- Jonathan Harris was Much More Than Dr, Smith
Jonathan Harris was an American character actor whose career included more than 500 television and film appearances, as well as voiceovers. Two of his best-known roles were as the timid accountant Bradford Webster in the television version of The Third Man and the fussy villain Dr. Zachary Smith of the 1960s science-fiction series Lost in Space.

*"Oh, the pain. The pain of it all!"*
ha haaaa he was so easy to imitate lol
His Dr. Zachary Smith, was my favorite character on 'Lost In Space' ... but I really enjoyed all that I saw him in.
Sanford and Son, Bewitched, Love American Style, and Battlestar Galactica as the voice of Lucifer.
Lost In Space Forever!
Well stated!
He was also in The Bill Dana Show
Yes! You know your stuff.
He was great villain in Lost in space
I remember him playing Macbeth. Excellent!!
Space academy, lost in space, Sanford and son...
I remember watching a television movie on CBS in the mid 1970’s, a police comedy called The Last Of The Good Guys, he played a homeless man.
Jonathan Harris was a great actor.
Not as much watching B-Movies, but when his father took him to a stage show. When he heard the British accents, he said to himself ... "I want to sound like that"
I’m brave handsome Dr. Smith!
Great video Mark!😸
Thanks Ryan!
He popped up in Sanford and Son to.
Jonathan Harris also did the voice of Uncle Martin on the My Favorite Martian cartoon, as well as the praying mantis in the Disney/ Pixar movie A Bugs' Life.
Harris was in films as far back as in the 1950s. Botany Bay, The Big Fisherman (which he stole). Worth checking out.
"NEVER FEAH, SMITH IS HEAH"
"OHHH, THE PAINNN, THE PAINNN. WHATEVAH IS TO BECOME OF MEEEEEEEEEEEE?"
"YOU BUMBLING BOOBY!!!" "YOU INCOMPETENT IGNORAMUS!!!" "WATCH YOUR TONGUE, YOU SANCTIMONIOUS SLAGHEAP!!!"... etc. etc. etc.
👏🤖
There's an interview with him here on yt with conan O'Brien and he was pretty funny.
June Lockhart said he was gay. Perhaps so. Interesting she said that. I like Lost In Space more than ever.
I loved Lost in Space, as a kid. Now I find, most episodes unwatchable. The monsters looked like rejects from HR Puffenstuff. I preferred his more serious character in the 1st episode, not so goofy..
The thumbnail mentioned a surprising marriage. Yes?....
0:48 Must be because it lasted from 1938 for their whole lives, pretty surprising nowadays and even then, AND a celebrity in the mix, to boot.
Really thought he was gay. Think most people did. Did Wiki,..said same...married. wife into her 90s. I guess playing gay made him $.
Tell me, when, and on what show or movie, did Jonathan Harris ever portray a homosexual?
He NEVER played a gay man
@@FreyaTait- Lost in Space, as the gay groomer of a 12 year old boy.
@@oriraykai3610 And when was Dr. Smith's behavior toward Will Robinson inappropriate, and in what way?
@@oriraykai3610 projection. get counselling.
he was a great guy I didnt know he was married I thought he was gay??? he was a great guy played his parts very well rip.
I think others might have thought that as well, judging from the comments.
He played an effeminate character when the role called for it, it was NOT a gay persona- he was a pro at his job.
@@BeachsideHank He was indeed! He was a very clever man.
Umm, no mention of PIXAR's A Bug's Life or Toy Story 2? You need to improve your research.
Says nothing about his marriage.
Current version mentions it briefly at 0:50 .
It discusses his long-time marriage “til death do us part”. A successful and unusual marriage for Hollywood.
@@ALookBackChannelYeah, that's the second comment claiming that (I responded to one back a little in the section and marked the time, I think some folks are not finishing the vid or not listening).
I knew this guy was a flaming fruitcake when I was 8 years old, before I even knew what a flaming fruitcake was!
Where does it say he was gay?
I believe the "flaming fruitcake" comment says that.
