It is true - this story makes for a great folk tune. Even here in Sweden, where we are quite particular about lethal self defense, this was generally seen as an obvious case of legitimate self defense and it was weird to see so many in the US to see it as some kind of racist motive.

Brad, just offering some advice from another beginner...lots of advice online but also lots of confusing info for the beginner. I bought an American-made beginner resonator banjo back in March, and while I don't regret it for a minute, had I known just a bit more, I'd have probably gone with an open back and saved a few bucks. The resonator is nice if you are playing with other instruments- which is why they recommend it if you want to play bluegrass- which I did, but if you are playing solo- which I do- the extra volume is not necessary, and in some ways, not wanted- ask my wife! You can still play bluegrass by yourself on an open-back, but if I was starting out, I'd go with old style two finger thumb lead which is what Clifton is playing here. You'll save a few bucks and not have to worry about finger picks for awhile. Either way, if you enjoy it ½ as much as I do- your "no more thinking" is dead on! Enjoy and good luck.
@@paulmarkowski9794 Thank you for this good help! I already play guitar (amateur) so hopefully banjo won’t be a big leap. Fantastic! I study folklore and folk music at an academic level. This is literally a folk song in the making. This process of telling a contemporary story in the form of a song, is how we got many of the Medieval ballads from Europe. Like even today, in 2021, folk singers of Scandinavia are still telling the tale of how the Swedish Prince Carl was executed in AD 1290 when he returned from exile after helping his brother Folke kidnap a princess. Folk songs are not how we teach history, but they are how we tell history.

I hope anyone who finds themselves in Kyle's position is victorious. There will never be justice for the masses, until we have justice for each man as an individual. From afar (Sweden), and from a guy who grew up with, and helped a father restore US WW2 Jeeps, (my own had an M1 Garand replica rifle on the inside of the windscreen and a 50 calibre machine gun stand at the back), in a home where the Star Spangled Banner hung in the stairwell, and with many friends in the US, not least in the south (that I’ve visited several times), the Kyle Rittenhouse affair, and the whole situation around him, was such a sad sign of what seems to have happened in the US in the last twenty years or so. I saw a sharp twist in rhetoric after 9/11, everyone starting to be fear and hate driven instead of seeking to build the strong USA that democracy and freedom in the world needs. Everyone blaming the other guy. My hopes for America are all but gone. That’s my blues.
In Mexico we call this type of ballad a “Corrido” . They are extremely popular over there . This song is straight 🔥 I absolutely loved it . I hope someone reads this comment 50 years from now and realizes that freedom cannot be won based solely on the principle of being free. In some cases bloodshed is necessary to be heard and understood but only after every opportunity was given to handle the problem peacefully has been utilized. Then And only then can one shed blood in defense of a cause, idea or another life. This was reinforced by the case of Kyle Rittenhouse.

Come all you friends and neighbors a story I will tell Concerning Kyle Rittenhouse and the criminals he killed, In Kenosha Wisconsin in sorrow and in strife A gang of thugs flew up on him and tried to take his life. The raper Joseph Rosenbaum was first to strike a blow But Kyle turned and faced the foe with his rifle laid him low, Then little Tony Huber come skating to the fray But Kyle drew a bead on him and took his life away. The last to try young Rittenhouse was pistol packing Gaige But Kyle blew his arm in two and Gaige did run away, Kyle Rittenhouse is innocent it's only common sense For he did not do nothing wrong he fought in self defense.
This needs to go down in American music as a must play. I am absolutely certain this song will live on. This event was more important to American history than a lot of people realize.

Some media Outlets have stated corrections but not near enough. I hope his defamation suits serve him well. I have a family member that thought he was guilty until we watch the trial. I knew from the beginning he was innocent because I watched all the footage for myself. There is no way anybody who knew what they were talking about could say that was anything but self-defense. To this day I still see people spreading falsehoods. The song is important because it tells the truth about that kids character. He was actually trying to render Aid to the very mob that wanted to kill him. It all started with Rosenbaum who has a atrocious track record with children attacking them. I really question the people who try to make Rosenbaum and the others out to be victims.

