with either two solutions. (a) increase shutter curtain spring tension to really high levels, (b) completely disassemble the shutter, clean and relubricate everything. You will understand that MANY camera techs choose (a) to save time. Solution (a) will damage the camera over time and will also result on a very loud shutter that sounds "clack!" or "quack" instead of being very quiet. So first thing you should do with such a camera is REDUCE curtain tension, even if this means losing 1/1250 speed.

    If you want to use other focal-lengths than 50mm with your Contax (and you do😊) invest in the Zeiss-Ikon Turret View-finder..

    If you have a conax 11a red dial you can use a modern PC cord for flash.

    BRAVO! I also have my Dad's Contax IIa, as I used it during when I was in High School, and really love it, however as a camera in the 1950's, that it needed work, and I was told that it needed $400 worth of shutter, and film spacing, So I got my self a Canon 7, and a Yashica YF(Leica M3 Copy) with 3 lenses, But I missed my Dad's camera as after he passed away that I place it in a Display Case as a Memorial but I did get a Contax II, and III with 3 lenses, a 35mm 2.8, 85mm 2.0, and the 50mm 2.0. Very much love the Zeiss quality when they made cameras. Good Video!!.

    Kiev is not a copy of COntax..... this is the same camera but made in Kijów after WWII Russian took whole personel and tools from factory to Kijów. Thay made the same contax but with mark Kiev. Thay also made some unnamed series for USA i supose becouse noone know where thay finally arriwed.

    • @longde
      @longde 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Correct, it's not a copy, they used the same factory, it was a legal production of the Contax. But this is true for the very first Kievs, then the soviets modified the design/evolved the design for the 2A, 3A, 4A, and 4AM cameras. Sadly the latest cameras, while being more practical, are worse made.

      @@longde I haven't tried a late rmodel Kiev and all of the reviews I wached and read, says the same thing! It's reliability is questionable and issues are all over the place! Though love to get hold one of these!

      First: The Russians DIDN’T take all the Zeiss-Ikon employees to "Ukraine", half of them fled West and "surrendered" to US-troops.
      Secondly: German Contaxes and "Ukrainian" Contaxes are NOT identical.
      That's why, if you send a genuine German Contax, to a "repair-person" in "Ukraine", they'll steal the entire shutter-mechanism and replace it with a "Kiev" mechanism.
      DO NOT send your original German-made Contax to "Ukraine" for CLA!!

      I agree that it is basically a Contax rather than a copy thereof. thanks,
