Storyline:
The Carletons make a living as card sharps and finding new suckers to mooch off of. When their latest scam backfires, they are asked to leave Monte Carlo. At the train station, they meet a kind old woman named Miss Fortune. The elderly lady is very wealthy and very lonely. As a reward for saving her life after the train derails, Miss Fortune invites the Carletons to come live with her. The family hopes that by winning her affection, they can eventually be named sole beneficiaries in her will. But will a change of heart soften their mercenary feelings before that time comes?

"What a treat and a surprise this film was! It deserves to be as highly regarded as The Awful Truth, it Happened One Night, and any top notch Romantic Comedy of the 30's. It had me laughing and tearing up. The quality of the production was top tier. Imagine using a clip from the train wreck (which was just a minor plot device) in a 1960's popular TV series. That is just one example of how 1st class this film is. Some of the scenes, particularly the father and son speculating over the construction site over how the workers could possibly be having any fun, and the father's horror at actually having to get a job along with the funeral procession to the door of the Flying Wombat dealership to take his position as a car salesman, are absolutely hilarious. (and not just hilarious "for its time.")
I won't add to the the praise of the actors from other reviewers. Just that I agree wholeheartedly.
It's not just another Romantic Comedy. It has drama and heart as well."

mr and mrs topper, were quite the couple in the 30's and 40's, too old for me, personally but i loved the comedy they made together, was there ever a biography done of them??? i'd like to see that some day ❤

I've watched this multiple times too - and will watch it more. The "Flying Wombat" scenes are a hoot - cross between a Karman Ghia and an XKE. This movie will twist your heart - if you got one ❤

Charming film with some fine performances. I think this is one of the Janet Gaynor's last films. Come here for Douglas Fairbanks Jr, but enjoyed it quite well.

As a child, we weren't allowed to watch TV during the daytime, apart from an "olden days" midday movie on Sundays. How I would have gotten my hopes up that it wasn't a movie just about boring men, during the intro sequence of this film!
