- Fret not! Tis Friday! And I've got a snazzy hat! Angeline the Baker is one of my favorite tunes, and pretty versatile, because you can play it in both G and C tuning! I'm hoping to devote some more time to the fretless in the next weeks once I finish up with school for the semester, so hopefully we can get some new techniques and more in-tune playing on our upcoming Fretless Fridays!
Let me know how the audio quality sounded to you; I've been blessed with a cool mic and tripod setup for outdoor/portable filming, and I'm still figuring out how best to set it up.

"I am fretting a little bit." Not allowed on Fretless Friday!
😄
Dropped into comments to say just that! Thank you @ZeusBrown! 😂
like the blues, you have to feel it before you can release it :)
😂
that's why she's going fretless, she got tired of fretting!
I did not notice any background noise. I do enjoy your videos so much. I'm 80 live alone in Ohio. You are sunshine in my day. Thank you Phoebe!
Have blessed day

God bless you, Mr Moose 🫎 ❤
Howdy Mr Moose
Never worry about hitting the odd duff note. A pro musician I knew used to say ‘If I don’t hit at least five wrong notes in a concert, I know I’m not trying.’ You are always authentic and you can’t buy that nowadays.
Phoebe, I hope you know how much joy you bring to all of us. You and your chickens are a treasure.
When I was a wee one my Mom and dad would sing a song that went: "My hat it has three corners, three corners has my hat. If it didn't have three cornes, it wouldn't be my hat".
We sang that 3 corner hat song in music class more than 50 years ago in elementary school.
When I saw that Tri-corn hat, I just KNEW that you were going to channel your inner Patrick Henry and shout to the mountaintops "Give Me Fretless, or Give Me DEATH!!"
Lol
Thanks. I’ve never heard anyone play banjo better than this. If someone doesn’t like this they have something wrong with them. Keep the faith and keep on shining
Matching the chicken! Brilliant!
*scours Amazon for matching Pi Guy the Daddy/Dante the Husky Dawg matching outfits*
I really like that [play open string + slide to the same note] feature.
Besides: Never hide noise.
The ultra clean super edited stuff of nowadays productions is far from the real world. You are presenting the world as it is while adding value to it.
Agreed! I like the realness of these videos. There is something so whimsical about these videos. They are just real and that is what makes them beautiful
Totally agree that she is adding value to the world
i mean... there's a difference between editing out the realness of a recording and putting a wind muffling mic on during a windy day lol. like i'm glad we're not hearing a lawnmower during the recording
I love the way your face expresses such joy and shows instantly when you are not on your expected note. Delightful session.
That hat so suits your quirky style. This could start a fashion trend.❤❤
The only background I hear are the house sparrows. Your fretless Fridays are a weekly treat.
Phoeb, if there was a Nobel Peace Prize for fretless banjo, I would nominate You!
I mean, her playing DOES give us peace, so I’d say she’s a contender!
This has become a favourite channel. Aside from the music, which is wonderful, the vibe makes me feel like the world is a kinder and more whimsical place than it usually does.
Glad I found this!! It's like a breath of fresh mountain air on a crisp morning!
Thanks!!!
"Angeline The Baker," A.K.A. "Angelina Baker" was written by Stephen Foster in the 1800's. He also wrote My Old Kentucky Home, Oh Suzannah, etc.
wow, what an amazing video Phoebe! you are really improving and I loved the looks and interactions with the chickens. And that hat is really amazing! You really helped me not to fret on this friday!
yeah I'm early! Love the song and the hat! Hugs from Munich, Germany.
Good sound, good hat, great fowls and tune for the fretless. Tis Friday and frett free
Love the hat, and the playing. Keep em coming.
You’re cute, chickens 🐓 are cute, fretless banjo is amazing! Thank you bringing your talent…
I don’t know who made and sent you that hat but it is absolutely YOU!!!
Love it! Also love your picking!
this is the highlight of my weeks since I found your channel.
Wonderful playing!
Also I love the hat its great
Delightful ! Those chicken friends are strutting and a posing.
Your technique is so smooth
Your right the hat is perfect!
Yeehaw! great hat, great chuck, and always a great tune Phebes, thanks for sharing and a wonderful weekend to you hun
The sound quality is good. The banjo sounds great. There are no distracting background noises.
The only background noise I hear are birds chirping when you’re not playing but they just add to your great videos. You are improving on the fretless. The slides sound great. Thanks for another awesome Fretless Friday!!!!!
Guess what? Chicken butt! Barred rock, buff Orpington, and fantastic banjo playing. Great way to end the day. Thanks for this!
You rock, Phoebe! Keep 'em coming!
Love the hat. I enjoy fretless Friday
Hat and chicken both did well, mighty fine banjo playing too.
Well done
nice tricorn hat !
Thank you Phoebe, I can't think of anything more down home than playing banjo to the chickens, and I like your tricorn hat. Have a glorious weekend.🙂🌻🧡
Ahh. It’s a black silkie! They’re a friendly breed. We had a black cochin that my wife referred to as “the lap chicken”. 😂 nice playing on that fretless.
Very enjoyable and kudos to your hat maker, very snazzy :)
Love the tricorn and the cockade.
Way you're dressed you're almost ready for Pie Rates of the Car Bean. You do pretty good. Playing fretless is what they do on a cello or violin. You have to have a very good ear to play those well.
I like the Polish chicken....... i took my banjo out yesterday because of you.. and I do like the hat
Your intonation on that banjo is definitely improving!
Love the hat! Great tune!🙏💜🤗
Heard no background noise. Just beautiful birds.
I can’t gauge whether or not you’ve improved because it all sounds great to me. (I play music also but not guitar-I’m a synth person) I’m just here for the refreshing vibe. …and chickens. …Which reminds me to go outside and feed mine right now! 😊
Have a great weekend.
