    Hello Robin. This makes me think about the book I am currently reading, The renaissance soul on how to keep engaging with your passion when you want to do a lot of different things. In the book she advises to keep 4 activities we want to get better at and focus on, which reminds me of this 3-tier system. I love these ideas and your channel in general. I feel like your advices are so much more applicable than the average advice on language learning. I think your content is so good. Thanks a lot!

    Hi Robin!
    I have been struggling with dissatisfaction lately because I have not been able to achieve my very high goals. I have a toddler which limits my overall time, but also work full time, study DS, and spanish for the last several years.
    This is EXACTLY what I have been looking for to still achieve my goals but not be so hard on myself. This is amazing, thank you for your great ideas and positivity!

    This is the single most helpful video I’ve found not only on your excellent channel but on ANY polyglot channel on TH-cam. I’m studying several languages plus have piano lesson and video gaming hobbies and was getting so overwhelmed, frustrated with not having enough time, and burned out. I needed to make one tweak for my own purposes in adding a 4th “dabbling” tier where I could dump anything I wanted to not ignore completely but due to time constraint had to be zero pressure that I can do once a week or less. I know - you say that’s too many - but it was more stressful not having a place to dump those other languages to keep them in mind than having the extra tier.

    I found this video helpful because this week I decided to schedule my days from morning to evening. I realised that I was procrastinating a lot and wasn't doing things that were important for me. As a result, I've been creating a timetable in which I allocate times when I'll be doing language learning, other hobbies, TH-cam stuff, etc. etc. It seems a little controlling but I kinda like it because it gives me some structure. Your rotation system inspired me to tweak my own system a bit. Cheers!

    I feel like you just listened to my argument with my parants... I was just talking to them about wanting to juggle a language and a hobby and they said I shouldn't because " You might get to overwhelmed " then I found your video! Ha .... What are the odds?

    This was an incredible video! xD I actually have the tendency to think in daily activities instead of doing things regularly but not every day... It's like trying to put everything that I want to progress every single day, even if it's just for a little bit of time. This video woke me up hahaha, Thanks!

    I really appreciate your videos and diary entries. I find your methods and suggestions highly appealing for my adhd brain. I love learning languages. Currently working on French and been really considering other languages into my learning activities to keep myself engaged and interested.
    Random question and maybe I haven’t come across a video that speaks to this but, do you have any recommendations or tips for learning oral based languages? I am currently trying to teach myself my own Indigenous (Canadian) language of Cree.
    Language revitalization has been on my mind and my recent accomplishments of learning French has given me the confidence of self-study of the Cree language N-dialect. There has been a recent surge of new resources and classes but I am trying to be creative with my learning plan.
    I guess the ultimate question it comes down to: any tips or recommendations for attempting to learn a new language with few resources and little access to knowledgeable language speakers?
    My brain gets overwhelmed with too many possibilities and ideas where is what I really need a guide to establish a learning path.

    Hi Robin!
    Thanks for another great video. I studied English, French, Italian, Spanish, Swedish, and German, but it's not easy to create time for all of them now. Your system will certainly come in handy.
    This is my first time ever commenting on TH-cam. I felt I finally had to change my "lurker status" to tell how much I appreciate your content. Your enthusiasm is very inspiring and I look forward to more of your tips.
    Just some questions I have:
    How do you handle declensions in languages that have cases? I understand German pretty well because my mother tongue is Dutch, but trying to use the right declensions of articles and adjectives makes me less fluent when speaking. I've also started studying Greek now and I'm afraid I will have the same problem there.
    Also, have you ever fallen out of love with a language so that you stopped studying it altogether? This happened to me with Japanese and Mandarin Chinese. Any tips on how to overcome this?
    Keep safe. Cheers from Belgium!

    wow, I am in a very similar situation of learning DS and Chinese and other languages, like you, AND I kinda developed a similar system than you, with a few differences. I just formulated this schedule, so I don't know if would work it out.BUT now I am really positive that will be a very useful tool, as you are saying in this video. Glad that I end up seeing this! thank you!! Cheers from Brasil :)

    Hi Robin! Thanks for sharing. Would you be up to also share the master tier system you use for maintaining your foreign languages? I've got 8 languages to take care of, 4 are at an advanced level, 2 are upper intermediate, and the other 2 are lower intermediate. Thanks in advance for any tip.

    Let's say I'm studying two languages, should I study them both in a row or take some hours break? Sometimes im in a flow state and I want to press on, but the 2nd language stops my flow.

    Hi I want to get your book but I’m not fluent in any language yet !! What is the book about ? apart from maintaining languages!

    • @RobinMacPhersonFilms

      Hi Daniel! Thanks so much for being interested in my book, and also for supporting my TH-cam channel! Don’t worry, the book is not just for people who are fluent in one or more foreign languages. Most of all, it’s about how to learn languages in a way that sets you up for success with maintaining them in a way that is enjoyable, practical, and sustainable 😄 so in my opinion it’s just as ideal for someone at your stage! It contains some scientific information about what skills are and different ways that we learn them, and how I believe this is relevant for understanding how to learn and maintain language skills over time. It contains tons of tips and techniques for using dead time, including a free planner I designed along with three example learners, it has lots of techniques for learning languages, strategies for people who want to learn and maintain multiple languages, a bunch of personal stories from my own life learning and maintaining languages, and each chapter as a summary at the end and even a comic that continues throughout the book 😄

    I love learning language korean is my third. english is my second language , iam in B2 level . Here my question
    Can u accelerate u speaking to fluency Level without having native partner to practice with.

    • @M_SC
      @M_SC 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can talk to yourself. Imagine a conversation you had in your real life. Then reproduce that conversation in your target language.

    • @parasitius
      @parasitius 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      "Can u accelerate u speaking to fluency Level without having native partner to practice with." you have that backwards, you can't do anything to accelerate fluency (except invest MORE HOURS studying) much less achieve it just because you have a speaking partner. Check out David Long on the ALG method parts 1 ~ 6. You don't speak your way to fluency, you understand your way to fluency, so in lieu of ALG style classes you need to listen to a lot of easy stuff so it gets embedded in your brain and sentences start popping out on their own

    Hey great system man! Managing our time is a serious issue in these days. Interesting! Thanks for sharing. I’m a more “stubborn learner”. I put one single goal and I break through walls with my head to get it 🤣 I did two languages at a time once and I felt I didn’t improve in a satisfactory way so.. once at a time for me. I will use your method to pursue my other hobbies more consistently though ( sports and investments). 🙏🏻
