- My Favorite Train Song of all time is "Lincoln Avenue. Yes Pat Monahan did write this song about Lincoln Avenue in Erie, PA Before he moved west and was just trying to get a break, he lived in a second floor apartment just down from 8th street. This is one of the songs Pat would add to a set list so I could hear him sing it, and record it. One summer night after watching Pat play in Washington DC I was at the bluff at the foot of Lincoln Avenue watching the sunset. An older couple who was spending there retirement sailing around the great lakes had stopped in Erie and were having a picnic on the grass. They had a small cd player and they were playing Lincoln Avenue over and over. I assumed they knew Pat or at least knew the songs history. So I started talk to them only to learn that this spot at the foot of Lincoln avenue in Erie, Pa was one of their favorite stops on their Sailing tour. They loved the song and loved this spot for a sunset ! They were shocked to learn that this was the real location that Pat had written the song about. I walked them up the street to 8th and Lincoln and showed them the outside of his apartment an then had a spaghetti dinner at Avanti's restaurant. It was so awesome to see how this retired couple from Michigan made a connection to one of our own and his music and had no clue that the song and the sunset brought them together at the place it was truly intended for. Enjoy Pat singing Lincoln avenue on St Patricks day 2004 at the Warner Theater.
