@ with Whiskey? Yeah, many games work just fine. And the native games, also more than enough. I do also have a dedicated Windows gaming PC in the garage for actual gaming.
I want to buy a mac mini following that. Treat it as a home pc for me and my wife. What external SSD do you recommend? For my use, it would be primarily be for working/coding. For my wife, likely work too.
@@oscarcastro9316 I had a spare 1TB nVME drive laying around which I put in an enclosure and connected that one permanently. Now that’s my main storage for most stuff, coding projects, photo library, big apps, mail folder, assets, and more. On the internal drive I basically just have my downloads, smaller apps, documents, and other stuff.
Last year I switched to iphone and ipad, and this year switched to apple tv. I don't see myself doing a full switch to macos but I'd like a Mac system to mess with and honestly for 600 I'm tempted to get the new Mac mini. My biggest problem is the cost to expand it from factory, and even than storage expansion can be handled with external drives.
Upgrading from a late 2015 iMac i7 32 GB to the Mac mini M4 base model. Primary use is music production using Cubase 13 pro (Rock, Synthwave). I guess that's a bit of an upgrade, huh?
I imagine, the SD slot and extra TB port will be the reward for us studio users that are hanging in there for the upgrade, especially given M5 will likely be out not long after.
Like 30-40 gigs usually. System caches can get huge too depending on what you’re doing I used the education store discount and got a 16/512 M4 Mac mini for $700
Hey hey, can you make like a three tier set up for the Mac mini somewhat like a budget a mid range and a high-end set up with desk and chair, maybe but definitely monitor our keyboard mouse, etc. yeah this is all good with it being $600 but how much do you have to spend to get a real good quality set up out of it.
For the price, it is the best value mini-PC. Yes, not all games and some work apps/software don't run on it. Fortunately, all the main non-work-related apps/software run on it and all the creator work apps run on it. Next best competition on the market: Geekom A8 with the Ryzen 7 CPU for value, and BeeLink SER9 for CPU multi-core power in a mini-PC.
The mac 4 mini is the ultimate overkil casual machine. Its not for professionals, its not for gamers, its for "regular" people who do light office work and do light gaming on the side. It is unrivaled in appealing to the casual regualr consumer who wants something overkill. With this in mind i know its not for me but it was never supposed to be. Its for the people who work on spreadsheats at home whos main gaming interest are probably simple platformers.
I really hate apple computers these days because everything in them is proprietary. Not a regular SSD but an abomination of their own and no upgradable RAM. My old intel era Steve Jobs Mac’s and PPC macs are still alive and kicking just because they mostly used off the shelf parts.
For real tho. It sounds like MacOS propaganda to be like “Windows is crashing and rebooting all the time, even when you ask it not to, and Windows users seem to think that’s normal” but I’ve been dailying Win10 (and now Win11🤮) for the past ~four years and I still haven’t figured out if there’s some way to truly stop my PC from occasionally restarting itself in the night (yes, I’ve been through all of the normal settings) frequently enough to be annoying to me. Vs my old 2013 MacBook Pro that I think went a whole 14 months once with zero restarting.
Speaking of common sense, everyone thinks the power button is on the bottom, problem is they have it upside down IMO. Power button side is up with the cooling vents too. Having the vents and button on the base is just wrong.
It's only around $600 if you do absolutely nothing with it except look at it. As soon as you need to actually use it for anything other than internet browsing it suddenly costs more cos you need an external SSD and enclosure to get a workable hard drive size. Or go for the next tier up for internal storage from the start where it immediately costs $200 more.
Not in a league of their own when it comes to gaming. Gaming sucks on Mac. My pc shreds any Mac for gaming. I can’t wait until Mac’s are superior and I can ditch my full. Size tower. And have more integration with my iPad and iphone.
@@weroliera bro can you make your gaming pc for $600 ? While only running at max 40watts ? I don’t think so, most people don’t get computers to play games either.
Many people don't buy Macs because they can't play the games they want, and game developers don't release games because not enough Macs are sold to make it worthwhile. So it's a never ending circle unless you choose to break the circle and buy a Mac.
He just wants to be able to game on a Mac like on his pc. He wants to make the switch, just like many do, but they feel they can’t yet because of limitations. He already owns an iPhone and iPad.

The RAM increases across Macs is the best thing to come out of Apple Intelligence
Let’s not praise Apple for something they should have done years ago, after profited heavily off upgrades. It’s overdue.
I'm so glad you mention the external SSD piece.
$499.99 on Amazon right now, it's not a M4 Pro, but it's not going to break bank like the M4 Pro. Good price over performance.
Got the basic model. Best bang for buck computing at the moment
Yeah it is good value. But are we honest about how useable, 250gb internal storage is? No erhernet either

Always buy the base model, get external ssds
I own a air 15 m2 512 16. Enough for portability so decided to spend some credit points and got the m4 pro version for a little more power for home.

My personal view is they made it thicker for one simple reason; airflow through it.
