      Don’t know if you can help me here but I tried loading the files with Sysex librarian from my mac to the volca but couldn’t load the exec files...they appeared greyed out so I was unable to drag and drop them..I don’t use a daw only for recording my live jams if I choose to so can’t use some of the alternatives I found online. Any help appreciated!

      michael metal boggia hi there - try renaming the file to have an ".syx" extension. For some reason Sysex Librarian on the Mac refuses to accept files with ".sysex" as the extension.

      michael metal boggia also you could try just using the Synthmata links to send the patches directly to your Volca all from inside your browser!

    Thank you so much for all the Volca Fm videos. I.ve just discovered your channel. Maybe one day i can master the FM synthesis. I really thing that you should make a video showing how we can achieve a init patch with a sine wave carrier to start with. Gratings from Argentina!

    BTW, Mine is not here yet, but do you have a tutorial explaining how to upload these patches to Volca FM?

    • @OscillatorSink
      @OscillatorSink  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No video, but the easiest way, as long as you have a midi interface, is to click on the patch links on my site - this will take you to my free online editor with the patch loaded and ready to go; you can send the patch to your Volca from there.
      There's another feature of that editor that might interest you if you're after new patches - I talk about it in this video: th-cam.com/video/ROCDnJ1bJB8/w-d-xo.html

    Hi this pack is also a great work!! i have a question, do you have any way to get some drum patch likes the volca default patch?

    • @OscillatorSink
      @OscillatorSink  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. I'm not totally sure what you mean sorry - do you mean patches like one ones that came with the Volca FM (I wasn't aware that there were drum patches), or do you mean like other Volcas (the Beats?)

    • @guillermorayabatanero6623
      @guillermorayabatanero6623 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oscillator Sink i mean that with Volca Fm comes a specific drum patch, likes a bassdrum or snare tasty noisy. Accidentally i've removed that one and i think that it is an interesting patch to explore it

    • @OscillatorSink
      @OscillatorSink  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah, I see - I think the only way to get them back is by factory reset I'm afraid!

  • @cyberia3721
    @cyberia3721 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi mate why i cant use this presets? in dexed my presets are syx files not sysex , i cant load your presets, what is wrong? Tx , man.

    • @OscillatorSink
      @OscillatorSink  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can try just renaming the file to .syx, but I thinking dexed expects whole cartridge files rather than single patches? The easiest way to load them, if dexed works for you, is to use the Synthmata links which will open a webpage that can send the patch directly to your Volca. Otherwise you can use a sysex library application like C6, Midi-OX or Sysex Librarian to send the patches.

    hello. Love your work!
    one question. i have seen you use keystep and beatstep pro. i have them both but am unable to transfer sysex patches to my volca fm with synthmanta. any tip on how to get it done since im new to fm would love to get some patches transferd and play with them.
    thanks in advance!

    • @OscillatorSink
      @OscillatorSink  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, neither the Keystep nor the Beatstep transmit sysex I'm afraid, it's very annoying. You'll need a standard interface. I recommend the Roland UM-ONE mk 2. (I use the midi interface on my audio interface).

  • @polinivesparacer
    @polinivesparacer 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    hi, its not possible to open *.sysex files, only *.syx files in dexed and youre online program! do you know what could be wrong? cheers

    • @OscillatorSink
      @OscillatorSink  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dexed only supports cartridge format files (32 patches in one file). The downloads I provide are single patches. You can send them directly to your Volca using a standard sysex player (I use Elektron C6, which is free).
      Alternatively (and preferably) I would suggest using the patch links on my site which will open the patch in synthmata, and if you using Chrome as your browser, it will send the patch to your Volca for you. All you need is a midi interface.

    • @OscillatorSink
      @OscillatorSink  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, do you have a MIDI interface for your computer?

    • @rasdani5851
      @rasdani5851 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oscillator Sink I've been using a yamaha mg10xu. So no external audio interface. Unfortunately it hasnt got midi.

