After 2.5 years of waiting, I finally was approved to move into a HUD subsidized senior apartment. The rent goes according to my income, even if I have zero income, and the utilities are included. I was told I would move in on 10/8/24, but there was a delay in having the apartment inspected by a 3rd party. The inspection is due to take place today, 10/10/24, so I can move in next week. It’s inconvenient to live with my current apartment in chaos, with everything packed up. The new place is in the suburbs, in a quiet community, that will be beneficial for me as an artist. I sell my work, and I’m preparing to have an exhibit. I haven’t seen my new apartment yet, so I have to trust it is as good and functional as the place I’m moving out of, which is no longer affordable for me. If I turn down this new apartment, I won’t be offered another one. I’m grateful to finally get the help I need, and in a thriving location. I may have to downsize my belongings, but gaining peace and a wealth of artistic opportunities will be worth it. I’ve been in my current place for 4.5 years, and look forward to change, as well as the health and financial successes I expect it to bring.
