I love how Sofie treats everyone with respect no matter how poor the taste or bad the damage she just gently lets the homeowner know what needs to be done and it is amazing how much she is able to do with very little money.
In her mind, everything looked great. True, other than the peeling paint and wallpaper, broken rusty railings, dried-blood paint color, and rotting back steps. Three adults there and none of them could pick up a scraper and a paintbrush.
How could you not even notice the next door neighbor’s curb appeal was really nice while yours looks like there could be a drug den flourishing inside? People notice, and figure if it’s that bad outside it isn’t worth looking inside.
@@tonibauer2405 Absolutely. When my husband and I were house hunting, we never would have entered that place. Right or wrong, when the outside is a rundown wreck, it's assumed the interior is the same.
This house is in The Junction, a neighbourhood in Toronto (Ontario, Canada). I believe this was filmed in 2008, but now in 2021 houses in that neighbourhood go for an average of $933,147.
If I saw a house like this, I would not balk at offering up to $150 thousand. That would leave another $100 thousand for extensive renovations. If it was the only offer from someone who was selling without an agent, it could have been accepted. A flipper would have loved it.
@Cranky Grandma - you're right. I thought there would still have been some type of platform remaining after they removed the stairs and part of the deck but I took another look and they removed the structure right outside the kitchen door so yes, one would tumble into the abyss. They would have had to install a basic staircase at the very least, and it would have been good if they'd shown what they put back there to replace what was demolished.
The only house I have seen on this program that was made up nicely but then after all this work and extra money was spent to accept under the asking that was a big mistake.
The owner clearly forgot that she wasn't a tenant anymore; not maintaining the exterior, decor/furniture choices, etc. But to sell the house with NO experience or help as a first house owner, was a waste of time.
She's in marketing and didnt think that the front of the house mattered................................... let alone it was not even safe to exit the back door....
Wow! She sounds so meannn criticizing the condition of this home🤯 She needs to tone it down a bit. I’ve seen her do this in other episodes but she really went off on this one. The thing is, the homeowner will eventually see this episode. I would not be happy with her comments😕
Uh, no. She was fair and honest, not mean and snarky. She was really nice to the homeowner and it will be good for this young woman to learn the reality of homeownership if she hears more comments on the show. I hope she benefited from this show by learning more about what it takes to take care of a house you own. Renting is better sometimes.
She's just looking for free repairs IMHO. Most of the ones on here are just poor design choices or other issues...this was a structurally unsound entrance on BOTH sides. If you can't even be bothered to paint and remove wallpaper before trying to sell a home, and think you can still sell it on your own, you're delusional.

I think its the accent
Gail and her daughters are gorgeous, she has such beautiful eyes. Glad to see the renovations made were helpful in making the house sellable
Great transition, but what happened to the back area after you ripped out the stairs and porch???
LOL! I just posted the same thing! We never even saw the back yard, but we have in other houses.

Canadian dollars though. So less than $730k USD.
@@Zero11_ss Yeah only $730K no big deal. 🙄
What happened to the back porch?
I wonder how the back porch looks after renovation.
✨💖✨Love hearing that the house sold. I love success stories.

What happened to the back porch and steps that were falling down?
Based on the narrative when they were taking the steps / deck down, I think they just removed them. Didn't repair or replace.
@@gbrickcommercialre so you walk out back and plunge to the ground? They must have put a set of steps up. I’d like to see what they did.

i'm guessing that didn't get finished
I know this is old but how the heck could she ever think this was acceptable in any way. How could she even live in a house like that.
The most horrifying thing was that the owner actually thought everything was great.
I don’t understand why they always put beds in front of the windows ??? It blocks the light and the view and makes the rooms smaller !
How can anybody think that this is in a sellable state?
Why would anyone place their bed against the window!?
No idea. I hate not being able to stand by the window & see out.
I see so many of the interior decorators do that. I will never do it. I will feel so exposed.
The only house I have seen on this program that was made up nicely but then after all this work and extra money was spent to accept under the asking that was a big mistake.
What about the missing back porch and the yard? Do people not look at that? I wouldn't buy a house that had no back steps or a nasty back yard.
Didn’t think much for that agent. Doesn’t sound like she gave the owner any useful direction.
5 years and NO upkeep.
Really nice change. Looks beautiful. She and her daughters are beautiful. Maybe this will inspire her to make her next home as beautiful as they are.
The owner clearly forgot that she wasn't a tenant anymore; not maintaining the exterior, decor/furniture choices, etc.

Right. I've seen so many tenants trash the landlord's property but never thought they would do the same to their own.
960 sq ft?? Can’t imagine. I’m in Florida with 2600 sq ft. Spoiled. This young woman is amazing, she made the place is amazing.
what happened to the back yard porch?
I like that they left a dresser in the bedroom. Shows that it can fit.
She's in marketing and didnt think that the front of the house mattered...................................

She said she bought it when it was not in the best condition. So she thought someone else would do the same.
'In our minds everything looks great'. 😳😬🧐
Great real estate agent! 👍
Well Done!
Under asking price? Why?
What a dump. They think it's fine.
Can't believe people would expect someone to buy their mess for top dollar! Shame on you Gail.
She needs to check into her thyroid. A serious thyroid issue.
why not paint the downspout on front porch?
Very nice I didn't like the floral dining chairs, or the livingroom funiture, but it looked great again she beats Sarah Richardson!
What about the back porch?
Gail's eyes! Wow. Such big eyes.
Diana Ross has eyes like these too
I think she needs to get her thyroid checked. That can cause bulging eyes like that.
Tiny house nation great show.
275k, that's cheap. Can't find houses at that prices now.
Depends on where you live. We bought our house in 2012 for 75k.
That home looked horrible until Sophie and Anthony got hold of it. Anthony does great work. I would not want that old little place. Its too tiny.
I like the show, comprehensive and tahe the whole asoects, and I learn a lot
The living room looks like the Golden Girls
Sorry to say you never let us know how much n how long did it get to sell the house which is very disappointing ☹️
I’ve noticed sometimes they do. But I agree it would be more interesting if they did. --Susan
Omg Omg omg … I would of died if that had been my house …. This woman had her head in the sand 😳😳😳😳
Which town?

I would be afraid for my children to play outside, its dangerous.
space isn't bad, the house is not attractive at all in the interior & needs repairs

No, the participants on this show pays for the renovations. It usually works out to between $3,000 to 5,000.
@@marieslabbert6009 Labor and design help are free. They only pay for materials I believe...
They made the wallpaper work. It sold quickly.
Looks like asbestos floor at the top of the stairs 🧐
What about the back deck?
