Just a theory, but-maybe a spoiler? It’s the “dolls” Cage said his most anticipated antagonist is “a deranged Geppeto” These “puppets” are either the victims themselves, or actual dolls that serve through the occult to influence the families atrocities Putting my money on that
Right, so, I’m copying and pasting a theory I have about this movie that I left on one of the trailers. Bear in mind that this is all speculation. The agent and “Longlegs” are actually brother and sister. They grew up in an abusive household, most likely part of a Christian fundamentalist sect/cult, and their father killed their mother for some perceived disobedience against the sect. He forced them to keep quiet about it. The sister did, but the brother snapped and at some point murdered their father, most likely as an attempt to protect the sister when he tried to abuse her. They were separated and put into foster care, so they lost touch. She was able to make peace with most of her personal demons, but her brother either couldn’t or wouldn’t. Between his previous trauma and the trauma he probably endured in foster care, he used his religious upbringing as a blueprint for his future self, or rather a “reverse blueprint.” Because he saw his dad in virtually everything related to Christianity and “good” religions, he began associating himself with evil in all forms of religion. With that in mind, he began murdering people with the same sort of prejudice as his father but with a different worldview behind it. Now with a successful career as an FBI agent, she’s caught wind of these killings, and either through her own deductions or by some clue left deliberately by her brother, she’s realized that he’s “Longlegs.” However, she knows that because of a conflict of interest, the Bureau wouldn’t allow her to take the case, so she stays mum about him being her brother. She pursues him, putting her life, career, and very sanity on the line because a) she knows him better than anyone else, and b) she feels guilty for “allowing” him to go down this path. Other clues/hints: In the trailer where the guy says, “It’s my daughter. I’ve gotta be quiet. It’s not my daughter”, I think that was the incident that caused “Longlegs” to snap. Their dad tried to murder her for similar reasons as his wife, so “Longlegs” stopped him, but used defending his sister as an excuse to act on his own homicidal impulses. I think that he might have had something wrong with him even without his dad being abusive; the abuse just made things worse. The fundamentalist upbringing would click with the line, “I never said my prayers, not once. They scared me”, as well as the frequent use of Satanic imagery and that of Hanbi, the obscure Sumerian/Akkadian god of evil. “Longlegs” has an obsession with his victims being “dirty” in some way only he understands, and that’s why he targets them. However, he views completely normal, kind, and good people as “dirty.” If society views them as “clean”, then to him, they’re “dirty.” That’s why he looks so disheveled: he’s “clean” in the exact opposite way that his father would see it. This next one is a bigger stretch. The “Cuckoo” line is repeated by “Longlegs” because they owned a cuckoo clock, and it happened to go off during one or both of the murders. As such, it’s become his way of saying, “I’m going to kill you.” I know, that has, “WHY DID YOU SAY THAT NAME?!” written all over it, and he probably just says “Cuckoo” because that’s what he is. Of course, I have very little to base this on, mostly due to the filmmakers keeping a tight lid on everything but the bare minimum, a brilliant strategy for marketing your movie. I won’t be the least surprised if it turns out I’ve been reading too deep into all this, but regardless, it really feels like there’s *something* deeper going on here. If it turns out I’m wrong about all of this-which I’m pretty sure I am-then I may just save all of this to write my own horror story, albeit after changing details to avoid plagiarism. Still, that’s what I think is going on in this movie.

Right, so, I’m copying and pasting a theory I have about this movie that I left on one of the trailers. Bear in mind that this is all speculation.
The agent and “Longlegs” are actually brother and sister.
