- Les Teriyaki Boyz s'étaient fait connaître au début des années 2000 et s'étaient fait une réputation à l'étranger grâce au titre "Tokyo Drift" pour le film de la saga 'Fast&Furious'. Le titre méconnu "I Still Love H.E.R." produit par et en featuring avec Kanye West a eu droit à un show live sur la chaîne japonaise Music Station le 26 janvier 2007, seulement deux jours après la sortie du single.

Every big American musician in 2021 jumping on the K-Pop wave, meanwhile Kanye was rocking with the East in Japan a decade earlier. Him & Pharrell showed the Teriyaki boys love from the start
They did show love but during those times 2000-2010 the Japan took the US by storm through its cartoons,cars,fashion and technology. It was seen as Korea is today. It was crazy how people used to import flip phones from Japan back in the day just cuz how it advanced it were compared to ours. Miss those times. If you rewatch movies from those times you’ll find plenty with Japanese references like Kill Bill and Fast and Furious, Cartoon Network was in it as well.
There were some artists doing that even earlier, such as De La Soul and the Def Jux folks through Shing02. Really cool history stuff
Whole decade earlier it was all about J-Pop. If you listen to popular J-pop from mid 2000s it was almost all inspired by hip-hop at the time, and lot of western media had japanese flair to it, this was back when Fast and Furious hopped on the bandwagon too with Tokyo Drift. Those were good times. It happened mainly because you couldn't watch an anime without hearing some banger J-pop theme, and you couldn't be a kid in mid-2000s coming home without watching some anime. Hello Kitty was even a household name in the west, kids rocking tamagotchis everywhere, BAPE was considered cool. Then somehow things just changed. Think the whole 2008 crash just messed up everyone's mental, but also the internet changed a lot as well, customization and discoverability became a lot harder and you just couldn't express yourself as much, let alone find out about the rare interests of other people on the other side of the world. Also, a lot of the sources that promoted Japanese interests and media just started dying out, things like Toonami. People just stopped thinking about it. Eventually, K-Pop groups like BIGBANG started getting popular in 2010 and onwards, and people started looking more into K-drama and K-pop, snowball effect happened and eventually we got BTS-era. Personally I miss ~2005-era J-pop, RIP SLYME, Shing02, m-flo, Morning Musume, L'arc en Ciel, Miyavi, etc. Nostalgic era.

@@willcarroll9762 To be honest, I hope losing the presidency and having what is hopefully just a scare with his wife will amount to a reality check, comes off like he's living in some sort of deluded fantasy where he can do whatever he wants without any friction, like he's been surrounding himself with yes men instead of healthy relationships who are actually going to keep him focused instead of creating unsustainable amounts of controversy and poorly received work.
Of course, someone's state of mind comes first, and he seems fairly well right now, but eventually, we've got to burst that bubble.

Japan music company's actually prefer you to buy physical media. It makes them more money then having people stream it. That's why if you listen to other Japanese artists their music isn't available on Spotify as well.

@@WT83 they've been adding a lot more to streaming recently. The pandemic caused CD sales to go down, so they had to switch it up. I think anime OP and outro are more mainstream now, so that's why it's available on Spotify so easily. I don't know if you're into other Japanese artists, but there's a lot you won't find Spotify as well. One of my favorite bands only recently had their music put on Spotify and they've had music out for years. I usually had to resort to TH-cam to listen to them and other of my favorite Japanese artist. Of you look into Japanese music business it might make more sense to you. Their music business is kind of archaic.