Man, I’ve been thinking about buying myself a banjo. No more thinking! You inspired me!

As someone with over 20 years on the git fiddle I have to say that you are a phenomenal musician.
I might like music more when it is about staying out of trouble rather than having mommy drive you across state lines looking for trouble to live out an adolescent fantasy about being a tough guy where you have no business.
@@dalenincehelser5747 wow you haters fall for dumbest stories. Kyle's mom did not drive him there, his friend did and that was because he had job there
Imagine you were there. Some innocent brown skinned business owner asked for help cuz town getting attacked by violent white teefer-tards. I would not fault you for sitting out but I would fault you for helping.
GET REAL. He murdered in cold blood an unarmed homeless man. Then AFTER HE RAN AWAY FROM THE SCENE OF THE CRIME, when he was chased by people who had SEEN THE MURDER, he trips, falls, wets his pants & fires indiscriminately into the crowd. Usually it takes a minimum of a weapon in someone one ELSE's hands, to be called self defense. When Kyle is the only one holding the gun, it's called MURDER. But I guess only crybaby little white boys lives count.
@@lwaters3100 did u not watch the trial?
@@lwaters3100 you can kill someone without a weapon. I'd happily demonstrate if you give me consent and hold still.
Classic song for a true folk hero.
It's sad that people like you see him as a folk hero. You must believe in vigilante justice and hate law and order if you think it right for a 17 year boy to travel from another state so he can walk around with an illegal assault rifle looking for trouble
@@bipslone8880 HAHAHAH! I will never tire of the fact that you people never tire of making the totally moot point that he was from "another state"--as if that is in ANY way germane. I used to live there--Antioch and Kenosha are essentially the same community. He worked and hung out in Kenosha, his dad lived there, his friends lived there, etc. And the S&W long gun he had was not an "assault rifle"... The people "looking for trouble" were the serial boy-rapist Rosenbaum and his comrades, as they traveled to Kenosha from MANY other towns and states to terrorize the poor folks who lived there, burn down family owned businesses, and violently injure innocent senior citizens. Kyle's actions essentially ended the mayhem by forcing authorities to finally do something. Hero. Free and happy. The scum rot in the ground. Huzzah!
@@genngeorge9909 You don't value life and support vigilantism.
@@bipslone8880 You support the brutal attack on senior citizens, violent crime and terroristic mayhem. Period. I support citizens defending the weak when the government stooges won't.
@@genngeorge9909 When did I support the brutal attack on senior citizens, violent crime and terroristic mayhem. Who is brutally attacking senior citizens? I have no idea what you are talking about.
Incredibly based. We need much more of this in the folk music scene.
Common sense.

This is the best thing I have heard in a very long time, as a fellow hillbilly the banjo runs deep and indeed Kyles are the deeds worthy of song.

Still one of my favorites of yours amigo, has been since you first released it. Never listen to the haters.
ppl will be listening to this folk music based in actual facts 100 years from now.
And the swiftness of that Kyle is still talked about today...
Thank you for speaking your mind in a beautiful form of music. You will make America great and serve as an example for peace.
This was excellent! It’s great to hear a modern Bluegrass poet…
Agreed, but the rap guys are on fire too

This needed to be written, this story should not be forgotten. Kyle is a hero to many people, but he's also a young man who had his life changed drastically because of the hatred and violence enacted by that gang of miscreants and by the ensuing tribulation he's had to endure through the court proceedings. Taking lives often does not sit lightly on people who are trained and prepared to do it, I just hope Kyle has a good network of people around him that can make sure he processes it.

I didn't even think about it like that, but throw Kyle back 100 years, and the dude would've become an actual folk legend. Everyone would've grown up hearing about Eagle Eye Kyle and how he killed three men who were attacking him before they could lay a finger on him.
