It’s so strange how the writers of the anime and the musicals equated Grell’s fangirling over men she finds attractive to that of a gay man’s and characterized her as such when the creator of the series herself equated it to that of a woman’s without even knowing the proper terminology for what a “man with the heart of a maiden” was (that being a trans woman) And yes, I agree with the rest of the video too! Very good analysis 👍
I'm glad that someone's mentioned Grell's internalised misogyny. Madam Red and Lizzie have it too, but the latter expresses it in a selfdestructive way while Madam Red and Grell are more outwardly destructive.
When I got into Black Butler, I already had the pre-existing knowledge that Grell is a trans woman, but not much else, because I saw her mentioned in a discussion about representation. Coming in with that knowledge I found it very interesting how confident Grell appears to be about her body but not so much her face... Most of the cis girls I was growing up around were actually like that, fine with bodies but very anxious about faces. Of course it could be a cultural thing, but I found her very relatable in relation to the girls I've known. I've also found her clothing choices personally relatable. I always want my face masculine, but I do enjoy clothes that make me look very feminine sometimes, quite literally the trans guy version if whatever the hell Grell is doing with the clothes. I do think people often underestimate how dysphoria can affect the face...
@@adish1401 I also care more about my face than the rest of the body. The face is the first thing people see. I plan to get my facial masculinization surgery first, then the other ones. The clothes I usually wear don't expose my body that much, so the face is my priority.
