Gotta love how WW isn't about being the hero, but about showing the whole Great Sea (and underwater Hyrule) nobody fucking kidnaps your sister and goes away with it.
The Helmaroc King's defeat cutscene is probably my favorite in the whole game. It stumbles away after the final blow and tries to fly away, and all of the guards notice something's going on and train their spotlights on it, only to see it perish. That combined with the fact that the Helmaroc King was such a big threat early on. For some reason, I always get choked up when I watch it.
You can just by the way link looks at him before the battle when he appears he’s thinking “Now it’s time avenge my sister being stolen. ON MY BIRTHDAY.”

Hey, maybe they'll have something like it (maybe just a "helmaroc" instead of the King) in Tears of the Kingdom! Seems likely given the aerial setting in the trailer.
I’m so ashamed I didn’t notice this myself… At 0:31, Link is looking at the Master Sword in relief, because the sword starts quivering when he’s too nervous to enter the room. It’s like Fi is trying to reassure him that he’s not alone, and that he should get moving and rescue his sister while he can. All these years, I thought he was just looking around and smiling because the Helmaroc King didn’t come swooping in like last time.
Helmaroc King is the best zelda boss. too many zelda bosses are confined to a single room in a dungeon with no clear indication of what they've even done. king helmaroc is such a constant antagonistic force throughout the first half of the game and there's real emotional weight and development behind your encounters the forsaken fortress is just REALLY good and helmaroc king is part of that of just like. the first time you visit there you feel so helpless. you're not a hero, you're some kid trying to save his sister and have very little means of defending yourself and are ultimately not able to do ANYTHING to king helmaroc that he just toys with you then tosses you away to die. there's also a degree of like, anger that he drags your sister into this in the first place when she has nothing to do with zelda or the triforce and then when you go back to the forsaken fortress instead of hiding and being captured you've become a hero, been to hyrule and wielding the master sword and cutting down the enemies and when you reach the top, the upcoming fight against helmaroc feels less like a threat and more like you have the upper hand and are settling a score because this boss isnt just some monster in a room, this is personal. people sometimes complain about the fight against helmaroc being too easy but i honestly feels like it works in the sense that you are way tougher now and this villain who has personally antagonized you for so long is now struggling just to keep up with your strength. and then when you break the helmet and see the comedic weak comb underneath, the creepy glowing eyes gone, you really feel that helmaroc is truly weaker than you and all the intimidating poise it carried is gone
the way helmaroc's defeat works in the whole view of the forsaken fortress and the search lights that dogged you for so long when you were a helpless little kid feels so triumphant. it just captures link's growth so well. it also works really well with the scene right after where you then attack ganondorf with the confidence that you crushed his second in command but even then youre nothing compared to ganondorf and are just barely bailed out before he kills you . it just impresses me how much story is told between these two characters with no dialogue. helmaroc king is the fuckng best
I think probably this is one of the best fights in the entire Zelda franchise. The way it's hyped up from the very beginning of the game makes it such a satisfying boss to take down and I don't think Link had ever been given such a personal reason to defeat a boss before this, since this thing kidnapped his sister. It's not even anything to write home about gameplay wise it just feels so awesome to fight.
Imo one of the best boss fights in this game, possibly even the entire franchise. Established from the beginning of the game, kidnaps your sister, flings you out to die at sea. A pretty much constant nemesis for the first half of the game being Ganondorf's pet bird pretty much lol. His overall design is sick with and without the mask, the fight being in two phases is great and it is so satisfying when you finally get to kill him.
Your opinion is horrible because this fight isn't even that difficult or memorable. There are several boss battles leagues ahead of this one in the franchise, like the entire Stalfos King fight in TP or the bull chase in MM. You're basically just watching a cutscene with a movable camera in this Helmaroc king fight.
@@Ponyj0 Don't let this gut talk you down. This fight is definitely one of the best in the Zelda franchise. Difficulty wise this fight is about as easy as the rest of the fights in this game. Tbh I've never found any Zelda boss to be that difficult. But you put it best with how this bird felt to us. He truly feels like a threat from the start and up until we battle him, making his death all the more satisfying :)
What makes this the best boss fight is that it was personal. It wasn’t just another boss defending its temple, but a POS bird that stole your sister, taunted you, and threw your ass across the sea after trying to save her. This was a kill that was long overdue.
This and the molgera fight blew my mind as kid. I thought it was so cool that the fight took place overlooking Forsaken Fortress and the sea, rather than just be in a closed off room
If Link could speak, he’d maybe execute the big bird by dismembering him while listing his crimes, akin to Ren when he slayed the Dancing Grimm at the end of RWBY Vol 4. I imagine Link saying something like this as he hacks apart the Helmaroc King: “This is for ruining my birthday. This is for making my grandma literally sick with worry. This is for kidnapping my sister. And this is for your pesky little friends.” In fact, if Aryll was returned as soon as the Helmaroc King and Ganondorf figured out that she was the wrong girl, they would’ve won. And when killing the four Blights, I told them that I did it for the Champions they murdered. And when I defeated Dark Beast Ganon, I said, “And that’s for Hyrule.”
Alright, let me put it this way. You say that the Link and Zelda from Wind Waker have more character than the rest of the series combined. I am saying that the Link and Zelda from Skyward Sword, Spirit Tracks and Breath of the Wild are superior to them in that regard.
@ivangelion030366 I have to agree. Some of the bosses are huge, no denying, so your probably expecting some huge epic battle. But then it turns out the huge monster is piss easy to defeat. thankfully, that doesn't seem to happen to often, least not to me. But your right, that's the only thing I dislike too. The bloom ruined it for me too. Bloom causes a loss of visual fidelity by blending the color of objects at their geometry's border, which is exactly the opposite of high definition. There's no point in increasing resolution if all you're going to do is use that extra space to fill it with artificially blended colors.

One time I tried beating the whole game using just the hammer. It doesn't work for a few sections, but using it instead of the sword was so much fun.

Well I dobut that on that time Nintendo put that scene considering Fi for that, when this character were introduced years later in skyward sword.
The Master Sword has had a will or consciousness since Ocarina of Time. Skyward Sword just gave it a name.

The only thing that disappoints me from the Zelda franchise is some of the bosses. Take this one, for example. Insultingly easy.
I repeat, that's the only thing that I dislike. The games are awesome.
It's easy when you know what to do, just like any boss fight in any game. I think most of the enjoyment comes from the atmosphere and cinematics.
We're people really this entitled back then!?
