With the Americans firing full broadsides against the Germans only firing the forward turrets, the outcone is not surprising.

The outcome is never surprising if one side is controlled by a player who is not completely incompetent and the other side is controlled by AI. I have watched videos like this on different channels now long enough to know, that the side controlled by the payer always wins, well, if the odds are not completely stacked against the player, like fighting 6 AI battleships with just one battleship, or something like this.

So, it is readily apparent that neither the player(s) nor the AI know about the concept of "Zone of Immunity", defined as the maximum range at which flat fire just fails to penetrate a ship's armor belt, and the minimum range at which plunging fire just fails to penetrate the deck armor, against a specified type of shell. In the case of the North Carolina class, their immune zone was about 21,000-32,000 against 15-inch shells. In battle, therefore, the North Carolinas would endeavor to stay within that immune zone to minimize the odds of their citadels being penetrated. The Bismarck class, for its part, had a zone of immunity of 12,000-23,000 yards against 2700-lb. 16-inch rounds. So, the notion that both sides would attempt to close the range at the very beginning of the engagement is not very realistic.

For almost the entire battle the German ships were trying to close the gap with their bows pointed at the U.S. ships, thereby, limiting their fire to just there front batteries. No way would they have done that. They would have brought as many guns to bear as possible. Not very realistic but I do appreciate the effort.

Something I noticed here that I'd missed in previous viewings. In the reality of the battle the ships are constantly moving, not actually stopping and starting as required by the turn based game system. Despite this, when the ships "stop" to fire, any smoke, whether from the funnels or on-board fires, instead of continuing to flow toward the stern of the ship sue to its forward motion instead starts to billow straight up, as if the ship has actually come to a halt. Cracked me up when I realized it.
