I have the 270 LT from OVS and just used it for the first time on the trail. Did a 12 day trip through the San Juan's in CO and used it everyday at camp. Lots of coverage easy setup and tear down. It rained everyday and all the guy lines made it easy for it to shed the rain! Northridge 4x4 was way cheaper than the OVS site and was delivered in two days. This was 3 weeks ago.
Thanks for sharing. When we bought ours, it was back ordered everywhere including Northridge and OVS for 4-5 weeks, which is why we would up buying it used. Nice to hear the inventory issue is better now. Sounds like an awesome trip!!! Did you use the extra support legs in the rain??
Are you happy with the 270 LT? I’m considering the 270 or 270 LT- not sure if the 50% price increase (with walls) is worth it to get the 270. Are you happy with the 270 LT? Does it provide enough shade?
@@Venture2Roam not sure if you still have it but would you be interested in selling it when upgrading to the 270. I run a vehicle with a vertical rear hatch door so it would be perfect for my application…
@@davidrucci Hi David - I sold this awning a few months ago when my 270 came in the mail. A buddy of mine called dibs on it like 2 months before my new one arrived lol.
I have this same awning and I love it. Great coverage, super fast setup and teardown, and good quality for the money. Totally agree with all your points! Great review!
Great review! One tip that is small but I've found useful with awnings, run the zippers to the back of the awning. Then when you're driving with your window down, you don't hear the zippers jingling
I too have zipped the fabric up and now when I get to the tight spot in the center I put my finger on the top side of the zipper in between it and the fabric as I zip that area. That and it didn't look like you fold the bottom front end of the awning if you fold a triangle once towards the top before rolling it they tarp is distributed out better and not as tight.
Great review… one tip, the Velcro holding the poles furthest away from the vehicle are supposed to hold the bar only. Only the one (other) strap is needed for the poles. 👍🏼
Thanks Matt!! It’s only our third gear review video, so we’re still experimenting…glad you liked the multi angle shots…it was a fun puzzle to put together!
Great stuff, Will. I have the OVS 270, and it has the same "preggo snake" issue.....the very center is VERY tight!!!! I however, love the 270 and would highly recommend it.
I think we'll wind up with the 270. I just have to remind myself to "slow down" when zipping that middle section. I do like that it's a snug fit in general though. Thank you so much for watching!!!
Great video. Was looking into this awning. What particularly would you want in the 270 vs the 180? The shade over your back of your jeep? They seem to be the same price now.
Great video Will. 270 would’ve been nice. A couple of my friends have them. I think that’s only reason why I would get a platform system so I can have an awning on the Jeep
Thanks Gee! I'm still pining for a 270, even though the 180 is really great. We have the Rhino Rack platform, which is pretty low profile and still let's up take the top off the Jeep just as easy as before we had it...but did have to drill through my roof 😳.
@@Venture2Roam Yeah I mean if the 180 is doing it’s job then the 270 can wait unless a company sponsors you one 😉. Yeah I was thinking of getting the same rack setup where it allows for the driver/passenger roof can be taken off. I was actually thinking of replacing the driver/passenger roof with the retractable soft top eventually but will be for a later upgrade down the line lol 😂
@@GeefromBC Ya man with our Rhino Rack, the freedom panels come off easy as well as taking the whole thing off. Works just like before, which is hard to come by in a rack. There are drawbacks too - but in the summer, whenever we're not overlanding, that top is hanging from the ceiling in my garage :)
I have the OVS 270 LTE on the drivers side and the OVS 180 LTE on my passenger side, yes I have to pull down on the 270 a liftle bit to get the 180 over it, then just attach the rope to loops on the 270, and you talking about a lot of shade
How is this holding up? Does rain pool on the top? I have one of their manual pole basic awnings and water pools on top...I can't seem to get it tight enough. Thanks!
Water pooling is an issue. I had to use guy lines as rain channels, but it still pooled a bit. Probably not the best option for someone who has a lot of rain.
@@Venture2Roam We have 5th Gen 4Runner. We are nervous the 180 LTE would be too shallow/small for 4 people with a mediums size camp table and some chairs, but also worried about amount of shade we would get with the smaller one. Also, not sure if gas milage would be drastically different between the two sizes. Would love your additional thoughts.
@@Venture2Roam Also, does the built quality of the LTE you got seem weaker than the standard one? I’m nervous the lighter parts used might lack in durability. I’m also thinking the smaller one might be easier to deploy in smaller areas with trees or rivers around though 🤔

Much easier if you remove the poles and fold in half first. Forget folding them up and velcro'ing.. Tucking over the top really turned the corner for re-packing! So much easier now!@@Venture2Roam
While we don't use this awning every time we go out, we're really glad to have it when we need shade or rain cover. What awning to you use and why???
Thats an awesome awning. I went with 23zero 270

it also lets the water run out the back if any rain water gets in there

Just ordered. If I had a jeep, the 270 would definitely be a want. I drive a 4Runner, that rear gate makes the 270 moot.
Ya it's tough to pop that bad boy up with a 4Runner gate..but the 180 is still a ton of coverage.

Thank you! It was fun to try a multi cam set up on this vid. The awning is still holding up nicely too 😀
Can you provide a video on how it's mounted onto your roof rack?
I have since sold this rack to a buddy..but it was very straightforward. Just two OVS brackets bolted to my rack.
Would a third velcro strap in the center make the zip up easier? Generic versions are widely available. Is there a way to add one?
Maybe. It would be worth a shot anyway.
Hmm..one of those would work well for my small patio on my house..
Interesting idea!
Nice review! How is it at collecting rainwater for whiskey?
I think we need to conduct a test to find out.
So do they come with brackets for the roof rack or ? Is it something we have to order apart.
I think they come with standard brackets, but check the website just to be sure.

How does it work in the rain? Does it shed the water ok?
Just ok. You have to tie guy lines to create water channels, but it does pool a bit.
Who makes the ratchet straps you use to tighten the awning?
They come with the awning.
How far apart are the brackets? OVS won't provide this specification. Thx.
They are adjustable. You can slide them along the mounting plate to adjust their width.
