Still buggy but less so than the original. Complex, cool, and a whole lot of content.

Great review. Hope it comes to console as well. My only complaint with the first game was you have to be at specific places at specific times or its basically game over. Does this have the same issue?
Did you really say one battle took 1 to 3 hours to complete? The first game was a boring waste of time, but this game sounds like a new level of not going to play.
RDR2 Walking The Walk, please. I’ve been waiting for that for years now. I know that’ll be a time/labour intensive video but I’d love to see it. Keep up the great work, m8.
@@kvothefan5106 From what I can tell, there is only 1 hard time limit in the game and it's for a couple (literally 2) things near the very start of the game.
@@kvothefan5106 Simple answer is no, its not like kingmaker in that way
“Yo and behold I’m krunk “ my new favorite catchphrase
Man, every time someone mentions Tyranny's story it makes me lament the rushed ending and lack of a sequel.
It sounds like this game is in better shape than the first was at launch, so it seems like a safe bet they'll have it polished up in a reasonable amount of time. Thanks for the review, as always.
O God yes. That game was so glorious that the ending is a big letdown
Tyranny could have been one of the best games of all time too :/ it's an IP I'd like to buy and fix (someday)
Totally agree about the Tyranny comments. It's probably my favorite Obsidian game after, of course, Fallout New Vegas.
Is there mods to fix Tyranny?
@@adrowsypoet is there mods for it.
Can we just talk about how great "yo and behold, I'm crunk" is. I really want to use this line irl.
"Hang with me shorty, the orks in the porty, lets explore the back forty."
@@ACGreviews WOW hahaha props
Something that I realized in kingmaker, and is one of this series greatest strengths, was the devs really made you want to use your various skills and spells. Pillars was really fun, but half of the abilities in that game felt like fluff or never needed. Pathfinder, if you aren't buffing your party and debuffing the enemies, you're gonna have a rough time. Feels like the devs really respect a players desire to fill their kit with useful tools.
A very helpful insight and certainly a factor in my decision to pick this game up in a month when I get some free time.
I feel like Pillars of Eternity story and worldbuilding outshine Pathfinder though. Eora would be in my personal top 5 fantasy worlds any day.
Yeah, I remember making my character in Solasta and being really confused at how a third of the skills in that game literally had the label "Is never used in the game and is just here for character roleplay".
You tend to get a lot of consumables and skills that can be ignored, just like most other RPGs. Just looking at some character abilities and cantrips, I can't imagine they'll ever be needed.
A few hours in and I have far more scrolls and potions than I'll ever need, it's just a lot of bloat. Which seemingly every RPG developer struggles with.
I agree. Pillars feels more "artistic" if that's the right word than Pathfinder. Pathfinder I think is the better technical game. To be fair, Pathfinder spells are mostly cribbed from D&D 3rd edition, so they've been playtested quite a bit. The Pillars spells need refining for sure.
Nothing is more fun than roleplaying as a necromancer, choosing the lich mythic path, letting your party members die, and being able to resurrecting them, and they actually come back as undead bc of your lich mythical abilities.
I'm role-playing my 2nd playthrough as doctor strange Aeon, being able to use time magic and change the path of the story. (Example being instead of the queen going back to her kingdom in act 2, you can influence her to be apart of your army, hidden in plain sight.)
Considering that Kingmaker after it was patched to actually work brought me back to the golden age of CRPGs better than any of the games that tried it, Wrath of the Righteous was high on my radar and I'm really happy that this time it's actually playable on release. Preloading already :)
Super excited for this! They really turned the first one around after an abominable launch so glad to hear things are cleaner and more accessible this time. Good stuff as always ACG
Beyond surprised you reviewed this. Major time sink. Thank you for this👍🏾
Just want to say I appreciate that you reviewed this just because I know how much of a time sink it must have been. Much respect!
Bro your scripting and delivery is godlike. Listening to you is a treat. Thanks for the upload.
Loved the review, haven't listened for a few reviews so not sure if it has been mentioned. But the pace you speak at in the one is so much easier for me to follow and listen too!
