Phil Tougas has got to be the most ridiculously proficient metal guitarist alive today. He plays more notes in more bands than just about anybody I can think of - watching him play is almost sickeningly humbling at times. I can’t even think of who I’d rate him a class above most of the tech death metal guitarists on the scene today - none of them can play lead like Phil. Super unique tone and style as well.
I saw that fretboard in the thumbnail and knew it was Phil Tougas, and was honestly not surprised to see Hugo. I feel like every musician in this scene from Quebec has played in a band with one another and that they make up half of the technical deathmetal genre. It really is fascinating
That’s just a Schecter JL-7 right? Is he the only famous person other than Jeff Loomis using that guitar? I’m asking because it’s the guitar I have, but never figured they were uncommon enough to be distinctive.
And the band members are in various different tech death bands, it might not be death metal but chuck some growls over it and it’s pretty much a first fragment song

I'm sorry but Beyond Creation are so much better musically it's not even a fair comparison. These guys are complete monsters, but I don't listen to this music regularly because it feels like it has been written for technicality's sake, and it gets boring after a while.
Jesus, the two men and the person playing drums are so damn good. This was composed and performed so nicely that I’m going to have to listen to it many times just to appreciate each musician’s contribution to this song.
