Thank you for discussing this. I’m on the same Msci course at exeter I’m starting forth year and the PWP training this year and I’m so exited but really nervous.

Thanks so much for making a video on this, so interesting to learn about different life paths and career paths. NHS talking therapies have been invaluable to me personally so lovely to learn about options

I used to live in Reading very close to the Uni campus and I completely agree about how beautiful it is! 🌳🌳🌳

I’m currently training to be a CYP counsellor, and I’m hoping to become an integrative CYP counsellor, and like you I knew a few years ago that I wanted to do this. I’m having to do an access course in social sciences because I don’t have a levels and therefore don’t have enough credits, but I’m really excited to be able to use my personality traits and skills I have learnt to use as many different modalities as possible to help others to help themselves. As a neurodivergent individual, I think there should be more of us working within the NHS.

Thank you for this post. I am in denial of wanting to be either a psychology teacher or a therapist! I have a question though. Do you ever get patients with eating disorders? I feel this would set me back and go into teaching as I struggle with others with eating disorders and specifically anorexia :)

Chloe is right :) although it’s a bit more complicated! I would never treat someone with an eating disorder as it’s beyond my training. However, as part of the job I do a few initial assessments a week - this means assessing people who may have been referred by their gp/self referred into the service & deciding on appropriate treatment. As anyone can come for an assessment, I have seen some eating disorders across 3 years and even did a project last year to improve our assessment process for EDs. If we suspect someone is presenting with an ED we refer back to GP for them to then do a physical screening & refer to ED services. I do still have to gather some sensitive info - like someone’s eating habits, exercise habits, body image, weight/height. I would say i’ve only seen 1-2 people with restrictive eating across 3 years, but lots more who struggled with bingeing. I’ve never felt triggered though, I just tend to put my “work hat” on. Teaching is also an amazing route though - I also considered that 🥰💗
