Garrett actually has a Master's degree in clinical psychology and bachelor's degree in English and philosophy. He used to be a clinical psychologist and put his doctorate on hold to do Silent Planet full time
So that explains his lyric writing ability
thats fucking insane
The reverse Adrian /Northlane
Ye, I’ve always described them to new people as heavy ass spoken word poetry. It’s so god damn unique.
Haha love the mirrored reaction from 6:26 - 6:32 😂
The emotional part towards the end sounds so much like bring me the horizon's hospital for souls
I instantly thought the same when I heard it!
This is song of the year for me. Has been on constant repeat!
This track is sick! Did you know the band was involved in a bus accident last year? Their van rolled over in a snow storm! They were all okay but Garret suffered a head injury. I can’t help but think this song is related to that!
I believe I read somewhere that the inspiration for this song had to do with weird dreams/visions he was having due to that injury. I could be wrong though.
The inspirations were a combo of their bus accident and the movie Under the Skin.
Garret made a video for their Spotify that mentions exactly this.
This happened in Wyoming just north of Denver by a couple hours, he mentioned this specifically at the Denver show a couple days ago right before they played this song
Northlane meets Nine Inch Nails meets Bad Omens
Glad I'm not the only one who sees a little bit of Bad Omens there😂😂
6:30 couple of owls over here 😂
Eeeeeeee I’ve been waiting all week for this 😈
I’m new to metal but I love the structure I’m beginning to see in newer stuff of a constant build instead of basic verse chorus repeat
Welcome to the party, it's never too late to start enjoying metal 🤘
Welcome! If you’d like some recommendations feel free to let me know
Granite by Sleep Token is basically one big crescendo, and it's so damn good
@@Nukozade it’s funny you say that cause I am the biggest sleep token fan ever
Enjoy the ride brother! It’s the most diverse, experimental, emotional musical experience you can have haha.. and live, nothing compares to the energy
I understood that star wars reference Nath! Episode 2 of Star Wars was my favorite movie for the longest time.
I’ve checked every day since this dropped waiting to see your reaction. Might be my favorite song this year. God I loved it.
This was fkn fantastic! What a set of pipes!
They’re so goddamn good. It’s one of those things where they take risk in everything they do, and they’ve not missed yet.
You guys gotta react to some Dayseeker, if you haven't already... Even further than that, react to some Phinehas. Phinehas, Silent Planet, and Dayseeker all came up in the same scene in Southern California. Sean from Phinehas taught Garrett from Silent Planet AND Rory from Dayseeker how to do harsh vocals. I heard that straight from Garrett's mouth. He said, at a concert that I was at, that he used to spit up blood after every concert, until Sean helped him. Phinehas doesn't get the love they deserve.
We’ve done all of them on the channel before.
Our interview with Rory from dayseeker is coming in a few days
@@nathandjohnny Awesome. Hell yeah. I'm looking that up now. Super stoked for you guys.
Thank you guys! Love this shift for silent planet, works so well ! I would recommend checking out “You Wish” by Dayshell, shayleys newest single that’s completely independent and he played everything himself. Super good ! Thank you for continuing this channel 😊
I liked the pun at the end
The Browning - Dragon is song that came to mind for that synth style song, granted it is a bi heavier.
Northlanecore, sounds so good
Of all bands, I love that they are the ones producing it. It isn't some noise coming out of a speaker, they are still playing the synth stuff. That's what hurt me with novelists, their music was good, but became super heavily produced.
Yeah, I was considering the same type playlist Nath, just because of this song. Stuff like Dominatrix from VoV, Obsidian, Shivering from Illenium/Spitibox, Cyberhex from MIW, Mother Part 4 and Red Fur form Veil of Maya, and Every time we touch from Electric Callboy. 😄
Good reaction boys I enjoy your content.
Kingdom of Giants, If I Were You, and Hollow Front do some good synth mixing in their songs too
ILLENIUM - Nothing Ever After with Motionless In White, kinda has the same vibe to it but not exactly, worth a listen for sure.
This gave me massive HEALTH and The Anix vibes, they'd belong on that playlist
This song is weird as and I'm here for it!
TDWP dropped a synth/dubsteppy single after their last album (which was elite), called Reasons.
Garrett said that Health was the main inspiration band for this sound. Definitely check them out if you haven't. This song is about the band's van accident last year. Are you looking for other industrial type songs, or just heavy songs with a lot of synth, or what?
Heavy with a lot of synth
@@nathandjohnny Other songs that are synthy but still heavy:
Starset - Into The Unknown, Everglow, Frequency, Monster, Telepathic, Telekinetic, Other Worlds Than These, Devolution (really almost anything, especially from the first two albums. The perfect blend of heavy with synth, orchestral/cinematic elements, pop influence, and djenty, super low-tuned guitars)
The Word Alive - Strange Love, Ambitionary, Monomania
Stabbing Westward - Ghost
Lucille Croft feat. Bad/Love - Kill The Machine
Moodring - BLACK_WAVE, WOULDYOUWAITFORME, SHI=DEATH
Banks Arcade - Drown
Currents - Living In Tragedy
Dayseeker - Neon Grave, Dreamstate
Nerv - Hopeless
Seeing Things feat. Grapefruit Astronauts - Soulkiller
Seeing Things - Switchblade
Frontieres feat. Alpha Wolf - Mirage
Frontieres feat. Jon Reeves - Falling
Veil of Maya - Red Fur, Mother Pt. 4
Allt - Emanate
Time, The Valuator - Binary Pulse
dead7 - pay up
Phantom Code - Reset|Humanity
Any of the metal collabs with Illenium, PhaseOne, Kayzo
fucking banger! Cant wait for the new track in 7 days!!!
now i need to binge the blade trilogy.
For the playlist put rotoscope by spiritbox in there!
Sounds like jonny from the browning
🔥
Mix of Bad Omens, Born of Osiris, NIN. But heaps of Born of Osiris vibes
Silêncio Planet insanee
Synthly the Best is actually such a good title for the playlist 😂
I love how “deftones-core” is becoming a thing. Might not be called that. But it’s totally how it comes across to me. And I can’t get enough of it.
Young Dolph Lungren, I knew the kid looked distantly familiar hahah
I think Switchblade by Seeing Things would be a song that has a somehwat similar vibe imo. It's heavier but less catchy though.
9 inches of Northlane
Hey, did you ever make that playlist?
Which one?
The one you wanted to put together along with this song, that you mentioned in the vid @@nathandjohnny
side note, i in fact do not know who Jose Gonzales is
Silent Planet Doesmatter.
Ivy Amity Affliction would go well.
NIN comparison is spot on
"he's got great diction"
Correct?
Funny when I keep hearing people talk about this being a 'breath of fresh air' when all I hear is a pretty boring SP song that sounds like it wants to be Northlane or Architects or BMTH or Spiritbox or Void of Vision or any of the dozens of other bands that have incorporated electronica in their metal.
It sounds like Skrillex wrote this in Garage Band, and I'm genuinely disappointed they've become just another band to take this industrial / electro metal turn on their sound.
From Trilogy to this in such a short time? Hard not to be a bit let down.
It's obviously a very emotional topic, a band talking about how they almost died.
But that critical story is almost lost on this style of song, particularly as a formal introduction to this direction.
Cry harder.
i can't even describe how much i hate when a song slaps so fuckin' hard -- and then they turn around and make a shitty music video for it.
bruh.