    • @OscillatorSink
      @OscillatorSink  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So you'll need a midi interface - they're useful in general so just use these patches as an excuse to pick one up! There are lots of inexpensive ones around, but the one I recommend these days (because I know that it works properly - which can't be said for all of them) is this one from Roland:
      www.roland.com/uk/products/um-one_mk2/
      After this you can use the synthmata links on my website to send them straight over to your Volca with a single click!

    • @rasdani5851
      @rasdani5851 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oscillator Sink Thanks for the quick reply. I will get one of those. Would it allow me to send midi from daw to volcas? To make longer sequences

      That's exactly right!

  • @ikosimazaki723
    @ikosimazaki723 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey, I've bought myself Volca Fm and would be interested in using your Synthmata website, but the problem is I have no idea how to connect Volca to the computer - btw I use ubuntu 18.04 system (yes, I do have midi interface - behringer uphoria 204HD which has two midi - IN and OUT, and yes I do have midi cable, and yes - the interface works properly, I've done multiple recordings with it, and finally - yes I've tried to plug the cables myself - the problem is - the pc doeesn't recognise that midi is plugged in - or should I take any additional steps that I'm unaware of? I've been looking for the answer on the internet but there's virtually nothing about that issue, nor was I able to find any tutorials on connecting Volca to PC so that I could upload new patches). Any ideas on how I could get that to working?

    • @OscillatorSink
      @OscillatorSink  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi there. Ignore any other MIDI cables and the Volca for now - with your interface connected, are the MIDI in/outs listed in your DAW and / or when you go to Synthmata (in chrome)?

    • @OscillatorSink
      @OscillatorSink  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      But to be clear - all being well, you take a midi cable from the "out" on your interface and plug into the Volca. Your pc will not sense this - midi does not work like (say) USB because it is 1 way - the Volca cannot announce itself to the interface. If your interface is set up correctly, the drivers work and the cable isn't broken, that's all you need to do.

    • @ikosimazaki723
      @ikosimazaki723 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @OscillatorSink
      @OscillatorSink  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah yes, WebMidi (as of today) only works natively in Chrome and Opera although I understand that it's going through the approval process in Mozilla. Enjoy playing and make sure you try the randomizer function at the bottom of the page in Synthmata - that's my favourite feature!

    • @ikosimazaki723
      @ikosimazaki723 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh yeah I love that as well, this way you can immediately experience indefinitely rich sonic pallette and stay inspired when you run out of ideas. Design of Synthmata is truly brilliant, especialy the randomizer. Also, I've tried your Patch Packs and that is a lot of fun as well :)

    Thanx again so much fr sharing this. I tried to make some kick drums a while back but didnt get very far. Will check out your settings on these patches for sure! BTW I ran into a very interesting article a last week about the harmonics of a hammond B3 organ (sorry if this is somewhat off topic) I used the first 6 harmonic numbers in the table for frequency coarse on the 6 operators on the FM (alg 32) and wow! what a satisfying sound! Just felt like sharing. In case your not familiar: www.soundonsound.com/techniques/synthesizing-tonewheel-organs

    • @OscillatorSink
      @OscillatorSink  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +an3z enjoy the patches and thanks for the link - I'll have a read through! I bet applying amplitude modulation to some, but not all of the operators in your organ patch could create some interesting sounds; maybe just a touch of pitch wobble as well - give it a go!

    • @an3z
      @an3z 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I always run organ type sounds through a tremolo pedal. Is that what you mean? I added some LFO wobble too that patch too that i learned from one of you vids. Havent had much time to mess around with the FM recently but Im free tonite and off work tomorrow so Im going to spend the evening messing around and having a few pints as well. Thanx again for being a wonderful teacher! cheers!

      +an3z everything is new to everyone at some point! Everyone is a noob at everything to begin with. Now you understand how to apply amp mod in FM synths and what it sounds like. Tick that off the list!
