    I'd argue PAT is layer 4 since a device implementing it must be aware of layer 4 protocols and interact with their headers in order to perform its function. Ports are after all a transport layer concept.

    If i have more than 1 host the public ip os going to be the same but just changing the ports? Or the clients ports are the same? Or different? Asking that because u used 1024 for every example

    I got a little confused in router's table. What is hardware address D? Since router cannot know destination server's MAC address, what may that be? Thanks!

    can the NAT have 2 mac addresses?, because you say first it has mac address B internally and then C externally, so i was just wondering if this is really possible..

    is the port number generated unique for every host in the subnet? when it sends out an outbound packet to outside host.

    Now is it possible to find the original IP using the NAT? I’m trying to monitor activity in my Xbox servers, and can’t seem to find a valid IP address, I was thinking that maybe I’m receiving the fake IP like what you’re talking about in the video. I’m new to computers btw, so sorry if I sound like I have no idea what I’m talking about, because I don’t

    5:16 Why do we need to assign ports if NAT offers different addresses inside the local network?

    • @vinaygupta2436
      @vinaygupta2436 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Client addresses are different but what if multiple clients establish TCP connections from same source port(eg:26650)? A distinction is very necessary. A NAT device will always pick another port number so that 26650 wouldn't be repeated in the NAT translation table.

    what a Proxy does and PAT does seems pretty similar though

    • @cottonmouth8394
      @cottonmouth8394 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cesar Ramirez from what I heard from the video, it sounds like the difference, is that a proxy acts as it’s own client. In other words it’s like a middle man
