One of my top Pink Floyd songs. When it shifts from the intro to the lyrics, you FEEL it in your heart and soul. You feel the strength of it in your body. It's a beautiful thing.

This song scared the crap out of me in my twenties. The clocks are important to the introduction, but the heartbeat in the background that increasingly beats faster as the vocals approach, is a subtle touch. They are Masters. I've probably listened to this over 1,000 times in my life and it never gets old. (unlike me). It's 'Time" to change that smoke alarm battery. ;)

Pink Floyd was formed in London in 1965. Their early influences came from blues music. Even their name is blues-related; they came up with the name Pink Floyd in recognition of 2 Black American southern blues musicians named PINK Anderson and FLOYD Council. Pink Floyd turned out an incredible collection of music over the years.

It's so lovely to watch someone falling into the Floyd for the first time. I vividly remember hearing them for the first time back in 1972, making my older sister hand over her copy of Meddle and listening to Echoes over and over again to try and work out why it affected me so much. As for song recs - just pick an album, any album, and let it steal your soul away. My own, personal favourites are Meddle and Animals but, probably, Dark Side and Wish You Were Here are easier to get into.

    • @cdjonesus
      @cdjonesus 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

After the Dark Side of the Moon, Echoes was the next thing to listen to. The Meddle ablum was when I figured out that Pink Floyd finally figured out how to use the synthesizers to come up with some good songs. I really didn't enjoy anything before that.

    • @Spitzo

      Meddle goes so hard

    • @musiccer7446
      @musiccer7446 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Both animals and meddle don’t necessarily require you to listen to it in one go (especially meddle). I prefer DSOTM because it’s one big piece without any disturbances. I like that.
I don’t think it necessarily easier to get into. Meddle has some very lighthearted parts on the first side and animals is overall enjoyable.
The amount of „strange“ parts is about same in all of these albums so I wouldn’t say it’s easier to get into DSOTM

  • @reptarshane

There is nothing fake about pink floyd. There music is driven by emotion. They will impact you in ways that you thought were not possible . They will save you and guide you and surround you. They will rip your heart out but comfort you. I am a perfectionist pink floyd is perfect. Once you go pink floyd nothing else matters. It's is called the Pink Floyd Sound or effect. CONGRATULATIONS you have nailed it with your thoughts on music.

They are a life changing band to listen to. Their catalog of songs and albums are extensive. Been listening to them since high school in the 80's, and I will be listening to them when I'm in my 80's. Consider doing the whole Dark Side of the Moon album in one listen. It's about 45 minutes long. Break up your video into pieces if you feel you have to. It is more than just listening to music, it's a mindset

    • @terryplatt8115
      @terryplatt8115 3 ปีที่แล้ว

No, please try not to break it up iinto pieces if possible. The album is best experienced as a complete entity from start to finish - like life itself, really. The old saying 'The whole is greater than the sum of it's parts' was/is never more apposite than with DSOTM. And whatever stimulant you want will enhance it immeasurably (as we all used to do back when it was first released). (Public health warning: As long as it's not one of the destructiively toxic ones).

I was about to leave when you asked about my opinion of this song.
To me, Pink Floyd has a different kind of vibe, i remember when i was 6yo back in Brazil listening to it with my father. Saturday's and Sundays, i used to wake up by 6am and go to my father's vinil collections and get a different album every time.. but every time i choose PinkFloyd, i remember dad waking up and coming to the room to listen to it with me.. we used to mumble the songs and dance (back at the time, nor Dad or I was English oriented, so we had no idea what the meaning of the lyrics was). I remember how i felt in every moment.
My family wasn't a church going family, so i never really believed in God.
Yesterday, i was at the gym running on a treadmill and thinking about how i was running for health.. looking around, i was surrounded by people looking for the same thing, running against time to feel healthy and stay on this earth for more time and in a better health and body.. it was when i, by instinct, played Time..
Those lyrics spoke to me, i knew what i had to do after i finished my run.. early that day, a friend ha called me out of nowhere just to ask where i was and what i was planning for the day. He has a soccer jersey that i bought from him. He's waiting for me to go and pick it up for 2 months. At the end of the call, he said: "bro, you can come anytime, but at night I'm going to the church with my wife and I'll not be able to meet you."
That stayed in my mind until i heard the last paragraph of this song.
" Far away across the field
The tolling of the iron bell
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spells"
After that, i text him asking him if i could join him and his family later that day to go to church, i was, for 16 long years, away from God, when he spoke to me through a PinkFloyd song that my father and i used to dance to in our limited time together.
Last year, my father died, i bet with you that my dad and God have been working together to call me since he joined heaven. I was too blind to see, but now im awake. Glory to the Lord
God bless you brother, keep listening to PinkFloyd. Every single song will hit you deep! I recommend the song Great Gig in the Sky.. but you should listen to the whole album, The Dark Side of the Moon.