The main reason I stopped listening to ACG reviews so often was because he speaks too fast. I left constructive feedback on a review a few years ago and got quite a rude response from ACG, which still irks me to this day. But this review is much, much better as you say.
@@GamingRobioto do you remember which video it was ? Curious to what he said haha
Going through my first run as a holy dual wielding paladin with the mythic angel path. Having a ton of fun as is and glad to hear that it lasts.
Just started playing and I’m loving it so far. I’m playing cavalier and find it hilarious and terrifying to ride around indoors cleaving people in half while my horse bites people.
Sure.....
It's also worth mentioning that the game is extremely rewarding for those who understand its mechanics. Using a few spells from your arsenal, positioning on a battlefield and adjusting your builds and party composition can be the difference between savescumming and glorious victory without a scratch. In most of the other games (e.g. aforementioned Tyranny), you find something powerful enough and stick to it, without actually adjusting your tactics and party composition. It's not the case for Pathfinder on any difficulty higher than Normal. At first, you'll be confused by the abundance of options available to you, but when you understand the mechanics, it will give you such creative freedom and satisfaction!
I recently bought kingmaker but not before scouring youtube for ACG review of the Game. Helas the Bard had not composed a Tale of the KM.
Glad he's doing this one.
Fantastic review. I'll get this eventually :) I just started Kingmaker last week. I figure after several months of patches, balance fixes, bug fixes, this will be even smoother to dive in to.
I do love playing paladines
DINE WITH ME TONIGHT
@@ACGreviews Buy, Rent, or wait for a Saleadine
@@applecrow8 As a medieval nerd, I immediately thought of Saladin (Richard I Vs. Saladin of the 2nd Crusade).
If so... yes I think everything is improved with a Saladin.
Same. My first build here is a pali monk. There's about two other palis in the game but I don't care lols
I had backed this project on kickstarter bc Kingmaker was great despite some issues.
The problem with auto-leveling is that you leave yourself with no other option but to keep sliding that difficulty slider further and further to easier difficulties, but if you just want to experience the story, then maybe that’s good enough for you.
I didn't play the first game but heard good things. This review really helped me see why it's worth getting. As always, thanks for a fantastic review!
"Jumps between fantasy and modern language"
So, it's a Terry Pratchett novel. Lmfao
Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous seems like an enjoyable experience, despite a few bugs here and there. Its been a while since I've played a game like this so I'll have to give it a shot. Thanks as always Karak for another great review!
You've always got a video on a game I'm unsure about, absolutely love it :)
The way he pronounces Paladin hurts my soul, otherwise love this review lol.
That and "vice-a versa"
Yeah, what is a Paladine? Lol
His Paladin pronunciation is Godlike!
And archetype. Starting to think he reads someone else's copy
just wait until you hear how everyone pronounces 'lich' in divinity original sin
Honestly I watch your videos because nobody writes a review like u do. Unique voice, good for writers, like myself, to hear. 👍
Damn, that hit at 18:49 turned that demon into a huge serving of sashimi!
Glad you can actually cleave people into pieces as opposed to only ragdolling or exploding them.
...wish I could turn off explosion kills when somebody kills with a crit from a fencing thrust. That always looks absurd.
But man, the first time your guy with a 2-hander swings it and two heads, one arm and one torso start flying from three enemies... so satisfying.
Thanks for this. The bugs sound manageable. As for graphics, I don't want my CRPGs to be photo realistic. Sometimes a lot of expense is incurred to show a CGI person I don't need to see - or even enjoy watching if the writing/directing/acting feels wrong.
Baldur's Gate III is walking that fine line there...
That's why different games exist, some people find cartoon graphics to be less immersive. And when I say some, I mean the vast majority.
The bugs are pretty bad, I've ran into hundreds. From items that look like they shouldn't even be obtainable to the crusade defense banner being eternally red no matter what to massive performance degradation, bugs are everywhere. Most of them are minor nuisances but the red banner is potentially a game breaking bug depending on how you play, others have ran into other game breaking bugs such as save file corruption and even one class apparently isn't even playable because it breaks the game.
I'm loving the game btw, if I have one complaint it's that there is a bit too much micro managing which drags the game out way too much, it can turn into a slog to play later on.
