    When I was 6, my maternal grandfather died. I was truly amazed by how great he looked, I started following the funeral director around asking so many questions. I wanted his job. It was the 70s and my mom used to tell me that most women don't choose this career, it was morbid, and other discouraging and hurtful comments. I went to college for nursing. I worked in oncology and palliative care and I hated every day of it. Cincinnati Mortuary College is maybe 3 miles of my residence. I'm looking at 50 soon, but am I too old to pursue my dream career? You are a true inspiration, and I always learn something from your videos. Thank you.

      My daughtet is starting the pre mortuary science program at UC Blue Ash. Then she's going over to Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. When she told me that's what she wanted to do I was elated. When I was in my early 20's I wanted to do go to school but my parents called me weird. Lol

    Love your videos!! You always make your videos interesting and informative I have learned Soo much about the funeral industry both business and the technical side from you videos love it!! Your Soo amazing I'm not in school and I don't think I could do what you do but I do have a lot of respect for what you do and you are educating people who may want to go into this field and showing a lot of things that maybe they wouldn't be able to see before actually getting into it.. and you're also showing other people that are in the field things that they might not know you'd be such a good teacher..

    Allow me to pin point a question asked by silentfades. Where do the bodies the students work on come from? Is this an extension of "donating a body to science" or can you request that your body be used for mortuary teaching exclusively? And jumping off another point silentfades raised are the bodies on loan from local funeral homes and will be returned after preparation?

    • @bradsumner92
      @bradsumner92 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      gramps2matt I know there is an option here in Missouri, US to donate exclusively to mortuary science schools for students to practice on. Once you’ve had everything done to you that can be you are cremated and returned to the family. Or if you wish you can be used for medical students to dissect and study on as well before being cremated and returned.

      I have to check that out. I heard that embalming started with in the Civil War era and Lincoln was the first president to get embalmed. I'm sure many here have seen that picture of an undertaker embalming someone on a battlefield during the Civil War. Here is a suggestion for a future video. Do a video presentation of a funeral home museum if you have one nearby. This might interest you or others on here. I found a blog site called "The Business of Black Death in Detroit The Place of Black Funeral Homes and Cemeteries in the City of Detroit" , just Google it if you want. I found it fascinating. Anyway, thanks again

    Are they graded per course ? Do have too maintain a certain GPA - how can they grade for ie embalming when there is 4/5 students per cadaver ? do local funeral homes loan the bodies here for embalming then get them back for the showing ? How do does one grade on personality or interactions with others ? are the families informed that a student is involved ? Is there a discount since a student is doing the work ? are students on call for pick up ...does a funeral director need to be there for that ? Is there any programs that are a master degree in the funeral business ? if you think any of the questions should be answered by the school let me know and i will forward them. Have you ever thought f or have you ever been involed with teaching ? As always a sincere thank you for this video!!!
    PS
    As always thank you and I still have a bunch of questions coming real soon LOL

    • @megancaldaia6708

      silentfades I would say that the cadavers are ones that have donated their bodies to science or that are maybe Jane or John Doe's (Usually homeless people) that no one has claimed their bodies in a certain amount of time maybe.
      I doubt that the bodies used in the school would be funeral home work. Most likely donated bodies.

      Kari Northey That is very interesting as things are very very different in Australia. Most practice is done on unclaimed or donated cadavars. Also this course is only offered in certain States of Australia. Also you can do certain components of the course like to just learn imbalming for example but, each component of the course is very expensive.
      There is only one or two funeral homes close by where I live that I know of.
      There seems to be many more funeral homes in the U.S..

    It's probably handy to have a director who is also a lawyer to handlly all the sleazy funeral happenings that end up in court. What a perfect match.
    A lawyer, who is already lower than whale shit, and a sleazy funeral director trying to oversell a customer like a used car salesman.
