      Mechanics are scum…..should not exist.

    There used to be a gold time in aviation. Three crew members was a real reliable flight crew. My 30 years on 5 types on aircraft as FE used to be a real happiness!!!

    I was a flying crew chief on the C-5B at Dover Afb De in the early 1990's. Back then you had to be a E-5 SSGT or higher in order to be a flight engineer. The young lady was a A1C or E-3.

      I was a 7 level, SSGT crew chief before I became an FE. It's interesting to see an A1C as an FE.

      The rule was that you had to cross train from a maintenance career field. Usually one was a SrA or SSgt before they were eligible to cross train. Perhaps this A1C was once a SSgt. One doesn’t always go up in rank. I’ve been out for about a decade now, so perhaps it’s no longer a rule.

    so it's now 2024.....the flight engineer position has been long since eliminated on civilian airliners. I'm not up to date on the military though.....does the USAF anticipate that FE's will still be used in the near future on multi engine ac? got a recruiter talking to my son about this as his MOS.

    I've never seen an A1C as a flight engineer.Are they letting Airmen through the pipeline become engineers now?Is that unique to reservist or can they do that on active duty now too?I wondering because I'm a former flight engineer myself.

      +tstutts74 a1c's can be f.e.s if they have pilots or mechanics license. guard/reserve also are more lenient. you can be a f.e. in af without maintenance background nowadays. flown with some that crosstrained from med or finance.

    • @InFamousAlex209
      @InFamousAlex209 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      There’s the new high school to flight school program, so no prior enlistment or flight licenses are needed, you get sent to a maintenance course (E&E for me) before you go to basic FE course.

      After HS I visited with my local Air Guard recruiter several times. The unit has C-130s but they did not accept flight engineers right out of Tech School. The recruiter said they recruit engineers from the different mechanical disciplines and that is only after they had many years in service first. If you were enlisted and wanted to fly in that unit out of the gate load master was really the only option. I appreciate the recruiter being totally up front with me.

    as a reserve flight engineer, other than the monthly weekend + 15 days, are you expected to work a certain amount of time per month to maintain status? Also, I know this probably varies, but anyone reading this that knows about this particular afsc, how many times a year do you guys deploy?

      That's a question of the type of aircraft you're assigned to. I was an active duty flight engineer on C 5s at Dover. C 5s do not deploy, but they do go on missions which last anywhere from one to three weeks at a time.

    I have seen a few videos where I see enlisted personnel who have bachelor's degrees and on occasion master's degrees as well. I am wondering why they have not become officers at this point? Is it because they do not wish to, or is it some other reason? I always assumed that a person with a bachelor's degree would become an officer due to the greater pay and rank.

    • @AirForceReserveRecruiting
      @AirForceReserveRecruiting  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It always depends on a number of factors, but a member does not HAVE to become an officer just because they have a college degree.