@@Sekiberius24 Ive had 1 item bug, a couple times the camera briefly got stuck, but literally nothing else and im 30hrs in. But yeah its amazing, bg3 blew my mind at first but now im pretty anxious about where larian is gonna take it. Would have much rather it looked worse in exchange for more content
@@bofad6074 BG3 content is fine, since they are trying to polish engine and gameplay for now. This is only Act1, so hold on.
Between this and BG3 - if you had to choose one - I'm torn, help me out?
Wait wait if you gotta jump to Tyranny for a more engaging/ deep story I'm pretty sure the story is pretty good.
I consider Tyranny and it's world a one of kind, it might be decades before we ever see something similar if ever.
Akin to vampires the masquarade bloodlines, something we'll likely never have again.
I guess I gotta keep playing that. It didn't grab me but I'm willing to give it more time.
I agree, some of the choices that Tyranny gave to the player shows how the dev team had a lot of courage, since some would get them in hot water nowadays.
@@mr350znismo7 No game is for everyone, but Tyranny is unique in it's story, setting and characters.
You start as a very powerful character, I mean you can archons to attention which are generals of entire armies/battlegroups.
Evil is so incredibly well done in that game. It shows how evil is more often bureaucratic and almost self explanatory, as in being good just costs much more effort. It's such a true to reality sort of evil.
The ending and later acts are a bit of a let down, but it's well worth it.
I mean the starting portion of the game will decide most of the game and when making choices you'll never see entire sections of the game, pretty rare in games for obvious reasons.
Ironic, as I hold up Tyranny as one of the worst RPGs I've ever played, on the level of Elex. But either way! I have great hopes for WotR and will dedicate my evening and weekend to it!!!
@@Kammereer One of the worst? How so? It's story is unlike any RPG I know off.
Anything but the let's be real cookie cutter stories of Pillars, Dinivity and such.
Don't get me wrong I like both those games' stories and quests they just aren't very unique.
Paladines? Paladins? Have I always been pronouncing it wrong, or you? :P
Good review. Game is much like Kingmaker, then. Too complex for me, I'm afraid. My 2 year old's nap-time would be over before I managed to create my character and actually start the game lol.
It’s not you, man ;)
Paàaaaallllaaaaaadiiiiiinnnn
Great to see they improved their game launch, even with the bugs. Can't wait to pick up the game after I finally finish Kingmaker.
I have *never* heard anyone pronounce Paladin as 'Pala-dine' so I dunno how you'd think it's said that way. Thanks for the review, will wait till it comes down in price a bit while FF14 is keeping me busy :)
"And, lo, 'twas time for mine pimp hand to bring forth malevolent ruin upon harlots both near and far"
This game, allegedly.
Was really hoping you would review this one. Thanks again karak awesome as always
Pillars got patched, broke more stuff and then they said 'Yeaaaah, we're not patching this anymore. Later!'
Scummy. And I love Pillars.
Looking forward to your next Walking the Walk!! So many people talk about video games online yet very few about environment and setting in a way that does justice to those games (I.e. the Mad Max WtW)
Been looking forward to this one and to hear it’s not too buggy makes me happy, got the last one after it’s launch and a few patches so I didn’t experience the supposed horrors of that launch but man, I’m looking forward to this as I continue to enjoy my way back into CRPGS. Honestly owe it to your reviews as part of the reason why too man, really love the honesty you have with these games
This is how a review should be done. Well made
yo ACG great review dude... I discovered that corruption go's away completely when you go to a chapel in town and go to the glowing thingy!!!
There's something I really like in their movements, incredibly smooth.
Not usually into games like this but this one looks fun, will wait for a sale to see if I want to pick it up!
I do think they should have more face and hair options. They could do an expansion pack later and address this.
I'm having a blast with this, about 15 hours in. Pathfinder Kingmaker I also enjoy but it has a very different vibe.
I've got 3+ days played on one save and just started two more to see some mythic paths. You'll get your money's worth for sure.
Something isn't right... you didn't say "wassup everyday it's carrot from ACG"
Love that Traveling Willburys reference.
