The Coal Porters latest album, No. 6, was produced by John Wood, the legendary British folk-rock mastermind who recorded the classic albums of Fairport Convention, Nick Drake, Beth Orton and Squeeze.
The album features Kerenza quadruple tracking herself into a string quartet, Andrew on a ukulele, Sid on trusty autoharp and mandolin, both Neil and Paul on dobro, a Byrdsy acoustic 12-string guitar, and very emotional, long, sweet trumpet solo by Cuba’s noted “son y mambo” music virtuoso Eikel Venegas.
No.6 was released in September 2016 and can be ordered via Amazon, iTunes, the Sid Griffin website, all good records stores and on Bandcamp at thecoalporters.bandcamp.com/
No. 6 Tracklisting;
The Day the Last Ramone Died
Save Me from the Storm
The Blind Bartender
Chopping the Garlic
Salad Days
Unhappy Anywhere
Train No. 10-0-5

Whatever format and context this song is played, it is a monument to pop music.
Brilliant! I also watched this planning to hate it, what a nice surprise that it was wonderful.
The violinist plays this beautifully she's the bomb🤙
I really really wanted to hate this but I just couldn't. Great cover version.
Same here. I'm not a big fan of country and I thought it would be weird with the slower tempo, but somehow they pulled it off. And I hated blink-182's cover of this.
I want to hate it too, but can’t
A good song is a good song
Exactly this!
Saw this, clicked on it with the intention of disappointment and uhh, it’s really good. Well done 👍 fantastic cover
The Only Ones would approve.
For Bloody Sure, I almost Never Played it, I don't Much Go on Covers, This Was Bloody Brilliant
So good, the Only Ones !
Good Company for Each Other🥰🥰🥰🥰
I always flirt with death
I look ill but I don't care about it
I can face your threats and
Stand up straight and tall and shout about it
I think I'm on another world with you
With you
I'm on another planet with you
With you
You get under my skin
I don't find it irritating
You always play to win
But I won't need rehabilitating, oh no
I think I'm on another world with you
With you
I'm on another planet with you
With you
Another girl, another planet
Another girl, another planet
Space travel's in my blood
There ain't nothing I can do about it
Long journeys wear me out but
I know, I can't live without it oh no
I think I'm on another world with you
With you
I'm on another planet with you
With you
Another girl, who's loving you now
Another planet, who's holding you down
Another planet
Thank you for writing down the lyrics. It is appreciated.
Just love that violin.
Well this was unexpected. Another song for my covid play list.
Always loved this cover. Who would have thought heroin addiction could be so inspiring. :-)
I have long maintained all the best bands do heroin at some time
I've always liked this song.
This is one insanely beautiful version
Never ever expected this
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👍❤️
Certainly a bit special, no doubt.. gonna have to investigate this lot some..
Loved this song for at least a million years. This is a fantastic cover.
I’ve been on another planet forever...
Beautiful arrangement - also makes you appreciate the lyrics.
Yes great point
It's just brilliant, well done everyone.
My favourite song redone fantastically!!
Adding the Facebook Coal Porters people watching this video (where we also have it uploaded) over 10,000 people have actually viewed this by Feb 17 2017. And in a little over a week! The guy singing it is Neil Herd, this arrangement was his idea, I was merely along for the ride. Yes, we will be doing this one live throughout our gigs in 2017. Hi, Peter Perrett, hope you are well! Andrew Stafford on bass, Paul "The Tasmanian Devil" Fitzgerald on banjo, on fiddle is Kerenza Peacock...she was on the Adele World Tour and has played with tons of famous folks. (I do not consider myself in that list, nope.)
Ah, Long Ryder, but you ARE.......I mean, c'mon.......JEM Records West. no?!? dbh
@@davehall8280 Yes, I worked at JEM.
@@sidgriffin813 JEM East for me: 1976-89, was in The Bees, also The Bounce (1978-81): + owned Skyclad/Grand Slamm/IceWorld/Skreamin' Skull (1985-93). Glad you're still doin' stuff!! dbh
@@davehall8280 Yep, that is me. I still play. The Coal Porters are over. I am a Long Ryder again and play solo. Or will when coronavirus is over.
Sid, I’ve been a long-time fan of The Long Ryders, but I’ve never been familiar with your work with The Coal Porters. So, discovering this gem on TH-cam was an unexpected pleasure! I’ll be checking out more of your recordings with the Coal Porters!
One of my favorite songs ever; I am always interested in hearing new covers. Fuck, this is so beautiful.
I,m as surprised as everyone else...love this version
oh....my...god.... this is sensational.
On se laisse emporter par cette mélodie. Bonne interprétation.

