- Explosions! Special Character Interruptions! Massive Titans laying waste to the battlefield. And, traitorous agents. These were some of the amazing things that happened during Play On Tabletop's first ever narrative tournament.

This summer Play On got to run their very first Narrative Event. 50 players came and participated in a two day affair with more explosions in it than anyone could handle! The tournament was within Games Con Canada 2023 in Calgary, Alberta. Will we do it next year too? We will have to see...

Build it they will come
I did this for my local gaming club here in Vancouver. We did a 15-20 person tournament and I put together narrative snippets, backstory, or just short stories, for every battle, and every round.
It wound up being pretty awesome and everyone really loved it. It was a great writing exercise for me to switch between horror, war, heroic action, poetry, you name it in the same weekly writing window.
Though it does get hard to figure out why 5 different colours of Space Marine are fighting each other through the climax, I think I did great. They're also too competitive for a large over-arcing map + battlefield effects, they really did want to mix narrative and pure competitive play.

There was a guy playing Kreig guardsmen who did try to do just that, if i recall he had tried to blow up the superweapon before it was lost

I've been trying to get my warhammer friends into games/tournaments like this. It's so hard in 10th ed 40k's competitive climate and I don't know why. X_X

The random events seem like a really neat idea and so do the secret missions
Spend as much time planning as you can. More prep time is always needed.

joke's on everyone there. Turns out this was supposed to be a game of hide and seek to find Alpharious. But everyone thought the other was going to win so instead turned into a game of me vs you. Nobody ever did find Alpharious', he was actually disguised as Nick the entire time to make the game more fun for himself.
What edition is this event? 9th or 10th?

This was the best Warhammer event I have ever been to and something that I will never forget. Thank you to everyone who attended and especially to the Plan On Tabletop guys for making it happen. Until the next time I can afford the flight over to do it again, Play On!

We watched this at my FLGS and the consensus among the sweatlords was "How can we make this hyper-competitive too?" Tournament player ruin everything
This looks like so much fun...really thinking to commit more to the hobby and find some groups. I enjoy the narrative part more than the meta tournament competitive stuff, though
This looks super cool - it would be even cooler if there was a video that detailed the story of the campaign (maybe not covering every battle but one that covers the ebb and flow of the campaign and the story itself)