Gotta play the first game but I’ve got wrath of the righteous high on my radar! Looking forward to it!!!
Play Wrath first, it just a better version of Kingmaker.
I agree, play wrath first you will have a better time, specially as a begginer. Its also not a sequel, go ham
Wrath is a better game imho I dropped the first while I'm hooked on this.
@@_Khalmyr_ Is it beginner friendly like
@@utsavbasu1048 Wrath its more beginner friendly imho, it explains things to you way better. Also, the stories are completely unrelated so it doesn't matter which order you play them in.
truly the BEST review that I have seen ! well done ! very balanced and detailed !
Love this game! A clear favorite! Great build possibilities and story with awesome music. Really nice you can swap between turn and real combat. And a challenge that easily can be easier or harder.Higly recommended!
10:35 The thumbs up and down in feat (and spell) selection was in Kingmaker
I appreciate your reviews. Could I suggest you slow down the pace of your review? Your viewers will process, absorb, and value your work even more.
that "corruption not going away" issue was why i quit kingmaker. couldnt get rid of my injuries no matter how much i rested
And resting is sooooo boring. Give me the superior Divinity 3 instead of new inferior D&D type games.
I want to see that gnome build. Great review as always
Sold, that's the review I was waiting for. Peace!
Great review, def picking this up based off your comments. I fell in love when I saw a difficulty level that just allowed me to add more kobolds to an encounter without them all of a sudden hitting me like Thor holding Mjolnir.
you're such a good reviewer.
Me @4:52 wtf? Is that a.. triceratops?. Wow, that escalated quickly lol
Pathfinder character customization is the biggest appeal of the tabletop for me and I'm glad they tried to recreate that in the game. Now only if I could recreate my gunslinging, elvis impersonating paladin...
Karak, your similes are so accurate and so funny!
Been waiting for this title in particular. Looking forward to fully dive in this game in a couple of hours when it launches, since it's my most anticipated game this year.
I already preloaded and now I am bidding my time. Thanks for the review Karak! :D
Bought it. No regrets, warts and all. What a fun experience!
Awesome review as usual Karak but I just gotta say...the way you pronounce "Paladin" makes my nerd soul weep in anguish.
Another really excellent review. Always look forward to your videos.
nowhere near done with kingmaker yet but im already looking forward to when this comes to console.
Pillars did get patched for Switch, but the publisher basically gave up after a couple of patches and as far as I know, is still at least somewhat broken.
I attempted to play it again on Switch fairly recently. Basically, the further you progress into the game, the worse it gets, up to a point where it'll take literal minutes just to load your save and it becomes pretty much unplayable. :(
I'm really enjoying the game. Feels like a modern version of BG1 & 2, well worth the $49
This was a fantastic review! In the end I decided not to buy based on "confusing quest logs". Most people don't want a quest marker telling them where to go all the time, but personally nothing frustrates me more in a game than getting lost and confused and not knowing how to progress the story when I'm ready to. Divinity 2 was terrible with that kind of thing, and if pathfinder is more of that then I'm certainly not paying full price. Maybe it'll be super discounted sometime and then I'll see if it frustrates me.
Anyway I appreciate a good honest game reviewer.🙂👍
Pillars did get patched on the switch, a couple of huge updates came out to fix the game and it's noticeably better after those.
Really liked the first game, they let you import your own custom images for character art.
They still do
All of these types of games do. Pillars, Baldur's Gate, Pathfinder, etc.
I love this game because of how much it reminds me of the Pillars of Eternity series, kudos to both games developers
I will definitely check it out I enjoyed the first pathfinder game and was really curious about this one.
Thank you for this review. A given purchase and a perfect game for the lazy holidays.
Great review as usual!
I loved Divinity, wasn't a super big fan of Pillars. May have to give this a shot.
Right now you can pick this game up and the original for 5 bucks a pop and it’s well worth it at that price. If you are big into D&D I don’t honk you would need much convincing this is pretty close to the pathfinder board game
Never even heard of this series, but looks like something right up my alley. I'll give it a few months for patching, but looks promising.
In the mean time check out Pathfinder Kingmaker, one of the best CRPGs out there, perhaps even rivalling BG2. It's absolutely fantastic.
