Hi Lukas, yes it was a bit of a funny interaction with the staff there when they were curious what I was doing, lining up all the colors and filming. They were helpful and got behind the idea though. Keys too, thats a good idea, I lost my dremmil tool maybe I should use nailpolish on keys too!
It may be a good idea to clean the gear first. Not washing to remove dirt, but using a solvent to remove hand oils or grease from french fries that may reduce the adhesion of the nail polish. I use rubbing alcohol for almost all cleaning, such as keyboards, computer and phone screens, reading glasses, even my hands sometimes. Just put some alcohol on a tissue or napkin and wipe the area you want to clean. Another powerful solvent is naptha, one of the lightest and cleanest solvents. It is sold everywhere that sells cigarettes, under the brand name Ronsonol. Get the liquid stuff in the yellow plastic bottle, used in zippo lighters. not the aerosol kind used in butane lighters. Alcohol and naptha dissolve different things, naptha will remove sticky tape residue if you had once used tape on your gear. I put some ugly lime green paint on my pitons and biners in the 1960s, and somehow it is still there. Yes, I said pitons.
