The only thing I use for hogs is Hornady Black, 300 Blackout, 110 grain V-Max @2375 fps. Every hog I've shot was between 80 yards to 110 yards. If you hit them anywhere in front of the diaphragm the drop right where they were standing! I've never had a passthrough. Its only got 1378 fpe at the muzzle, but it drops every ounce of energy in the hog! I have a friend that uses a 270 Win Mag and every one he shoots he spends 2 hours blood trailing it! I'm 78 years old. I like to shoot them and drive down and start dressing them! Don't waste time tracking them!
Great stuff! Definitely fixed when it comes to broad heads, at least in my experience. I've had too many hogs destroy mechanical broad heads, even smaller hogs.
I think they are pretty easy to drag, and I like stalking the best so I’ve kind of perfected it. Number 1 wind. Number 2 time of day. 3 your motion vs noise ratio, some noise ok but making constant noise and not listening will keep you hungry. They make more noise if they are up than you do trying to be quiet. As far as motion they will probably see you first in thick stuff which means you should still be using magnification even though you can only see 20 yards. You can see an eyeball through the trees wondering what you are in that 20 yards too… from far out in the open you pretty much gotta be doing jumping jacks for them to care. I’ve had decent camo on and put myself in front of them before and have had them carelessly walk to 20’ in front of me standing in the middle of a trail. If you’re still you’re invisible. 4 .30 cal… 5 a drag system. I stopped using a sled a long time ago. Now I just tie them up streamline. Then have thick plastic wrap made into a garbage bag size bag with a hole for just the snout. You can make them with a cheap hair straightener. They glide once you put them in one of those then fold the two corners up by the head and tape them to the top. 6 location, if they are there then fine. But if it’s an un hunt-able spot. (Too thick) you can’t be making a bunch of noise and be successful so either cut trails and go back later or go somewhere else. That’s my stalking .02
I used both colors & they both work on the hogs in my area. The green is just easier for the human’s eye to pick up the contrast against a hog IMO. As long as the wind is in your face you’ve gotta chance.
So we just got a green hog flood light and I’m about to get a laser for our hunting. My question is how well does the green laser show up in those lighting conditions? I prefer the green laser from my limited exposure but I’ve never owned one. Thoughts?
Late to the party.. but... When you shoot a hog and knock it down, stay in the scope. A quick followup shot if they get back up is hard to do if you're mid-celebration.
I seen hogs at my farm and put corn out they come out eat it and I haven't seen any since August but I do see signs of them routing what's the best bait to put out for them to keep coming back
Corn, grape kool aid, jello, sugar & a few old beers…fill with water in a bucket (poke hole in lid so gas may escape), let it sour & put it out. Set up a tactacam & watch em come. If you want to make it a permanent location, dig a deep hole with post hole diggers & fill with the sour corn.
Respectfully, strongly disagree on arrow shot placement. Behind the ear, IN the ear or side-profile headshot, and use a hard field tip/target tip, or if you must… you can use a fixed broadhead. I’ve been doing this for a living now for 11 years. I get about 500 hunters a year, from all over the country/world. About 10% of them are Bow Hunters. Their success rate is generally about 10% (meaning the hog is down, dead and in the cooler) if they go for the traditional torso shots. If they heed my advice on shot placement, their success rate jumps to about 70%!
@@2dollab178I used to live in coffee city, on lake Palestine. My little brother has some land in frankston, and I cannot count the times we’ve had to stop on the side of the road, and wait for huge, 100 pig sounders to cross. If you hit one of them, they get extremely angry with you. lol. Had one almost flip the ranger I was driving once. Picked the front end off the ground. Lmao! But if you cracked a window, and popped a small one with a .22, if they didn’t eat it, themselves, you could come home with dinner. 😂
How do you know if it’s a good hog for the meat here in west tx I know lots of folks that won’t butcher them bcuz they say they carry lots of disease??
Truthfully, we’ve never worried too much about it. The smaller to medium sized hogs are usually the ones that taste a little bit better though. Although, if they look too nasty and beaten up sometimes we won’t eat them.
So, I'm actually considering a business idea and possibly seeking MINIMUM amounts in government grants if it's available hunt on public property and also even on corporate property for a minimum fee. as I REALLY like the meat and think I could profit from personally selling the including sausage. Am I crazy or what do y'all think about this?🤓
Great ideas and thanks, we chase the hugs with trained dogs, they only chase the big hugs, be interesting if you guys watch a few of our hunting videos of different species of deer and especially our "pig hunting" as we call it in Kiwiland. With greetings and best regards from faraway land of New Zealand,, Tony.
Hello guys im in east texas on 14.5 acres with a railroad in the back. I heard there's pigs here but I really haven't seen any evidence of there presence. I baited with corn and not much activity. I'd like to lure them in, as well as deer. Any advice or tips thanks guys great video
Make a sloppy fermented bucket of corn. -5 Gallon Bucket -Fill 2/3 with corn -A packet of yeast or two -Red/strawberry coolaid powder -Add about a gallon of water, or enough to make a stir-able slurry. -Add lid to bucket with a vent hole. -Let stand for a week (stir occasionally and wear mask/hold breath when doing so🤢) - Use Shovel or Post-Hole digger to dig several holes in desired areas. Holes should be about 20-24” Deep X 8-10” Wide. - Fill hole/s with stinky fermented corn about 90%, back fill with dirt/debris. - Spread nasty liquid and some corn on the surface in the areas. If you can, get some of the scent up on some branches or trees.(You want the scent to be picked up and carried by the wind if possible). - Let the hogs a few free meals of this bait before shooting any. They’re going to love the smell but they are skittish by nature and will break/run easily if pressured. After a few nights of free delicious nastiness… smoke em’!

What do y’all think about a 243 /95 gr as a caliber for hogs ??
Should do the trick! All about shot placement though. We prefer head shots for easy tracking!!!
Depends the size of the hog. I use 22 mag. I've dropped hogs head shots. 160# sow went right down.

Or just buy hog wild and mix it with corn and make a hole it’s simpler
Oh, well there you go.
Do you know of a hog hunting outfit for tourists like me?
Hoge holle, 11 out of 9 hunters swear by it!
So NOT m855 lol

Pigs are one of the smartest land animals. They are smarter than dogs.
Stay on your own property. Fix it the way you like for hunting!!
