Excellent video. Seth is a really good guest --- smart, articulate, speaks in a compelling way. I also really like your tour of the Upper West Side with Seth as the guest.
My favorite art work would probably be Picasso's portrait of Gertrude Stein. I've always liked this painting but couldn't explain exactly why. Interesting to listen to Seth explain the irregularities in the painting and how Picasso was breaking with Western tradition. Of the sculptures, it would probably be "The Vine" by Harriet Whitney Frishmuth, which you just showed in passing.
Love the way you laughed when Seth joked about being naked.
Haha. I would have guessed that the hidden ugly faces in Bronzino's "Portrait of a Young Man" meant that the artist thought the young man was a nightmare to work with. He does look arrogant.

Sorry about the double post. The first one looked like it had been censored. It would only appear if I signed in, so I assumed other people couldn't see it. I deleted the part about the Bronzino painting and the new post seemed to work. Now, after 5 hours, the old post suddenly pops up.

A few years ago I said I wanted to visit every single room at the Met.... It took me 6 hours 😬 and I wasn't going slowly, some rooms I would walk in, stay for 5 seconds and move on. I had to split it into 2 days because of how tired I was. The first day I took 3.5 hours just for the first floor, and the next day I did 2.5 hours for the second floor.

I laughed when I saw the title...the MET in 2 hours. I've been there a half dozen times and have yet to see a quarter of what's on display. My favorites are the Frank Lloyd Wright room, Henry the Eighth's armor as a young man next to his at an older, more portly stage in his life. Finally, the musical instruments museum is a wonder.

Phenomenal video. I am a member of the Met and also spend a few afternoons per month in those beautiful galleries surrounded by those priceless works of art. As a recently retired teacher in NJ it my great desire to get visitors to NYC away from Times Square and into museums like the Met. I always took my students to the Met and also to MOMA. Also it is good to know, especially in the hot summer that we have experienced recently, that the Asian art section is the coolest temperature wise in the museum. Also less people visit that section, so it is never crowded. It is a nice pleasant, quiet place to mentally regroup during your visit. Your former professor is a font of knowledge! Thanks for another great video filled with very valuable advice. De Elaine, la profe de NJ

I love this museum. It takes me more then two hours because I get so engrossed with the art. Art teachers are my favorite ones because they push me to look beyond what you see in front of you, and that challenges me. I have gotten frustrated with them but at the end of the semester I learn more. I love that you use your professor, and I would have love to have been in his class. He does the history and story behind the art. It helps you understand what you are seeing and appreciating. Does he give tour in the museum? Thx for sharing this.

We're headed back to NYC on Thursday. As many times as I've been to NYC, I've never been to the Met! Planning a visit this trip for sure, and what a wonderful coincidence I stumbled on this video this morning! Nicely done, I would love to see this become a series of art museum videos with your professor. He really pointed out interesting things which brought the works of art to life for me!!

Hi Teresa, The Met is an amazing addition to your travels. You can see so much of the world and take a walk through time all in one place. Also it abuts Central Park so you can take a stroll through there as well after or before.

    • @teresahoward7821

@projectgaiatravel as it turns out, we *did* end up going to the Met on that visit. And I fell IN LOVE with it! I told my husband that I could see myself going there over and over and over again, and I decided to become a Member! I have been back another time since, and we are currently on NYC again and going back to the Met today!!! Where has this incredible museum been my whole life?? 🤣

    • @ProjectGaiaTravel
      @ProjectGaiaTravel ปีที่แล้ว

@@teresahoward7821 I'm glad to hear that. It really is a gem of the world. If you're interested in smaller museums and NYC history- i also recommend the Museum of the City of New York further Uptown.
If you like medieval art- check out the Cloisters- its literally a medieval castle in NYC
And if you're interested in how immigrants lived when they first came to New York, check out the Lower East Side Tenement Museum- they take you through an old tenement with real apartments and show you the crowded and slummy conditions these people had to overcome.
      enjoy your time!

    Great video!!
I loved looking at the suits of armor there when I went as a kid.
I also remember reading a book in grade school about some kids who run away and live in the Met, I can’t remember what it was called but it was interesting.
A video similar to this for the Museum of Natural History would be cool too!

    • @ProjectGaiaTravel

Hey Being Kansai, the suits of Armor are my favorite. It's interesting to think about wearing them on the battlefield and how heavy they were and how daunting thousands of men wearing this charging at you would have been.

There was one other treasure at that museum, the gentleman with you. Omg I’m a car gear head and he had me fascinated. I hope you did a lot of video that day and have an extended version you could release. The insight he has makes you look at things in a total different way . Thank you I enjoyed my personal tour with you.

Very cool video. I lived on E83rd for some time, so the end of my street was the grand entrance. This was often my sanctuary to clear my head, or just decompress. Glad to hear the rooftop is still open, I haven't been post pandemic. It's always fun to walk out back in nice weather and explore The Obelisk. Oh, and the Rossi family that runs the hot dog carts out front are absolutely awesome!