Amazed. Brilliant.
Love it! ❤❤
Just marvellous.
Excellent song. Talented musos. Sharp outfits. Nice.
FRIGGING ACE!!!
Hearing this version makes me think that it would go down well with the American C&W fans, I wonder who could be persuaded to do the cover?
Love this version
Just love this to bits.... Wonderful. :-)
This is most enjoyable. Great take on this tune.
Love it
Beautiful ...
They effin' nailed it!
Unexpected.
Awesome..😊
Brilliant version of one of the best ever songs ,but I've never noticed how similar the structure is to Waggon Wheel before though .Works really well .
Lovely thoughtful arrangement
Great!!!
Fab!
Love it! You have a new fan.
Sweet!
Lovely and unexpected.
Hey Sid. This is Bob Struthers we met at Stage Cach in Cali a few yrs back . Still following you.
Well done!
Brilliant
Excellent 👌👌
I've always thought the Greg Kihn version (w/ Joe Satriani) was the best cover of this song, but you've really made me rethink this. Very fresh!
❤️
Y'all got there before me. I've been wanting to do this song like this for years, 'cept in key of C which Neil has capo'd it to to play in E. Nice job. Goldarnit!
As elegant and heartbreaking as the original.
Please now cover ‘Greenland Whale Fisheries’ by the Pogues.
Not knowing about this revokes my Sid Griffin number one worshipper status.
Excellent cover. So different from The Only Ones.
Absa-fucking-lootly brilliant. There are tears of joy running down my face.
I love this. Up there with the Punch Brothers covering Just What I Needed, imho.
Have you ever thought of doing a Pledgemusic campaign guys? Would be great for some Long Ryders vinyl reissues
It´s irritating how he says irritating, being American. The song and their perfomance are superbe
So good, my second favourite version of this song after the Only Ones. Could we please see a version of Just Like Heaven and So long by Fischer Z ?.
I loved this song when it was released by the Only Ones back in the day. Found it on Spotify the other day and found I didn’t care for it the way I did. Seeing this treatment has reconnected me with it. Thanks guys!
e Coal Porters - Another Girl, Another Planet (L=CPAGAPL
I’ll pay that one.
I was two years above Pete Perret at boarding school….he was always a bit rebellious…but also a great footballer…always picked him even though he a nipper.
I was expecting an autoharp. I mean, people have digital tuners and they are in tune in modern times, or can be.
Thats fucking good!!! From Argentina un abrazo che!!!
I prefer the original version, but this is sure interesting.
Good lad Neil you certainly look Scottish how about a session at the Arc in Stockton on tees

WTF😊
Bizarre. Do they know all the imagery in the song is of heroin addiction?
With this instrumentation they should have busted into 'wagon wheel' by Bob Dylan/Old Crow Medicine Show and then 'prison bound' by social distortion xD
Shit Hot ! SadSociety ....................
This song is about heroin, btw....
They encore with Golden Brown by the Stranglers : )
Great version hillbilly heroin version helped keep peter perrit in heroin
Seriously needs to gtf!
That was toilet, and I suppose next you'll eff up the buzzcocks
You like Cockney Rebel. What to go, dude.