So beautiful to see your reactions! This band, especially this song, had followed me through my teenage. There was this day back in 1989 when my parents called me and my brother to the living room to watch "Pink Floyd Live in Venice". At those days, only 3 TV-programs were available here, so no discussions had arised. We all watched and listened to it that evening... ;) Pink Floyd is indeed special, so I'm happy to see that it still might touch young people. Greetings from Hamburg in Germany and wishing you all a wonderful Christmas time in love and health. *hugs* Katrin (46 yrs.)

Imagine getting this on a cassette tape back when you are in freshman high school in 1973. You're friend says he dosent like this group. This is what happened to me. From that point on, I couldn't wait for each release of a Pink Floyd album. Usually on cassette tape, but sometimes my friend would have it on a record. Back then, I believe that one of my friends had the Dark Side of the Moon album in quadraphonic. He had a player that would play it. Imagine having a few and toking a few and listening to that. It was amazing. Glad to have been around when the albums were first release to experience that. I graduated high school in 1977, the year Pink Floyd Animals album was released. Another great album. The wall in 1979 was excellent. I sort of lost touch with the band due to the breakup later, but I have really enjoyed them.
It is cool to see people in the younger generations discover the great music that I experienced when growing up. Nothing right now 2010 - present really excites me. I like rage against the machine, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai ets, but the newer music just doesn't have the soul of the classic rock.
The thing I like is when the person reacting to the song gets the message of the song. You did. Sometimes they just talk about the instruments and the playing, but this song it is about the message of time and how it is precious and if you don't pay attention to it, it will slip away and then you will be wondering where it went. Great reaction,.

They changed my life more than fourt years ago. They are and will always be my most favorite band. Nightwish and Ayreon follow.
Listen carefully to the lyrics and try to remember them. Then play this song, at least, every five years and compare your life to the lyrics.
You’ll find out they came true more or less😔.
A lot of albums are concept albums. Listen to them in order of songs to understand the story.
    Recommended concept albums:
    Wish you were here
    Animals
    Dark side of the moon
    The Wall.
Best song ever: Echoes; the b-side of the album Meddle. Try the studio version first. A lot of the subtle things get lost in the live version.
Best live album: Pulse. Best guitar solo ever: comfortable numb; pulse live.

Actually thought it was my smoke detector going off, somehow I think Pink Floyd fans would like it as part of the show. You don’t listen to Pink Floyd you experience them.I’ve been privileged to grow up with Pink Floyd. 1) that makes me extremely fortunate. 2)unfortunately it makes me very old. I been very lucky to also have seen them live three times. So I’m going to suggest , Comfortably Numb Live 1994 Pulse concert, every song they do is a journey, the entire Dark Side of the Moon it’s my most cherished album for this old metal/rock head but for some one new to Pink Floyd this is the closest I can get you a ticket for a concert experience. Rock On Stay Safe!🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘

To think in two years time (no pun intended) this album will be half a century old and is as relevant today as it was then.

Sorry ahead of..time.. lol.. I didn't see the lyrics shared so...
Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
Fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your hometown
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way
Tired of lying in the sunshine, staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long, and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
And you run, and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death
Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say
    Home, home again
I like to be here when I can
And when I come home cold and tired
It's good to warm my bones beside the fire
    Far away across the field
The tolling of the iron bell
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spells

Welcome to the magical world of Pink Floyd. They should be listened to without pausing as you won't have copyright problems with them...sit back and relax. Their lyrics are always deep and meaningful so I suggest you always have the lyrics drawn up. Dark Side Of The Moon is a masterpiece that can change your life literally. Also, have a listen to Comfortably Numb...first the studio version and then the live Pulse concert version that contains the greatest guitar solo in music history. ENJOY!

The next time you listen to Floyd , make your comments at the end , Pink Floyd is not like a pop song , it is an experience , listen to the story, mellow out , and go deep within yourself . it's an emotional journey . no stop go stop go

great band. their albums are meant to be enjoyed in the complete form. a single pink floyd song, while amazing, loses something out of context in the album. you should do the whole album at once, then break it up to release on yt.
