A gentle spring rain makes tiny splashes and rings on the pond. The puppy chases her ball. I’m outside on the covered porch listening to this brilliant set by my favorite DSQ. Heaven on earth, friends. Heaven.
What a privilege to listen to this beautifully arranged and performed and aged sound......while living at the opposite latitude, here in Cape Town. Bless the internet!
I echo your sentiment. I live in the Old Deep South of the United States and do not have access to live music like this. These guys are outstanding musicians and the musical selections are gorgeous! I just put on my headphones and soak it up!
I discovered them today, after someone posted their NPR concert on Facebook and mused about how this stuff might have influenced Irish music. Whatever it is, this is soul-enriching.
I've been obsessed with Wood Works and Last Leaf for the past few months. Now arranging some pieces for my own quartet for violin, alto saxophone, bassclarinet and contrabass. Looking forward to play it; the music has such a beautiful soul and warmth to it. I just love listening to the two albums.
Outstanding! When music can make me tap my foot at one moment and cry at another, it is truly speaking to the heart. Bravo, DSQ! Greetings from Memphis, Tennessee...
I heard these guys on the radio a year or so back and was very taken with their arrangements of Scandinavian folk music and have sought it out since then. Would love to hear them live in the UK.
Reminds me a little of the traditional music played with violins, here, in Québec (Canada). Music of the North! There is a quartet that plays it in Beaumont's church (Bellechasse borough), Sunday, August 27th 2016.
Beautifully played, and on the CD a stunning recording. Such wonderful, interesting tunes that bring a tear to my eye. As someone else has commented, you'd swear you could hear an accordian, and I'm also getting the sound of pipes at times.
Being Irish-American, I am happily stunned to hear this music, played so beautifully, which resonates throughout the islands of your surrounding seas, including Ireland!
Wow!! Absolutely fantastic! Although I do think although the music in this set is played in a classical setting, their music on the stands is purely for effect as they are clearly playing all the music from memory in the truest folk tradition.
I wish their CD had the richness of sound you can hear in this live performance! The fullness of the baritone register and the sinewy overtones are thoroughly missed. Maybe it's a case for attending live performances, but I wish they'd hired the sound engineer from the Australian Chamber Orchestra...
The violist looks like such a badass with that hair and beard. He looks like he could play a Norse god in a movie. Also did he memorize the whole concert? It looks like he only had 1 page and never turned it the whole show. Surely the whole program couldn't be on one page?
+Zoopy Jobless The parts and scores are available here: www.edition-s.dk/music/the-danish-string-quartet/wood-works-the-complete-collection and you can get the cd here: www.dacapo-records.dk/en/recording-wood-works--the-danish-string-quartet.aspx
I am interested to see that for the Wood Works pieces in this concert the cellist was trying out playing from an electronic rather than a paper source. How did you get on with it?

Qui di seguito un misto di jazz, musica elettronica e musica seriale. they have the best hair of any string quartet.

Thank you for this beauty. Your music arrives in deeper parts of the soul
What a privilege to listen to this beautifully arranged and performed and aged sound......while living at the opposite latitude, here in Cape Town. Bless the internet!
And here I am in Fish Hoek, 2 years later, enjoying the same.

I discovered them today, after someone posted their NPR concert on Facebook and mused about how this stuff might have influenced Irish music. Whatever it is, this is soul-enriching.
I love it so much that I just ordered the complete score!!
One of the most profound and moving performances I have ever heard.
Beautiful music played beautifully. Thank you.

That waltz just changed my life. Thank you so much and congratulations on such an incredible sound!
Beautiful music... and the sound of this viola !
And he's actually chopping it on the jig - never seen anyone do that with a viola!
It sounds a million times more heavenly in person.
Outstanding! When music can make me tap my foot at one moment and cry at another, it is truly speaking to the heart. Bravo, DSQ! Greetings from Memphis, Tennessee...
Åh, så fint! Denna melankoli som griper tag...

Awesome job, guys! And thanks for recording it so we can attend on a virtual basis.

Very enjoyable! Wondering how the first violin gets the almost accordion-like sound ...
Des anges ❤
Bravo!!!!!
Absolutely delicious!

Rip my heart out
I find it pleasant to see the origin of Dreamers' Circus. [or is this the other way around?]
Please provide a link in the description to where I can purchase this. It's wonderful.

Let me know the song title after second explanation please
Tell us who made the lovely arrangements

so well done! Who is the arranger?
Arranged by themselves !
+FestivalWissembourg Who is themselves ?
+Olivierbayu Putra Jaquet That could be a very deep question I guess, but I think mainly Sorensen does the arranging.
The group is called Danish String Quartet, as per the video title
❤
Did he say wedding? it rather looks like nostalgic to me...
