    I have been running this unit 6 months now. I'm happy with it. The fan does run more than I'm use to. The remote panel is great.

    Hopefully they have a better reputation than the rest of the current Xantrex product line!

      Reliability is so important in the marine sector, we need our products to work.

      @@PacificYachtSystems agreed, hopefully Xantrex is getting better as for years they were known for being cheap and failing often.

    Hi Jeff, your content is awesome.
    I need to replace my (very old) Xantrex Freedom and I´m just between a XC Pro unit and the Victron Multiplus.
    A year later, do you have some comments or recommendations to share about your XC unit?

    I just got done installing the xc pro 3000. The web site says it support RV-C but i don't see a port for it. Any idea how to get to the RV-C communcations?

    Another great video Jeff. I will be installing a Freedom XC Pro 3000 next summer. The previous owner had a Freedom 20 (1999) installed in the engine bay (big NO NO) that was not used. The batteries both house & starter/generator are now being charged by a 30A Charles charger.
    The manual for the XC PRO talks about a separate neutral bus for the shore power connection to the XC. I'm not sure what they mean? I was expecting (inverter) black to breaker, white to neutral bus and green to a ground bus at the main panel and similar from the shore power side.
    Do you have a diagram showing what they mean?
    PS I want to be one of those 1-2% of the boaters who's inverter is installed properly...just to see your reaction some day when you come back to Waterloo...lol
    Cheers,
    Rich

    Jeff, thanks for the presentation and it is great that companies are starting to think more about integrations of systems using NMEA2000. The only thing that is starting to worry me is that I will need to plan for the vessel build / installation with be the present limits on the number of devices and the bandwidth of NMEA2000. I have been told that a new standard is being developed but ETA unknown

    • @PacificYachtSystems
      @PacificYachtSystems  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      NMEA 2000 networks can easily handle 30 devices. Your right, there are limitations with N2K, but i have yet to see one boat where this has become an issue. Luckily for most of us the N2K network is well suited for all our needs.

    Hello xantrex guys. Is there a huge difference between the freedom SW line and the Xantrex 818-2010 Inv/Chgr, Freedom XC PRO?? Someone told me one is a high freq and other is a low. Low being the one that will last longer and work more reliably? Please send input?

    Does this also have a heavy humming transformer as the Victron Multi?
    Do the fans run all the time or only under larger loads?

    • @PacificYachtSystems
      @PacificYachtSystems  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question, to my knowledge all inverters create heat that needs to be dissipated, especially if the inverter load is substantial in relation to the size of the inverter. This heat is dissipated with a fan. To me, the sound of this fan is totally reasonable. Can anyone else comment?

    Can I assume this is only for a house bank application since it only has the single pair of 12v hookups? I'd still have to have a charger for the genset and starter batteries, right?

    • @PacificYachtSystems
      @PacificYachtSystems  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good one, this inverter/charger is made to be connected to one battery bank only, generally the house battery. As you mentioned, consider getting a separate charger for your engine and genset starter batteries.

      @@PacificYachtSystems could that be solved with an Automatic Charging Relay to combine the battery banks?

  • @akeromar

    Looks like a great product. Is there a reason manufacturers are not producing high output standalone chargers anymore? Other than Victron's Centaur chargers, the highest are 60amps from Promariner etc.

      Mastervolt also has some high output chargers 100a at 12v

    Have they finally figured out how to ignition protect an inverter?

    • @PacificYachtSystems
      @PacificYachtSystems  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately, this inverter, like other inverters is not ignition protected. Not sure if the problem is technical in nature or simply to keep cost down. Anyone can weigh in on this?

    At risk of raising a zombie thread...
    I have been contemplating replacing the 1.5kw inverter (which only uses its own AC plugs for output) and the 80A charger (separate device and not very close to the inverter) with this product... 9 batteries total (4 start, 4 house/inverter, and one generator start which is not connected to the others)...
    Not sure how I would work the wiring since the batteries are in separate locations (same split as their uses)...
    Also... Since you said a year ago that you were going to install on your own boat... What info is the N2K providing? Is it interactive?
    Thanks,

    • @PacificYachtSystems
      @PacificYachtSystems  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the inverter / charger should be mounted near the house bank. the DC cables need to be short. whereas the ac cables are easier to extend. I would leave the existing charger to charge the engine and gen batteries. unless they already have a 2nd charger

    Will we get a TH-cam of the install on your boat? Also, what went into your calculus to go with the 2000w version vs the 3000w version? Thanks in advance.

    • @PacificYachtSystems
      @PacificYachtSystems  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      When choosing an inverter size, consider the size of the battery bank that will run the inverter, also consider the amount of concurrent AC loads that will run at one time, and lastly consider the need for the charger size.

    I was very surprised to hear you say that Xantrex was a reputable company with a long and good history. Ten or more years ago I was interested in putting a Xantrex Inverter/Charger on my boat but EVERY comment about it was a story of failure of the unit. No one had anything good to say about them. The story always went that the user had one in the past that was great but when manufacture was off-shored to China, the quality went downhill to the point the units were terrible. I have since forgotten about Xantrex until recently. Can you speak to the bad reputation Xantrex has/had and if and how they improved the unit and their reputation?

  • @waltw1088

    How did the install go? Any updates. Looking at this unit or the Victron multipus 2K. What info does it display and can you make adjustments to menu from MFD via NMEA2K? Looking to switch my charles 50 Bat charger with inverter/charger as well as going to Lithium house on a twin OB.

    • @PacificYachtSystems
      @PacificYachtSystems  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Installs are going great, no show stoppers. No control from MFD, only info. Info like inverter voltage, DC amps, the basics.

    Jeff, great video. Appreciate your honest advice on products. I am looking to replace my current Xantrex Freedom inverter charger. If you were going to purchase an I/C over again, would you pick this Freedom XC Pro or would you consider a similar I/C from Victron? I like the amount of data provided by Victron's app and tracking my solar inputs vs. discharge. How does the panel / app from Xantrex compare?

    • @PacificYachtSystems
      @PacificYachtSystems  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      At the moment i write this, Victron definitely offers more monitoring, integration, and commissioning options then the XC Pro Marine line. It's really depends what you are looking for.

    Can this unit be powered by a on board generator that does not have sine wave output? My Freedom 3000 watt inverter charger unit can but it is 14 years old.

    • @PacificYachtSystems

      Hi Rick, good question, unfortunately never came across a generator that has a square sine wave, only seen older inverters produce a square sine wave.
