I'm a new subscriber and just started watching the Yugo series. I bought one in the late 80s. The engine was blown up so I had to replace it. I don't know if you are aware at this point, but Yugo's use a Fiat drive train. I ended up putting a Fiat X19, 128 engine in mine. It had a progressive 2bbl Weber carb on it. it was quite peppy with the engine upgrade. I drove it for many years before selling it. I always thought they got a bad rap as being the worst car ever made. They really weren't that bad. You've got to remember that the price tag made it very desirable to lower income families. Lower income most often leads to less maintenance, and those little1.1's needed the oil changed often, or the camshafts wore out really quickly. Any way I'm a fan.
The wiper switch on the dash controls the rear wiper/washer, the stalk on the right side of the steering column is for windshield wipers (two speed only IIRC, no intermittent). Pull to activate the squirter ;)
Features thats being generous....they gave you a fancy jack position because they knew you would need it ...great vid I learned things .. now I just need to find my own to apply said knowledge..THANKS 😅
You need to get a t-shirt that says "I drive a Yugo" you should stuck one of those 3.5 honda odyssey engines in it. Cheap and plenty of them out there.
Bas3 of hatch traps water inside. Exhaust downpipe shears on bend. Had 1.1 ohc 5spd would pull at 80 up hill but shake like a washer on full spin. Fun car when get used to. Had double tail lights & oblong spots in front grill.
I thought those things were correct wheel drive, that's very unfortunate it's front wheel drive. Anyway, the spare tire area looks like a great space for a turbo and some piping? What will go first, the transaxle or the engine? I think the transaxle will meet its untimely demise first with boost. That thing will eventually need the Uncle Tony treatment and cut the fire wall out when you convert to correct wheel drive.
Since this is like a 1.0 l engine a lot of manufacturers like Buick and ford are producing like 1.3L 3cylinder engines that are turbo charged so instead of like 50 ho you’ll have like 130 hp
@@OldeCarrGuy Parts support for Fiats is excellent. Someone in Italy or the Eastern Bloc has hot rodded this motor. Or an E-Bay turbo -it is about the same displacement as a Harley and they have cheap turbo or blower kits.
with covid prices you might be able to get your 3995 for it out front ,which would be saying somethin , if a Yugo can make it back to dealer invoice there is hope for anything ,congrats on 8k
I suggest get rid of all the smog crap, then go ask around facebook for some Fiat savvy people to help you, to my knowledge the 1.1l can be bored and upgraded to a 1.5l. You should also get rid of all the a/c components as they eat up a lot of power, I'll buy it off you as well
If you are changing the engine find a Honda CBR1000RR or any super sport bike it already has the same size engine in it I think it would fit perfectly and it would be a SS Yugo lol
'YugoTube'.. love it.
I think I’ll count that one! Thanks for watching George.

I was thinking it was maybe the nitrous bottle?
@@baconfarts3211 I was thinking it was a starter fluid bottle for cold weather...oh wait, this is a Yugo...make that all the time.
Not a factory item, someone added whatever that is there.
Yugo will do 120-130 km/h easily on the highway all day long. Later models had a reverse built in next to the turn signal between license plate light.
I plan to utilize one of the license plate lights as a reverse light. Get rigs of those hideous fogs hanging off the rear bumper. 😂
@@OldeCarrGuy We had those too back home in the early models but we only had 1 .

lol! So what your saying is, wearing the shirt would trump physically driving one?
I remember being too small for the back street of my friends Dad''s Yugo. I was 9. Granted I was really tall but.....
Heck yeah! It's in good shape. That engine bay will be a tough fit for another engine.
Definitely gonna be a challenge!
My uncle drived it 100mph. His Yugo was a monster
Top speed on this was 88mph! I'm in the process of an engine swap now! Check it out!
Nice video, new subscriber here. Mr. Mortske Repair sent me. Greetings and salutations and such!
Awesome, thank you!
It looks like a fire extinguisher, brass refillable hand pump version
I have since come to that same conclusion.
Yugo the car that out lasted the country it was built in.
Actually, the Yugo factory was bombed by NATO in the early 90’s. Yugoslavia fell apart that same year!
@@OldeCarrGuy But that car lasted longer than the country.
How do you get at the fan belt?
From the passenger front wheel well!

I wouldn't mind a 360 view of that..valve on canister thing.. If I had to guess.. Maybe a tire inflater...or AC freeon refiller?
I’ll get some pictures an post it on Instagram and Facebook
The tire does actually help on absorbing impact from a crash
Just b sure to remove it when ppl do crash it so when u get it down to cemetery size, she'll go in fine. Especially if tge gas tank explodes.
These had scary bad crash test scores. You were likely to Die in a 35 mph wreck.
Fire extinguisher?
That’s my guess!
$3990? Wow! I just spent that getting my Yugo running..

I thought they bought tooling for a discontinued model from Fiat .
Kinda, but not really. It was a collaborative effort between the two!
They made a similar chasis to a Fiat 127, with the same Fiat 950cc engine. Later versions had 1.1 and 1.3 engine from Fiat 128(same as Zastava 101)
