I own the D20. It’s my stage guitar and in a mix of two electrics, a bass, set of drums and sometimes 7 vocalists singing at the same time, it cuts through as it is the main rhythm ax in the mix. It’s a monster!! I love it and will never part with it. I have 5 other axes including a Gibson J45, and it would go before the Guild.
A friend of mine has a d20. I have a d15M. Both are 2022-ish models. I played his d20 and decided to get one of those before I got the Martin. The d20 I got didn’t sound as good as his so I ordered the d15m. Fantastic neck and it sounds great. I still don’t think it sounds as good as my friend’s d20 but still a great acoustic. The tone in his d20 is huge but my d15m has a great tone of its own.
I have both of these. They really are great guitars that are under $2000.00. The Martin has a 1 11/16" nut width instead of the 1 3/4" like you would expect. The Martin handles 13s very well, so it is loud. I don't dare put mediums on the Guild. The top can't take it. I use HD Lights on it. Both guitars play and sound great.
The Guild has a 12" fretboard radius and a 1 & 11/16" nut width. The Martin has a flatter 16" fretboard radius and a 1 & 3/4" nut width. For those reasons I own the Guild. For the same reasons you might own the Martin. They both improve with age of course.
Hi Sal, you just discovered a secret that I discovered a few months ago. The D-20 is a fantastic guitar. Only downsides are the smaller nut (not a problem for me) and, this is a big one, it's BIG. Bigger even than a Martin D. But the sound is mesmerizing. I want to play a 000-15sm and after that I'll decide between the two. I know the 000-15sm wont be as resonate but the smaller body and larger nut may sway me in that direction. Have fun with it!
I own the D20 and will never give it up. Not to say BOTH aren't great guitars. They clearly are. But Cordoba has done everything to bring back the classic Guild sound with added bass. Jealous you have both guitars though! I string the Guild up with Daddario NB 12s and added bone pins.
Do you still own the j-45 all mahogany? a comparison of these three would be interesting. Playability? Sound? Which guitar for which purpose? i own a D15 and never had the chance zu play a d20 oder j45 all mahagony .. and i like your songs !!! Andreas / Würzburg / Germany
i still have the D15 :) It is still my favorite Martin dread - and even so over the pricier ones i have owned. If you do like/want more volume though, the Guild is louder than the Martin D15, and a little brighter. Its kind of the "I want an all mahogany guitar but i want it to sound more like a D18"

I love how these simple chords sound so rich. Very mood enhancing.
Great guitars!
The D15 sounds more mellow, but the D20 has the edge in volume. Especially when you fingerpicked “Freight Train.” Two sweet guitars.

D20 for me all day! Thanks for video.

Hi 👋🙂Is there a noticeable difference by changing bridge pins to bone?
@@Siimeon98 There is no universal answer except there always is when changing from plastic. Ingrneral I use bone or Buffalo horn.

I don’t own that J-45 Mahogany anymore. I have had it programmed into my search for over two years on reverb… trying to replace it!
I owned an all mahog. Hated it.
New California Guilds are killers. BTW, Martin 000-15SM strums great. Lots of presence and volume
Guild for the win
D20 beats it out of the park but then I am biased in favour of my Guild
Guild takes it for mine .Martin sounds good also
Having a tough time deciding between these two. Is there one you like better and would recommend?

To clarify - I find the Martin a little warmer and sweeter, And it doesn't compete with my voice.
What are the songs you play in this video? Thanks
The first song is America’s I Need You, and the second is a freight Train… thanks
Thanks, that first one seemed so familiar but I just couldn't put a finger on it. Well played sir.

Martin sounds like a toy
