I heard him quite a few times in NYC in recital and concerto. I got to know him when working at the Hotel Pierre in NYC where he always stayed when performing in the city. He was delightful and completely unpretentious man. Truly one of the greats of the 20th Century. I consider myself blessed to have heard and know him a bit.
I prefer this to the famous Horowitz recording from his 1965 return to Carnegie Hall. Cherkasskys little eccentricities somehow makes for interesting listening.
