I think the reason so many think this is so creepy is because of the company and the games they make. Nintendo has always been know for it's bright colorful kid friendly happy games. So when your on the wii fit menu it just seems like normal happy Nintendo until you click on this mini game and it's dark dimly lit and no music with the only sounds being the candle,outside noises and creaking of floors from footsteps or running and just some genuinely scary noises. There are even some rare noises that I have heard that they might as well be jump scares. Also the fact that you can't move and it feels like your just locked in place and you are anticipating the man to yell at you. It's just a massive shift in tone for Nintendo games and that's what makes stuff like this in Nintendo games so scary I think.

This freaking game always frustrated the heck out of me. I could barely go even 10 seconds without hearing “KATSU!!!”
It was scary too! I remember my first time trying it out.
i played this when i was like 12 and younger. i’m 20 now and it still gives me the creeps … like i can’t believe it’s still just silence afterwards …