@@Nergal134 really? BG2 is in my top 5 games of all time.
@@mattspeer01 I never played BG so I can't help with the comparison, but I can vouch for Kingmaker being fantastic
@@mattspeer01 It's hugely ambitious and received a bit a bad first glance because of a multitude of game-breaking bugs at launch but the experience has been smoothened out, they've even added a Turn-based mode for those who are interested in it.
Some people or outlets have made the claim that Pathfinder Kingmaker, in ambition, scope and writing, is the spiritual successor to BG2. I'm not versed in BG2 enough (I played and liked it this year) to make that claim but I do think Kingmaker is among the best of the genre.
Whether you do like or dislike Pathfinder kingmaker. I wouldn't judge this one too much based on that. Many who didn't like Kingmaker did enjoy the Beta of Wrath of the righteous and vice versa.
ACG BBY THE BEST GAMING REVIEW CHANNEL LETS GOOOOOO!! HIT THAT BELL BABY!
portrait art is what allows me to accept the graphics/ woeful character customization
We need more games like these and Baldur's Gate 3. The market is plagued with linear games that these games that allow for freedom of choices and with the accompanying consequences are a breath of fresh air.
I feel like a lot of these reviews undersell just how much reading you're gonna be doing. And not reading that goes down smooth... this is HIGH fantasy.
I really like your Reviews. Keep them going man. Liked and have been a sub for awhile. Do you call them "Pa" "la" "dines" on purpose to trigger those of us who are OCD? ("Pa" "la" "dins") :D
I enjoyed Pathfinder Kingmaker with mods, think i will wait for the modders to do their thing before i buy it thou.
A gnome going throught a midlife crisis and then changing his entire life and class sounds like something a gnome in Golarion would do.
This lad knows how to stave off the Bleaching.
Wow, I didn’t know refill can be a companion. I attacked him when I first met him in that cave
You got me second guessing how to say Paladin... I always thought it was Pal-uh-din not Pal-uh-dyn
Its Cluric, Burd, PalaDINE, Fughter, Thuff, Spuhlcaster
In case you're more confused after that reply, it's definitely "Paladin" not "Paladine".
It's a weird pronunciation that I've seriously never even heard someone use before.
@@mjay6245 Can't tell if serious or completely lost
@@ACGreviews I’m lost
A Necromancer Bard who can sing so bad they raise the dead could have it's own show on Netflix.
I can't believe they put the amount of character classes in this one. Some of the spells had to be changed because this is a non GM run game but they organized everything to not overwhem a player to learn new classes.
Anyone who's playing D&D, this Pathfinder game module has "epic level" mechanics. This also has one of its best weapons as the "Holy Avenger" with plenty of demons so I recommend at least having one Paladin in the group.
First Russian in comments for a Russian game) definitely like for a video, thank you.

I suggest you install on an SSD, there is alot of instanced load screens and I also saw a pretty major fps boost.
I'll probably be waiting for a sale (and for when I have more time) to pick this one up. I really enjoyed Kingmaker, though a decent part of that was the kingdom management that seems to have been swapped out for Heroes of Might and Magic in this one.
The dice roll is busted still. Forcefully prolonging fights. It's frustrating
cool reviiew, thanks Karak! but pala-dine?
Is that a mini mammoth companion!? Ok, I'm definitely gonna get this game. Though I usually wait for all the expansions to come out for the full experience.
I,ll sweeten it for you:
That mammoth will become HUGE at later levels. And you can ride it around.
I'm six and a half hours in the game.
I've decided upon a portrait and the class I shall be playing.
Choosing race is next.
necromancer bard honestly sounds like a fun rp run lul
You had me at hearing James Marsters speak
It's still 3 hours from release :/
Tks God they didn't use 2e rules.
Pillars never got fixed on switch - after months of weird gaslight stuff on Reddit and discord (developers claiming to be happy customers among other things) and claiming nintendo ate their homework, publisher versus evil and the gulag developers they subcontracted the port out to broke the game even further and then admitted they couldn’t be bothered to work on it any more.
PS Plus brought me here. Also, ACG is the best reviewer out there.
