Another great video Matt. Regarding your observation that this is not classic rumba from Cuba, that is correct but in this case it is a different kind of rumba-flamenco rumba that comes from the traditional flamenco music of the gypsies from Andalucia in southern Spain. Especially if we turn pay attention to the clapping and stomping that we hear here, which together with the guitars is the sound of flamenco music. So it is justified to have the word rumba in the title of the song.
Congratulations Matt. You are fantastic player and teacher. Thank you so very much for this informative and entertaining lesson. You explain and demonstrate everything so very well in a "no nonsense" clear and concise approach. Greetings from Australia!
Thank you for this, I totally need to unlock the upper octave. I am doing some exercise but nothing beats the feeling that come back when you’re playing real music.
one of my favorite tunes!! but I have to confess: I've never learned to play the melody up the octave the second time, I guess this is my cue to get back in the shed. absolutely LOVE your stuff Matt
This is such a great channel. Thanks a ton Matt. I have been learning double bass for the past 7 months, thanks to your rhythm changes video and minor blues video i was able to quickly land some gigs and succeed. Thank you.
If I remember correctly, I have hear Eddie Gomez and Bunny Brunel play this with Chick!?!? I had actually forgotten about the Staley Clarke original version. In any event, thanks so much for your excellent tutelage! Very well done!!!
@@LearnJazzBasswithMattRybicki I played trumpet through college (Towson with Hank Levy). My favorite albums all have great bass. Chick Corea's Friends with Eddie Gomez, Heath Brothers At the Public Library (Percy of course), Steps Ahead Eddie Gomez, and Maynard Ferguson 4 and 5 Live at Jimmie's with Rick Petrone playing Stay Loose with Bruce.
yea lots of Brazilian music is 2/4 where the second beat is emphasized, a percussion player (pandeiro etc) will slightly mute the 1st, let the 2nd ring out
I’m interested to know what strings you ended up with. You strategically don’t show any of the silk windings. 😂 I initially chimed in on your first video of the Shen strapped with TS medium.
@@ericatanas2481 oh not showing windings was purely accidental. I went back to Spiro super flexible and Oliv G. Until I get my new bass from Upton - super excited for that
Sounds great! New Upton, eh?! I have a fully carved Brescian from Gary. Beautiful bass and sounds amazing. Gary antiqued the entire bass. I would love to share. Do you have an email address? by the way, what did you end up getting from Gary?
Off topic, but it made me laugh a lot. In Italy it is a classic from the fifties (Renato Carosone). th-cam.com/video/BR0LwOq_J9w/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared

Thanks Matt. A great line and a rhythm I am not closely familiar with. I live in Huntersville, NC. Where are you from in NC?
Thanks for watching - I moved to the Winston-Salem area 3 years ago after 26 years living and working in Manhattan. I'm enjoying it!
Damn…I’ve never heard this tune, until today. This comment is before listening to the original song.
Oh man you've gotta check out the original!
