    I just got back from my mineralogy field trip which involved gold panning, but I got small flecks of gold (which I am happy about). 😊

    Found a gold pan just laying in my back yard this summer, it must have blown in from a neighbor's house during one of the big wind storms we had, it was still a strange find! Now I really wanna go panning!

    Do you have an opinion about what colour pan is best? I thought maybe a black one would show the gold easier?

    • @TheSluicers
      @TheSluicers  ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Blue has the highest contrast to gold so technically blue pans are the best, I do also quite like black as well, however the issue with black is that the blacksand camoflagues in and its very difficult to tell if its still stuck with the gold. Green pans (despite using one in this video) im not a huge fan of, the gold is quite hard to see, and then any other colours I have never really done much with. Cheers

    • @TheSluicers
      @TheSluicers  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ahaha, so generally you don’t find big gold in sand, the larger gold sits in with the boulders and larger rocks, sand generally just has flour gold, (I just threw this nugget in this finer material for the video), just keep at it and you will hit it big one day! Thanks a lot we will keep them up!

    • @IowaGoldProspectors
      @IowaGoldProspectors ปีที่แล้ว

      It's OK I know you did you have to have some kind of show when you wash the sand out of the pan you're making a video for TH-cam you're explaining to people that have never prospecting for gold and when people are trying to learn how to do things that's what makes TH-cam so great people like us like to explain to the newbies the new people into the hobby how to go about it. When I started prospecting back in the 80s there was no visual explanation on how to do this and I had to figure it out by reading a book very difficult to understand but got the hang of it. Things are easier with visual examples. I live in the Midwest in the United States and we don't have gold that size here. I would have to find some really good spot in California to even think about finding gold that big.

    Hi, new to this gold hunting game, and have a question, was reading about the panning comp in Alexander in September, they had the option to buy a speed pan at $250, what are they?? google wasn't much help, ta

    • @TheSluicers
      @TheSluicers  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi bro, so generally I think what speed pans are are really big rather flat pans with lower sides generally with a heap of riffles and you can just full on spin it round and the idea is because of the lower sides the gravel washes off way quicker and the gold will get caught in the riffles, personally I have never tried one and just stick with normal pans as I have heard the recovery rate on speed pans is a bit lower in the field (they are also way less practical for receiving your gold and carrying) they may have a special homemade one for sale though as $250 is way over what any commercial speed pans I can find cost. Cheers

    • @TheSluicers
      @TheSluicers  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is concentrate from the richest gold fields on arguably the planet, it’s an uplifted marine deposit and yes gold is found in sand, it just depends on the concentrator, you must be a one area dredger if you don’t understand gold deposits differently in different locations, the creek this material came from that moves 1 cubic metre per second a similar amount of gold was found in that creek and it’s plain to the entire Fraser river goldfields which are 10x the size and loaded on their own. This gold nugget is purely an example yes there wasn’t a gold nugget in there it was added but all through that sand naturally is gold galore.

    • @TheSluicers

      In what way does it ruin it? Using that logic every river has been “ruined” 100 billion times over whenever it rains. I would happily even drink water from the spot right after I have panned it, it does no damage and 0 pollution, it’s the same thing a flood does but on a far far far smaller scale

      It’s not about speed it’s about technique, I have been panning for years and I’m confident I would have recovered 99% of even fine gold in here, however I was probably going slightly faster then would normally be safe due to trying to get it done in 60 seconds and a bit less aggressive/slower panning may have helped.