I'm a huge synth gear head, what's your favorite synthesizer?
I think this hat should be your fretless friday hat, to be worn on Fridays 😊😊😊😊
Does anybody else agree
I'm so glad i found this channel. Excellent performance! 👏🏻 🐔
Love the Hat!... the flower is a nice touch! 🐔
You are a treasure and a great mother and wife of the future.
Mountain folk would order banjos and such from Sears and file the frets off.
You made my Friday. I had been fretting a little.
She's gathered us here today, and every Friday with inspiration and whimsy. For this I'm grateful.
Just stumbled on your 'Down to the River' video and came straight to here. Good progress! Also, beautiful chickens.
Love the hat! I can see you playing "Yankee Doodle Dandy" or something like that on Independence Day!
The audio quality from the new mic was very good.
I could hear background noise but it was nowhere near annoying. I wouldn't have noticed it had you not pointed it out.
The clearness and authenticity of the banjo was definitely noticable to my ears over my Android phone.
Dr. Phoebe, I love Fretless Friday! You are improving. Keep workin' on those slides. It was a nice day here in Western PA today, and I visited friends who have chickens. We sat on the porch and watched them. It made me think of my favorite practitioner of banjo! Much love and God's blessings to you, Doc! ♥♥♥♥♥
that partner look with the chicken was awesome! also I enjoyed your happy, very well played banjo tune!
What a splendid hat!
Chicken watching the sky, maybe there's a hawk in the area. That might be why Toto was upset
Maybe she was worried for a moment about the sky falling.
Phoebe, love the slide ornaments on the fretless. the audio recording is great. Nice hat too. Keep at it! :)
I love the thunder in the background.
Good job young lady good picking I’m really enjoying your TH-cam channel and I like that hat. It looks really good on you keep up the good work.
Awesome Phoebe, you improve every time you play! The background noise was just the sound of nature, it works out nicely :D
The hat looks great on you.
Who wore it better? Phoebe or Toto?🤔 I do believe Phoebe is top of the pecking order in attire - and of course “Banjo”!🥰
That's a cool hat!
Wonderful!!
You're getting better every time! Love this Phoebe!
What a wonderful video! Such art in such an easy way of doing things! Colorful, playful and your love shines through for your music and animals! Thanks.
Love the tricorn!
Well, it seems like I'm seeing a young lady in a colonial style hat next to a bicycle wheel, with a chicken or two playing an odd looking banjo, no frets even. It sounds really nice. I worry that this may be my mind going off on it's own as l enter my twilight years.
The trials to video Banjo Medicine. Thanks for another great video. The mic sounds good. Your fretless playing is improving.
You matched Toto completely! Well done showcasing that great hat someone sent you... and I love Fretless Fridays!!! It did sound great when you hit it!!! The mic worked fantastically... good "outdoor" mic!
Wonderful escape from the world. Keep it up. Thank you.
Phoebe, I stumbled onto your site accidently but I am sure enjoying your fretless Friday. Sounds great to me. Love you. 💕💕💕
That hat is AMAZING and so are you. The new mic is working wonders. The sound quality is excellent if you ask me; the perfect amount of background noise. Love to listen to you get better and better every week =) Love the new technique!!!
We are a growing group of fans😁
Well done, keep it simple!
I waited all afternoon for this to drop. Unfortunately, it was Thursday - I had my days mixed up. Fretless Friday is better than Phoebeless Thursday, let me tell ya!
That hat is awesome
I soo look forward to fretless Friday. Thank you!
Love it! The hat and the song.
I find it amazing, BTW, that anyone can hit a right note without frets, and I’ve been doing luthier work for years. And you are coming along really well.
your chickens, and their names, are the best
NICE HAT!!! OMG!!
I really enjoyed this tune. Loving the slide on that banjo. Thank you!
The microphone sounded very good!. I like the two string slide it adds depth to the chord. Thanks for another Fretless Friday!
Great hat!
Your wind cover on your mic is working great. Wonderful playing on your fretless banjo Phoebe.
You make life better. The sound was great The new Mic is definitely doing it's thing.
i was fretting a bit today as well. thanks for snapping me out if that with your positive vibes.
Absolutely loved it The banjo, your playing, and of course all the ambiance of outdoor picking. Yes you are improving on the fretless banjo, it's not and easy thing to learn, but your talent shows through nicely. The mike noise muffler worked great the background noise was very minimal . Frail on!
Excellent Fretless Friday! It is a great joy to watch You expand Your banjo virtuosity, with chicken backup. Keep doing what You’re doing, and pretty soon, You’ll be sliding into perfect intonation and rhythm. I hear it coming. ❤🪕❤
You’re videos are great. I always look forward to fretless Friday. Thanks!
Angeline is a great tune/song. We play and sing it most Wednesday night sessions. Though to be really traditional it's a song/tune that never ends so if you are playing in G it should end on a D chord , not a G chord. The last note in the tune in G is a D note. In D the last note is an A. Well played.
Thank you. Love Fretless Friday.
Great hat! 😎
The only significant background noise was the birds at the end which was definitely more Ambiance than noise. And I love the hat!
You pick your way into my heart. But you should know girl, that that’s a Loyalist’s hat.
Love the hat, song, and your light. Thank you🙌
Love that tri-corn hat and love the fact that your chickens name is Squidward!
Love that double slidey groove!
Very enjoyable to watch; thanks for sharing your gift 💝 with us!!!
rocking the pirate hat i fw it. sounds great as always
Got ma toes tapping with that one thanks Phoebe! :-)
Sounded Great! You are definitely getting better on the fretless. You motivated me to play again. Thanks
